Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Going Underground, you've been around for years, When are you going to get an avatar? As for Herbert, RIP and all that, but I thought the few works of his which I trudged through in my youth were truly execrable. 'The Fog' stands out as a particularly poor example of horror writing, livened only by the hilariously gratuitous lesbian scene. I read this as a thirteen year old and still remember the bit about the Vicar pissing over his congregation. Can't remember much about the rest of it though. -
Why? Because none of his co-stars will be able to say what a wonderful chap he was when he does die.

No, the actual joke is that Miranda ripped off a format, tweaked it here and there and sold it as her own brilliant idea. Im sure, once Valerie Harper has gone, nobody will ever be reminded that " Miranda" is a fucking piss poor Rhoda. PS: Valerie Harper was fuggin fit too unlike Miranda Hart or summat. I think Miranda Hart is quite funny.

Such a shame he died before he got the chance to write a second joke. Whaddya mean? There was his chicken impression... Ah well, they can't all be Peter Cook can they? Well he can now, because he's dead... The only thing now that is doing a chicken impression is horsemeat.

Apparently President Ahmadinejad has been criticised by some Iranian clerics for committing the sin of comforting Hugo Chavez's mother at the funeral.

I think that is the same writer but I suspect that if wiki can't even get a DOB for her, chances are obit will not be forthcoming. -

The discussion above about books that were read at school reminded me of a book I used to own (I may still but it is proabably buried in my loft) called Touch and Go by Josephine Poole. It was adapted from a BBC TV series which has Aubrey Morris in it. I can't find any information on Josephine Poole as to whether she is still alive or not. In a similer vein I can't find a birthdate for P J Hammond of Sapphire and Steel fame. Any help? -
I am interested in knowing what the non-British posters think of the selection of names on the 2013 Deathlist. Are all of the names familiar or do you consider them too parochial? There are plenty of global significance but I have been sent scurrying to Wiki by some mid-Atlantic picks (the only current one I would put in the category is Al Molinaro) Are there other Deathlists in other countries or is the best site in all the world? I think the current list is very good and I look forward to how the year unfolds.

She was still active whenever she was first picked on DDP Yes a few entries could do with updating as the Queen is described as not a popular pick but she must be heading for the drop forty in the next two years. There's well over 3000 names chosen, lots of whom are new this year. Perhaps someone will volunteer to go through them and identify which need updating, write the updates and edit the site. In the meantime, perhaps the rest of us should just shut up bitching. No bitching was intended. I realise the enormity of the task and we are all grateful to TMIB for all his hard work. The incongruity of the description with the then long list of picks rather made me smile.

Wow the people posting on that site make us look like sane and reasonable individuals. We have Guinea Pigs but they have never been shoved in a wool tube.

But still remembers to keep breathing and annoying everyone who has picked him for 2013 Deathlists

Indeed. In fact there are currently 57 former presidents and prime ministers over the age of 90 as you can see here http://en.wikipedia....g_state_leaders I've been keeping an eye on them all.Only one has died this year so far Very interesting list. I am a bit concerned that most of the names on the list that are familiar are only so because I have read them on this site. May be teachers of A level politics should get each of their students to compile a statesman Deathlist and offer a prize so it would encourage them to do Research.

Matthew Waterhouse's Blue Box Boy seemed to make some allegations about senior DW directors. I haven't read this but picked this up from the coverage in the DW press.

A few years back SFX magazine listed the 100 worst things in Science Fiction and dear old Bonnie was appointed as the worst thing for her role as Mel in Doctor Who.

Another list that no-one asked for: Living Winners of the Carnegie Medal The Carnegie medal is awarded for outstanding Children's books whether fiction or non-fiction. It was won by C S Lewis's The Last Battle in 1956 and Neil Gaiman said winning the prize was very important to him. No-one has won the prize three times although seven authors have won it twice. I have listed the authors in order of thier first win. Pauline Clarke (b.1921) Won in 1962 Sheena Porter (b.1935) Alan Garner (b.1934) Rosemary Harris (b.1923) K.M Peyton (b.1929) Richard Adams (b.1920) Penelope Lively (b.1933) Gene Kemp (b.1926) Peter Dickinson (b.1927) Kevin Crossley-Holland (b.1941) Berlie Doherty (b.1943) Susan Price (b.1955) Geraldine McCraughrean (b.1951) Anne Fine (b.1947) Gillian Cross (b.1945) Robert Swindells (b.1939) Theresa Breslin (??) Philip Pullman (b.1946) Melvin Burgess (b.1954) Tim Bowler (b.1953) David Almond (b.1951) Aidan Chambers (b.1934) Won in 1999 I have only added those winner before 2000 but one post 2000 winner Siobhan Dowd was already dead when she won. -
Elspet Grey was discussed on The Last Word (01 March). They interviewed Lord Rix and Honor Blackman. I know voices can be deceptive but Honor Blackman sounded quite frail.

OK passed the famous test. Didn't recognise the name but when I saw what she had been in makes her a good choice. -
No News Monday! This got way too much coverage. Though did wonder how she communicated her lack of well being "Philip, One would not go in there for a good while"
-
I went for Molinaro. Though it was a tough choice.
