There's another user hereabouts who would just love to have your support in this matter and perhaps the chance to share the facepalms the rest of us dole out regarding it.

Mind I've not been on a lot for some of that time so maybe you guys are already corresponding.

The worst thing is that if you've listened to it on Youtube, the algorithm thinks you're a fan and keeps trying to feed you more of it.

Use a different browser with no login (or a different account if it won't let you view with no account).

I do for viewing some subject that I don't want to be inundated with forever, i.e. recently looking at cars as I was thinking of replacing mine.

You could do this on the one browser but it requires all that tedious logging in and out. I just use chrome/firefox (or even Edge) on a pc, pretty sure you can do the same on a phone. Then it's just a click.

Had no idea what your first bit referred to having not seen the film - saw it last night. Enjoyed it very much, a melancholy little tale though. Agree, must have been a contact lens, I was trying to wrack my brains wondering if I'd never noticed that Paul Giamatti had such a severe lazy eye. My friend confirmed not.

I saw Downsizing at the cinema a few years ago - was not very impressed. It looked good from the trailer but fell somewhat flat. This was much better. Not seen the other 2, although I am aware of Election.

Oh it was deliberately cryptic, a poor habit of mine, my apologies. I've now also watched Election.

My view? Don't rush, The Holdovers is the best of them by a margin and the only one I'd rewatch at some point.

  4. There's a lot of commentary now kicking around that it's a pity it takes a docudrama to get this much attention and the message over to people. However I was the same i.e. not really sufficiently shocked until I watched this. Maybe part of the issue is the directive to be factual and provide 'balance' that news is beholden to and drama is not? I'm unsure.

Vennels managed to hand her gong back but, shock, not the 2.2M in bonuses she received over her period in charge. https://www.theguardian.com/business/nils-pratley-on-finance/2024/jan/10/now-claw-back-vennellss-bonuses-from-the-post-office-the-rules-allow-it.

Abhor it, for the same reasons, so..

    ..Never going to happen.

I'll spend the money on increasingly bigger TV sets at increasing definition, let others do the plane thing and view the results.

Also, greener (not sure exactly how big a tv over what period produces the same carbon as one seat on a plane for 24k miles but suspect it'd be Wembley Stadium replay sized 24/7 for a year before it outpaces the jet. If then).

    The Holdovers

My money is on some kind of contact lens. No way anybody is acting that.

Not that I could actually see it even though I was looking quite hard for it.

Enjoyed the film though and even went back and found a few previous Alexander Payne films since I'd not heard of him.

Sadly I thought less of Downsizing as an opportunity largely missed and found Sideways too formulaic and embarrassing*, still nevermind I've got Election yet to go.

Saltburn I'm undecided on whether to invest the time yet or not.

*I must be one of the few people on planet earth that doesn't find other people's embarrassing situations uproariously amusing, I'm afraid I just cringe which isn't something I want to pay to do. Shrug.

If only she had driven the car

Or in fact have been wearing a seatbelt which you'd have thought as a race driver she'd be pretty used to and aware of the reasons for doing so.

Then she'd not have been 'ejected from the vehicle' - It doesn't of course say she wasn't wearing one - but it takes a pretty weird set of circumstances to be thrown out if you are.

  8.  Ah well, you should've done the magic resist thing. Breton 25%.....Some quest from Riften priestess all about love 10%, Alchemy enhanced enchanted garb and so on and you're hitting the 85% magic resist cap before you meet an ancient level dragon or have ebony anything pretty much. Stand there and laugh at them then.

I've even done it without doing the watchtower thing out of  Whiterun in the first place because that prevents all those annoying random dragon attacks completely until you want them (I didn't care about dying, but the townsfolk kept getting slaughtered and some with quests aren't marked essential)

Still, the whole thing is NOT to fall foul of the meme that a stealthy archer is overpowered and credit for that   :)

Anyway, heh, you can tell I played a bit of that game.

I’m on a deathlist forum. I am in a real life in person deathlist league where we draft celebs like fantasy football. To suggest I am concerned about speaking ill of the dead is actually impressively ignorant.

My only point is that you seemingly are not depressed. You don’t know what it is like to be severely depressed. It is a genuine mental illness but you have taken the stand that they should be in a rational enough state of mind to simply get help, as if it is that simple.

There's so much wrong with this statement I barely know where to start.

    I'll precis it as: -

    I can't know you haven't said. You can't know, I haven't said.

  10. And I can't stand to see people do that collective outpouring of grief thing over some rather than others as if there were a select few for whom it is clearly far worse than others simply because they wore their grief on their sleeve so to speak. The inconsistency annoys me. Everyone matters.

I was the same about the 'nation mourns' epidemic for Diana.

What an incredibly ignorant frame of mind. May you always be so blessed that you never have to come to terms with how completely real and dangerous mental illness and depression can be.

The two things are not mutually exclusive. Thus it's not ignorant.

Calling something what it can sometimes be doesn't lessen any empathy one might feel for that or any other case. It's always sad.

It's far easier to jump on the empathy bandwagon or the 'never speak ill of the dead' trope than to dare to say anything remotely to the contrary.

You and others are simply saying narcissism can play no part at all in suicide or mental health issues. I disagree that's all.

Just saying to some of ye calling Sinead a narcissist. What if it comes out that her death was natural causes?

Then those including me who have called it as such will be wrong about this particular case.

Edit: A very brief google brought up this. You can decry that as wrong if you so choose and I have no idea of the veracity or accuracy of 'psychology today' in particular, but clearly there are people better qualified than I who say there's a link.
