and why it's so different from my own. Maybe its an age thing

I'd hazard in this instance not age related. I'd be willing to bet there's not that much in it.

You've both put enough on here for me to have a reasonable idea.

I think I'm somewhere similar in age, and I also seem to differ from a lot of other people.

Including you guys sometimes. Just different strokes for different folks probably.

My mum has mused about voting Liberal. She's engaged but passive. Pretty sure she voted for Boris in 2019. Almost certainly voted for Brexit. But she's easily led. Anyway, she's not enamoured with Starmer, doesn't like Sunak and the other night said, unprompted, "I might vote Lib Dem". I don't mind too much, our seat is as safe Labour as they come, been Labour since at least 1945. Might be a Gaza protest vote, but can't see it letting the Tories, or anybody else, in. Davey has had a very good campaign. Safe pair of hands in the Paddy Ashdown style. Wonder if Daisy Cooper will be able to build on his progress in the future.

To be honest, since I'm interested in policies rather than rhetoric I'd happily vote for Lib Dems where I am or in fact it appears according to that quiz - binface.

However locally is a swing seat between Labour / Tories so my hands are tied if I want shot of the Tories.

I'm not as hopeful as many here that labour will deliver nirvana or even what we want in basic terms (see post above about paying for it), but under first past the post I can't vote any other way.

IIRC Clorox comprehensively proved you wrong on this point in the What Are You Listening To thread.

Not exactly "comprehensively", but in fairness despite my promises to the contrary I've still not done the work to listen to the stuff he took the time to point out. My bad.

I've got a fair few 'younger generation' friends with cars that I get lifts to drinking holes in - and the stuff I'm subjected to, ugh....Though that's not scientific either since maybe I just have friends with terrible (to my ear) tastes.

Are you denying 'there's a lot of rap' about though? Because I hear a lot.

Anyway, whatever, I downvoted it. Deal with it. :P

Come off it. The Sugarhill Gang are one of rap's founding fathers. Poor choice to kill them off while cheesy shit like the current bottom three stay on.

I will not come off it, mostly because rightly or wrongly, I bloody hate rap. with a passion.

And don't blame me alone, it's not like I'm the only one downvoted it.

This may or may not be true but Lene Lovich was better.

Yes, yes indeed it was. And I don't much like that track either :P

Edit. Oh and you'll notice I'm not voting at all on 2010 stuff. It wouldn't be right (at least until I did the work to listen to them all).

So much today is rap, or covers that 'rap things up' that I genuinely cant be arsed.

The John whatsisface track is pretty much the only one of those i know, and that because of the video.

Further edit: I detest cheesy stuff as well, so there's that. So there.

I do watch things such as this.

There should be somebody asking both of these parties - as forcefully as  "But did you threaten to overrule him?" - but replaced with "Where is the money coming from?"

Apologies for mentioning this again, but it's a way of measuring who the Tories traditionally think themselves to be against what they are currently.

    Interesting times, eh?

No need to apologise that I can see. The revolving door isn't mentioned nearly enough by most politicians of any flavour.

    *sorry yes, a spieling lame.

Failing that, one big long episode of the Weakest Link.

    I'd vote for that.

My problem with the whole debate thing is it probably favours those with a knack for public speaking and quick responses whether those are due to masses of pre-prepared answers or merely being quick-witted on the fly.

It doesn't tell us who has the better policies we are seeking.

Those are mostly known beforehand anyway and are in my opinion better delievered in a format we can pore over and come to our own conclusions.

To be fair the Tories have had quite a recent history of expecting teachers to fill in the gaps in various policies. Adding a bit more to their workload is part of their philosophy.

If only there were any teachers in this place who fancied weighing in on that (heh, I'm not namechecking you, though it was close but ultmately decided "no-fair")

They will be a demand by parents for phone boxes to come back if school kids are ordered to walk to school without phones

Yeah right dump it on the teachers, they don't have anything better to do.

It sounds like the Goverment wants phones without the ability to unlock anything.

Can you point me to a definitive source that that is the case? You know, a bit beyond 'it sounds like', I know I'm being nit-picky here but well, you have previous for not differentiating between, 'this is the case' and 'I think'.

A widespread production of phones with the ability of the 1990’s.

The above aside, and if indeed it is the case, where's the problem? There's enough of a market if all the kids currently with phones have to have them replaced - for companies to make them if legislated.

6 minutes ago, The Old Crem said:

And school kids walking to school without a phone

I did, and there were no phone boxes on the route. (yes yes I know, 'back when I were a lad' and all that).

7 minutes ago, The Old Crem said:

but without the phone box availability of the 1990’s.

Whatever else happens that's not coming back.

Not if enough parents decide to break the law so it’s not financially viable. (I’m not sure how it could be properly enforced in terms of parents not buying ones for their kids and registering it as their phone.)

The companies don't have to as such, just make such facilities as the law denies unavailable via software locks then the legal onus is on the parent.

The makers won't care as they will cost the same and they make the same profit. The parents will pay the same as they do currently.

I'm no smartphone guru, but the cheap ones probably cost about the same to manufacture as a non-smart one anyway today.

If a non-smart one is still cheaper to make and the numbers were sufficient, they'd make them.

Whether all that is enforcible in practice is another matter. Over-stretched police hunting down teens with 'unlocked' phones and taking the time to prosecute the parents over them seems to me to just add to an existing problem of expending the limited resources in the wrong place.
