    Fidel Castro

Oh, how naïve you Westerners can get. Stand down to have free elections... and have a puppet regime installed by the CIA that's just as oppressive, ugly and undemocratic. You could've noticed them everywhere in Latin America from Pinochet's Chile to the Contras in Nicaragua. It might be hard to justify his anti-American stance when you examine his actions through your biassed 21st century prespective, but the Cold War was a bit different. At that time, the Americans clearly preferred any loyal and anti-communist dictator to any left-leaning democrat (note that not all of these were hardline Stalinist commies). Of course, Castro was no saint, but nor was Nixon or Kissinger, and you have to analyze their behaviour in a Cold War context in order to make sense of what they did to Latin American peoples. Pinochet wasn't elected by the people Nixon was. This is the exact type of shite we here from modern day anarchists and supporters of 'Momentum' who all want to overthrown 'corrupt' Government and give the power back to the people even though we all know, if successful, they wont. So Castro was saving his people from the will and control of the US? Maybe he was but who the f**k told him that it was his decision and his alone to decide the fate of Cuba? Not the people. That's what matters, both of you, not once have mentioned them, you have spouted on about 'Cuba' the Cold war, the CIA and everything else that leads to your conclusions that Castro was the better, logical or enevitable choice to lead that Island until he died. Im saying he wasn't, Im saying that humans have the right to make choices about who governs them. Its not an assumption of their naivety that they may only be choosing between puppet leaders and or corrupt administrations, effing hell British and American Politics is awash with funny handshakes, brown envelopes and the stench of corruption BUT we the people are still able to choose which corrupt bastards run the country. That's the difference, that's the detail. Before Castro no democracy. After Castro no democracy + hospitals. In theory, benevolent dictatorships could work for the greater good of a nation, but I think that Castro could have done a much better job being an enlightened despot than he did. The truth is that in practice, people who seek (and gain) absolute power tend to have traits such as megalomania, paranoia and greed. Castro having been better than his predecessor Batista might be correct, but surely the Cuban people deserved to have the bar set higher up than "better than Batista"?

    Ask A Deathlister

I personally prefer outdoor exercising to indoor, so I would recommend exploring your environmental options. Do you live near a park or forest? Or do you live in a city area with limited space for pedestrians? I happen to live really close to a forest (we have lots of them here) as well as a lake (lots of them too) so I try to take the time to jog/run there for maybe 3-4 times per week. Generally, the main obstacle is finding the motivation to stay physically active. In my case, the cold and the snow tends to lower the motivation. Just look at some pictures I took a few weeks ago. Then there are the occasional duck crowds, but they're not so bad once you get to know 'em. So, it is tempting sometimes not to run in this type of climate, but I still do it. In your case, Deathray, I would suggest the perhaps cliche answer that you have to take baby steps in the beginning. Gradually, your body will become more and more accustomed to physical activity. If you do too much at once, your whole system will interpret it as something unwanted and you might relapse quicker. To tie in this with deathpooling, you could pretend that each excessant pound/kilo is an entry in a deathpool. So, if you wanna lose 20 pounds in total (just an example), you could cross off each lost pound like we do in our signatures. "5 down, 15 to go". Or summat.

Who Should Be On The 2017 Deathlist?

Good job presenting her... except that this is actually going to be the 31st anniversary of deathlist, not the 30th. True, but if we turn back the clock exactly thirty years, we will end up in November 1986, which is right before the first Death List was launched.

Who Should Be On The 2017 Deathlist?

I would like to nominate the American actress Dyan Cannon for the following reasons: 1. The event that inspired the birth of the Death List was Cary Grant's death. In 2017, we will celebrate the deathpool's 30th birthday. So, it would be a neat idea to include someone associated with Cary as a way to honour him on this special anniversary. Edited to add: She was his fourth wife. 2. Dyan may not exactly be a household name, but she did get three Academy Awards nominations throughout her career so she's not an obscure actress. 3. There are no reported health issues, but I think we could spare one spot on the list for one "symbolic" entry (see 1st point). Also, at age 79, she's no spring chicken! 4. Since Magere's mysterious disappearence, the only administrator who, well administrates, this forum is Paul Bearer. Including Dyan would also be a way to honour him for his commitment. How? Well, one of Dyan's Oscar nominations was for a 1978 movie called Heaven Can Wait. And as we know, that was Paul's previous account name.

      Deathray

I think if I typed in my geordie dialect you might well struggle with that, haha. Well that my friend is another can of worms entirely. I've seen the first 13 episodes and the Granada+ edits of April 1976 to Feb 1980, unfortunately that is all I had access to before the great copyright takedown arrived wiping YouTube of hundreds, if not more than a few thousand, old episodes that had been added to the site. I'm hoping at some point Coronation Street will be released to an online strea...

ming site in full to watch at my leisure, unfortunately that seems unlikely. Thankfully there is Corriepedia which has nine thousand episode guides, a fair chunk of which I've read.

Geordie? So you're from Northern England then. I have noticed that a lot of members seem to be living up there. The broadcasting company could probably make a fortune out of a complete DVD box for all seasons. Be careful about those "wiki" sites, though. Everyone can edit them and maybe insert some false plots here and there, lol.

    Nazi of SS

The only article I can find about him online is from the Danish newspaper BT on May 11, 2016. After a doing a little digging, I have managed to find out when he was born (June 18, 1924) and at which adress he lives. He is still married, with his wife being around 5 years younger. Already on the list here under Rasmussen: https://forums.deathlist.net/topic/607-nazi-of-ss/?p=254305 Ok, so #6 and #7 on the Simon Wiesenthal list are the same person?

    Nazi of SS

I just noticed that the Simon Wiesenthal Center list "Nazi War Criminals Slated for Possible Prosecution in 2016" includes a Danish man named Aksel Andersen who currently resides in Sweden. It says the following: The only article I can find about him online is from the Danish newspaper BT on May 11, 2016. After a doing a little digging, I have managed to find out when he was born (June 18, 1924) and at which adress he lives. He is still married, with his wife being around 5 years younger.

    Donald J Trump

Donald Trump wins president... Cubs win World Series... Brexit happened... David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, and Gene Wilder dies... man. 2016 really is unpredictable ...Next thing you know, the Nobel Prize in Literature will go to an individual who's not even an author. ...Oh wait...
  12. It is during moments like this that I realize how much I love my own country. A politician with Donald Trump's personality would not be popular AT ALL with the majority of the Swedish people. It is a shame to witness what appears to be an intellectual and humanitarian regression in United States. Just think about it, the most important man in the country is someone who has spewed bigoted, misogynist, borderline-pedophilic and incestuous comments for the past 1.5 years. It is everything that every modern, progressive human being SHOULD oppose in 2016. Effing hell, America...

    Kirk Douglas

I think that he, overall, doesn't look that bad. Fairly stable, I would say. I will concede that he is probably less mobile than, say, in the 2011 Oscars. But there are mostly positive signs: 1. The fact that he even attended means that he was/is not terminal at a hospice care, bedridden or anything. 2. He still has his cognitive facilities intact, meaning that he is aware of his surroundings and doesn't look disoriented or confussed. 3. At one point in the clip, he smiles/laughs at something his son says. Happiness is often correlated with good physical health (not always, of course...) 4. His impaired speech, which he has had for two decades now, combined with the sheer agedness of his face, makes us underestimate his overall strength. This is because we draw conclusions based on how our senses react (eyes and hearing, in this case) to different things. His actual internal physical health (immune system, cardiovascular system, etc.) is anyone's guess because he is never reported as going to hospital for major illnesses. 5. As for celebrating his 100th birthday two months in advance, I think one possible explanation is that humans tend to be overly eager and impatient if they look forward to something really much. Particularly when it comes to huge movie stars who thrive on idolation and attention.

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2017

About six days ago, Swedish football legend Kurt Hamrin (b. 1934) suffered from a stroke in Florence. He was reported as being able to walk but could not move his arms. According to his wife Marianne, he should be able to recover and return home from the hospital in two weeks (meaning that circa one week remains as of today). His notability is undisputable due to his performances in Serie A and the World Cup, but he would "only" be worth 6 points on DDP for the coming eight years.

Hahah, now that you mention it, it does look that way...Well, I got the pic from Wikipedia so it is probably him in his entirety! Y'know, people always say the rising sea levels are the biggest concerns regarding Nauru's future, but this is one of the few state of heads in the world capable of actually eating the nation he's governing.

Unsurprisingly, the current president of Nauru, Baron Waqa, is obese. He was born in the last day of 1959, meaning he's worth a total of 9 points on the DDP. The recent scandals with the Nauru Files probably adds even more stress to his lifestyle. He should be obitable without a doubt. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/aug/10/the-nauru-files-2000-leaked-reports-reveal-scale-of-abuse-of-children-in-australian-offshore-detention
