I think the thing about Wogan is that he was part of the cultural furniture. If Bowie was a precious ornament Wogan was your really comfy armchair.

Who Do You Think Will Win The Democrat And Republican Nominations?
Bibliogryphon replied to Bibliogryphon's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
If Trump puts of the Republican leaning middle voters and Sanders puts off the left leaning middle voters isn't there the potential room for an independent free thinking (nice guy) candidate. President Gates anyone? -
"Thou shalt not eat the fruit of the carrot tree" Very sad. I liked him he played Johnny Maxwell's Grandfather in the TV adaptation of Terry Pratchet's Johnny and the Dead.

As we are going by US time I still have a few hours to get my prediction correct. Will check in when I land to see if it came up,

Currently in the business lounge at Birmingham airport about to board a flight to Delhi for a business trip. Never been to India before. Not really looking forward to it. -
I hate to be pedantic (he lied) but the reality is that Switch and Sir Creep are effectively tied in first place because one more hit within the next two months will end it for either of you. The advantage Sir C has only really comes into play if you have the same pick that dies (effectively the goal difference scenario). I however only have a small number of points and will not be troubling the leader board.

Who Do You Think Will Win The Democrat And Republican Nominations?
Bibliogryphon replied to Bibliogryphon's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The BBC did quite a good overview of the 11 candidates in the Republican race. Iowa and New Hampshire will probably see off up to 5 of these and it then when we will see whether the polls can match the votes on the ground. A lot will depend on whether Democrats who elect to vote in the Republican primary think Trump offers a more beatable opponent for Hillary than anyone else. -
Baroness Shirley Williams is stepping down from the House of Lords. Today is her final speech in a debate. Will she see a surge in popularity in these parts in 2017?

So Abe Vigoda checks in just to give us a hit at the right time if we have a linear hit rate and we want to get 14 hits. Last year we had to wait till Feb to get the first hit so we can't complain at the moment.

Henry Blofeld was on Museum of Curiosities on R4 Monday night and spoke about his heart bypass operation and how he almost died. One to keep an eye on. -
Just checking we are in a euphemism free zone. Otherwise I would have to vigorously deny it.

she just has to last till march 11, 2019 to beat Bess Truman and become the longest lived first lady ever. Who thinks she'll make it?Heck no. I doubt she'll be alive a year from now, let alone three. You say that but at the 2012 presidential election I was suggesting that Nancy could die to swing some sympathy votes for Mitt Romney and here we are just starting the cycle again.

and here we were thinking Hilary was going to be the first female president.....

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?
Bibliogryphon replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Been watching Yonderland series 2. Very funny, very silly. Worth watching. -
I'm ansolutely certain that there will still be vets surviving beyond 2027. The war ended in 1945, so the youngest vets would be born around 1929, and would "only" be 98 at that time., which is younger than several DP candidates.I may be a bit optimistic, but IMO a reasonable estimate would be 2042-2044. WWI ended 26 years before WWII, and 2011+26=2037, but I think it is reasonable to expect that medical advances and greater number of WWII combatants will add a few years to that. My Dad was born in 1929. He did not see active service during the war but did his National Service immediately in the post war period. I think there may be some left after 2029.

I get 19 points for Sheila Sim. Gets me off the mark.
-
Thanks, sorted, Toast is up to 699 points And at least I have got some points on the board before it is all done and dusted.

If true, could be to get the family mourning out of the way for Sheila Sim's sake before the press announce it? With her health, and losing her husband and brother in 3 months, I doubt she'll be about in twelve months time. Dead is where she'll be: https://www.thestage.co.uk/news/2016/sheila-sim-widow-of-richard-attenborough-dies-at-93/ Sheila Sim dead at 93 - sure she's DDP fodder too. Check your deadpools too. Awaiting QO. Edit: Mirror obliges: http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/richard-attenboroughs-widow-sheila-sim-7213809 Confusingly this has brought me points in both the Deathrace and The Hare's Deadpool.

With my estimated 8 points for George Weidenfeld I might get as high as joint 13th. Still a way off the leaders.
