Who Should Be On The 2015 Deathlist?

OK, but I don't know the names of every member of every band who recorded a few decent songs. TBH the first thing that sprang to mind was a radio presenter, but I was probably thinking of Alan Partridge. To be fair this inclusion probably says more about me than anything else. XTC are hardly massive even in the UK and SWO was their only top 10 hit, and that only reached number 10, but I was trying to think of a musician who was very British who was part of a band along the lines of Wilko Johnson. I suppose I could have picked one of the members of Bananarama but I could be bothered to look them up.

Gets a mention on the cover of the Globe but focus seems to be on Mary Tyler Moore. Will she make it to the starting tape?

I was actually thinking of the Trade Union leader but I think that answers the question.

Who Should Be On The 2015 Deathlist?

These two statements don't seem to tally. I did have to look up JvdW but I presumed my total lack of interest in Rugby made that understandable. Even if you didn't know Wilko Johnson's name you would have heard of Dr Hook therefore I think his inclusion was more than justified combined with his high profile battle with cancer. Chris Woodhead is an odd one there have even been some UK comments on is he famous enough to be on here but we would happily inlcude Union Leaders and Churchmen so appointed high powered public officials should be fair game. To extend the Wilko analogy you may not know his name but you understand what Ofsted is right? If Steve of Canada ever does I have a little quiz for him. Ten thoroughly British types how many of them would you consider worthy of going on the list (ie you have heard of them) Sylvester McCoy David Steel Bill Morris John Craven Andy Partridge Deninis Skinner Patricia Routledge Tanni Grey-Thompson Nigel Lawson Kevin Kennedy Note even if you are not Steve of Canada you can comment on this list of Britishness. Re Woodhead, he probably has the same level of fame as Baroness Butler-Sloss (ie, the former boss of the child abuse scandal investigation who had to resign because her brother was one of the alleged suspects). As for that list, the main issue is almost none of them will die next year, except maybe Lawson, who is seriously ill. But then again, he has been for a year or two now, he's taken the Clive James route! Is Kevin Kennedy unwell, bar lifestyle? These were not meant to be Daethlist suggestions but examples of British types to guage how much crossover culture there is between UK and Commonwealth countries. As soon as I had put Sylvester McCoy on the list I realised I had made a mistake because of his role in the Hobbit movies. I should have gone for Colin Baker instead or one of the cast of Blake's 7. As for people who don't know who Andy Partridge is then compulsary listening to Senses Working Overtime should follow until they agree it is the best song ever.

Thanks. I will take up the challenge. My take on it all: 1. Yes, internationally famous. 2. No, I had to Google him but someone a bit older than me would probably be familiar with the name. 3. I Googled him and I still not sure which Bill Morris you mean... Is it the cricketer? https://en.wikipedia...sambiguation%29 4. No, his television shows aren't internationally known. 5. The only Partridge musicians I know of are the Partridge family. That's probably more a reflection on me though since I don't follow pop music that much. I have vaguely heard of XTC and I might even know a song or two if you played them for me. 6. Yes, internationally famous. 7. Yes, internationally famous. 8. No, I had never heard of her until I Googled her just now. Not known internationally. 9. Yes, internationally famous (mainly because of his daughter.) 10. No, I avoid soapies like the plague at the best of times and I don't think Coronation Street is even aired over here. Just for fun, I will throw it back at you with some Australian equivalents. See how many you know.... Again, these are all household names in Australia. 1. Okay, I am stumped to think of an Aussie equivalent to Sylvester McCoy.... Maybe Barry Humphries in terms of quirkiness and fame-level. 2. Cheryl Kernot 3. Arthur Morris 4. Kerry O'Brien 5. Red Symons 6. Gareth Evans 7. Ruth Cracknell (dead but a good equivalent to Routledge.) 8. Melissa Carlton 9. Peter Costello 10. Peter Rowsthorn. Good call without resorting to Google only Barry Humphries registers with me.

Feelgood. To be fair Steve from Canada is likely to be more familiar with Dr Hook than Dr Feelgood. Whoops!

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

Not sure if there is the opposite topic people who I thought were alive turn out to have been dead for years. In compiling my list of Britishness I was going to include Michael Staniforth who would be well known to a generation of British kids as Timothy Claypole in Rentaghost only to find out he died in 1987 aged 45. Whereas Jeffrey Segal (Mr Perkins) is still going strong aged 94.

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

Sensationalist nonsense. If someone took a photo of me whilst I was sleeping they could probably claim I was close to death. She doesn't look gaunt or wasted, no feeding tubes. Maybe she has been on the same diet as the lady standing next to her. She will probably die tomorrow now I have said that.

Who Should Be On The 2015 Deathlist?

I had to educate myself on Gough Whitlam and a number of other celebrities but I have assumed this was my ignorance and not their lack of significance. However I do not extend that to Wrestlers, Poker Players and Ice Hockey Players. The fact that I do not know who these are is only to my credit.

    The Deathlist Howto

You like posting in this thread more than BG likes bumping "Deathlist 2014" Still good point though, although there's a few errors there in the murky depths of those old pages. You probably shouldn't spend too long poking around in those dusty old things you'll give yourself chronic hackingcoughitis or summat. The reason I looked at those old DL versions was because I wanted to see which celebs have been picked most times. So far, those with 10+ appearences are... Clive Dunn: 16 Queen Mother: 14 Ronald Reagan: 14 Ronnie Biggs: 13 Bob Hope: 13 Kirk Douglas: 12 Eli Wallach: 12 Pope John Paul: 12 Fidel Castro: 11 Michael Foot: 11 Katharine Hepburn: 11 Barbara Cartland: 11 Kurt Waldheim: 11 Jake Lamotta: 10 General Pinochet: 10 John Mills: 10 Alistair Cooke: 10 Don Bradman: 10 And yes, I appear to post a lot in this thread. Sorry, I'll see to it that I tone it down a bit in the future. No need to apologise that is valuable data that you have collated. I don't think Kirk Douglas will beat Clive Dunn.

    British Science Fiction Series

    1. Terror is quite fun. Its got a lot of really daft lines which I shan't spoil, but yeah, Pip and Jane are actually quite fun if you are in the right mood. It's also got a surprisingly strong cast for that era - Honor Blackman, Denys Hawthorne, Malcolm Tierney and Bellingham/Michael Jayston too. 2. Unfortunately, she gets worse. 1. I have seen Time and the Rani. 2. I have seen Time and the Rani. 1. A good point, well made! 2. A good point, well made! Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice. I finished Trial last night. I can honestly say that Lynda Bellingham is probably the best person in it. So the Doctor really did commit genocide against the Vervoids and got away with it! I am now watching the "Trials and Tribulations" feature and it is more gripping than the story itself. Whilst all that politics was going on at the BBC, with Saward lashing out, Baker being fired, Grade trying to wrap the show up and so on, Jimmy Savile was fiddling kids down the corridor. What a screwed up organisation. And... "So, this big 14 part story. Surely we've worked out how we're going to tie it all up?" "Don't worry, I've set acclaimed writer Bob Holmes on it." "Thank god." (a day later) "Err, about acclaimed writer Bob Holmes?" "Yeah?" "He's dead." "Bugger." My opinion of Pip and Jane Baker has gone up. Only by a tiny half-notch but it has gone up all the same, having to deal with that situation and producing a Vervoids script that was, well, at least workable. They definitely needed to deal with the genocide issue though. Trials and Tribulations shows just how slapdash everything was though: JN-T thought Colin was an amusing raconteur at a wedding, so hires him on the basis of that alone. He then arbitarily decides he wants a redhead so hires Bonnie even though she is unproven as an actress and only begrudginly auditions her. Meanwhile, writers start dropping off the project so they have to hire Pip and Jane whilst bad blood is brewing between JN-T and Saward and there has been no budget increase despite everyone acknowledging how old and shoddy the show looks. Far out. As much as it galls me to defend Bonnie Langford I do not think we can say she was unproven as an actress when she had been in many things from a young age including Just William and The Wombles movie. OK its not Hamlet but there again neither is Trial of a Timelord.

    Comedians & Comedy Writers

Was the study simply "looking at Wikipedia"? Cos I think we all could have figured that out really and a lot of us were aware of it to some extent. And if they don't end up dying of drugs or drink they get some other shit luck like cancer, or they get heart attacks from a life of energetic stage antics Bill Hicks Eric Morcambe Peter Sellers Tommy Cooper Andy Kaufman John Belushi John Candy Graham Chapman Marty Feldman Mitch Hedberg Sid James Richard Pryor Peter Cook Rik Mayall ( ) Phil Hartman Robin Williams Stephen Fry (tried to off himself) Chris Farley Phyllis Diller Shit, even Benny Hill? Also, all of The Goodies are still alive. I see you didn't mention Dustin Gee

Who Should Be On The 2015 Deathlist?

Can I ask why Rodney Bewes? Has he been ill? When did you last see a picture of him. He has lost all his hair, his eyes are sunken and his skin is blotchy. He is a bit of a talisman for me. I am keeping him on until I am right.
