According to the media the German football team was on a 'sex ban' with no wives or girlfriends accompanying them in Brazil. This means any sex they were going to have was with each other. So does this a) foster a team spirit or make them run faster?

Anyone want to speculate on why a man in his mid fifties is retiring?

Authors Last A Long Time, But....
Bibliogryphon replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Nadine Gordimer dead at 90. 4/20 for my theme team. -
Twitter is reporting the death of Jan Shepheard art editor at 2000AD who designed the original Judge Dread logo.

His son gives a frank account of his fathers qualities and faults In a way what he describes is a bit like Gordon Brown only Denis seemed to have a bit more self awareness.

Played at a Jazz Festival over the weekend Reviewer obviously being nice but the general impression supports that in previous posts.

dead Sinéad O'Connor aka Shuhada' Davitt
Bibliogryphon replied to Spade_Cooley's topic in DeathList Forum
Sinead O' Connor to replace Bobby Womack at WOMAD festival and probably on a fair few deathlist teams . -
When he's sat down he looks like Christopher Lee.

Would that be old and doddery? What's up DO'C?

She was but how many are there now? One Olaf Pooley.

But a clear lead and enough points in the bank that you could top the magic 2014 with one more death by mid October. There's always next year for a player of your vision, Spade, but it'll be a whopping 2015 points for a win by then. Can we have bigger teams next year?

In terms of the DDP I respect that everyone should be able to choose within the rules and take the risk on the obit. I just won't be joining them. I would not want to see the likes of terminally ill bloggers on the main list. Other people in public life such as campaigners, journalists etc are fair game. As a starter for 10 I would ask what the opinion of picking someone like Sara Payne?

Janet Asimov (b 1926)

You may have guessed that I have probably seen and read more than my fair share of SF&F in all its genres. Do not consider the film Dune to give you an insight into the novel. I love the original book but could not watch the film. However the best 'space' film I would suggest would be Aliens - I watched it four times in one day once! I have checked and GRRM does not have any offspring but Isaac Asimov has a much younger second wife who appeared to sell his name to the highest bidder after he died.

Surely just for that, this guy has to go on the front page in 2015? I was already thinking about him a few days ago before he even said this. LULZ! TBQFH Bilbo-griffin, I think they were just trying to drop a hint to him - i.e. "stop stuffing your fat fucking face like a Scottish Halibut who's spending the first day after the end of Ramadan at an all-you-can-eat, deep-fried-everything restaurant/buffet in Glasgow, because we want you to be able to finish the sodding books!" If they'd just come out and said that maybe he would have been forced to respect them for it and change his habits. Yeah and the funniest thing is they'll probably tell them the books they come up with were actually his work, and he "just managed to finish them before he died!" If he has children I am sure they will do the best to continue his legacy (squeeze as much money as possible out of his name) in the same way as Brian Herbert did for his father Frank and Christopher Tolkien is doing. I dunno if he does and can't be arsed to look it up on Pikiwedia. And I think they'll definitely go with the "he just managed to finish them!" route. And the best part is the fans will believe it. Brian Herbert used the idea that Frank had planned out a whole new series of Dune books that he was just about to start writing but considering that after this he has produced almost double the number that Frank managed in a 20 years period suggests he really is milking it. Many fans were not taken in though because of the six books published during Frank's life time there is evidence of fatigue. I gave up after God Emperor of Dune (#4) and would advise any interested reader to give up after Children of Dune (#3).

For those who play the long game it is useful to note that Baroness Butler-Sloss who has been appointed to run the enquiry into the handling of child-abuse allegations is close to her 81st birthday. Whilst currently in robust health she is worth pencilling into any wide ranging databases of people you might want to think about in five years time.

Surely just for that, this guy has to go on the front page in 2015? I was already thinking about him a few days ago before he even said this. I think this is what distinguishes this site from others. Here we debate candidates for death in a dignified almost academic fashion but going on a fan forum where the writer frequents and saying (from what could be considered a selfish approach) "You're not going to croak before you finish that are you?" is a bit rude. I think he would be a legitimate DDP pick and I would consider him for my writers theme team but I wouldn't seek his approval first. The fans need not be worried though his publisher is probably stockpiling monkeys and typewriters as we speak.

Not sure if this is the right place to post but ill-conceived brand names sometimes bother me. Superdry - great if it is for outdoor clothing but when it ends up on the waistband of your pants my first thought is of incontinence products. Seriously guys?

What's Your Favorite DDP Team?
Bibliogryphon replied to InquilineKea's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I do like "One more hit than me" theme team - not going to win anything but great nostalgia -
Seem to be on the zeitgeist with this apparently you can get t-shirts with "Sack Owen Patterson" on them.

Apparently recording a new video message that will be released on his 96th Birthday (Nov 7). Either all those prayers worked, he wasn't as ill as all that anyway or he is an optimist? This may be a cover and he is recording something that will be shown when he dies.

Is the other update of a different sort we've been waiting for the last week? Hurry up, me lad. Are we finally sponsoring Fort William Football Club? Are you giving up the ghost-logging? Are we being shut-down? Is it a donation-drive? Have the old bill shut us down? Sorry for the mindless speculation, I crawl back in my cave. Re: getting shut down.... probably not! However if the trend of people stuffing their teams with young cancer (and other similarly horrible illnesses) victims (who weren't even remotely famous before they got told it was terminal) continues and grows, and next year half the top forty picks consists of that said-type of person, maybe that day won't be as far off as you might think? I mean seriously. Especially female, UK-based ones - they're the ones that are really asking for trouble from certain..... outrage-based outlets which most DLers and DDPers generally tend to despise. Do I really have to spell it out any more? Just a thought, guys (and girls...), maybe use your brains a bit next time? This is one thing I am going to agree with Dr Z on. I do not like the Terminally Ill "ordinary person" picks. It raises alsorts of questions. Although, there is an argument that if they are using social media to express their thoughts then they are courting publicity and could be considered fair game whereas a lot of celebs close down completely and you don't know anything until they are dead (Lewis Collins for example). I for one will not be seeking out the Kate Grangers of the future I will stick to my obscure notion of celebrity.

OK Lets talk numbers. Today is worth 175 points. Since one week ago our leader Death Impends needs 3 deaths to make the total. That will go up to 4 at the end of September. He has Sam Simon, he has Billy Graham and he has the oldest woman in the world. Come on he can do this. I however need nine deaths or eight and Liz Dawn.
