Couldn't go chasing Lisa even if I wanted to, I'd have to go digging these days. I did push for the TC idea a few years ago, but not only did it not catch on, I realise it sounded even more stupid than TLC. Plus a lot more difficult to explain! Throwing "TC? It's from my initials, TLC, but in honour of Lisa Left Eye Lopes I dropped the L and now I'm Top Cat" into any conversation is unwise, and I suspect, a teeny bit uncool.

Guests, A Deathlist Enhancement, Or Detriment?
TLC replied to Tempus Fugit's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
After seeing the Joe Longthorne thread I had to vote yes. -
Erm, TLC is a nickname of mine, hence the login name. Unfortunately they are my real-life initials; it's not a homage to all of the TLC I give the 'laydeez' , and certainly not as a tribute to Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, may she rest in peace. In fact, the nickname pretty much started when TLC became big in the UK, as people gradually put two and two together. A fan-f***ing-tastic time that was for me, especially as I was a student then, and we all know how wild and ker-razy and hilarious they can be.... I actually think the funniest 'gag' anyone managed was 'hey, don't go chasing waterfalls now!' Comedy gold, I think you'll agree. Especially the millionth time you hear it, it just gets funnier with each re-telling.

Blimey, who'd have thought Joe Longthorne discussions would produce such vitriol and controversy? I'm glad somebody added to this thread recently or else I might have missed it! As far as I remember, he was on the TV quite a lot when I was a kid, doing spectacular song/impression combinations that were pretty accurate impression wise, although memory fades with time. I thought Jim Davidson was funny when I was a kid, before I grew up and realised he wasn't actually a comedian. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I would go to see Mr Longthorne even if you paid for my ticket and my own personal jet pack to get there, but each to their own etc. To me, he's talented in the same way that the Lighthouse Family are 'talented'. Just because they can play their instruments fairly well and sing in tune, doesn't mean by default that you have to appreciate them...... I do love the ranters, who despite having some spectacular grammatical issues when making their heartfelt posts, always seem to unerringly hit upon the same themes: - Theme 1. get offended by people talking flippantly about death. Theme 2. defend their favoured pop star/actor/dictator by listing all of the success they've had, especially compared to members of this site saying unpleasant things about them. Answer 1. It's a deathlist site. Wanting people to die is generally not because you want real physical harm to come to them (there are exceptions of course, especially amongst dictators) but because the game is pretty pointless otherwise. No-one is actually hiring hit men to help, although Clint Eastwood may disagree there. Answer 2. For the love of Brian Cant, everybody has their favourite actors etc., and ones they don't like. Pointing out to me that Ace of Base or other similar pap sold millions of records won't suddenly make me say 'my god, they must be good then!' Equating popular and good, that way madness lies. For the record, I personally think Joe Longthorne is a C minus, but I don't actually want him to die. People have made wagers on people likely to die anyway (he has had cancer on and off for years), so you're bound to get people saying 'when is he going to go, he's long overdue' and the like. My word, I've just committed a massive rant, as much as I tried to make a point to it. Apologies all, I do realise it will solve precisely nothing. The magic of Joe is still in the air, evidently.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006
TLC replied to Tuber Mirum's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Me too, I have done the online equivalent of being in the kitchen at the party and completely missing the cake being presented, and the accompanying rousing chorus of 'happy birthday to you'... So I'll do it now, belatedly. Whether you like it or not. Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Lady Diiiiiiiiiie, Happy birthdaaaaaay tooooooo yooooooou!!!!!! Hope that's not overkill; if it's any consolation my birthday greeting is closer to your actual birthday than I manage with most of my own family.... clearly a slow day at work today.... -
As I'm sure you well know, the song is entitled Stainsby Girls, which is pretty funny in itself. I wonder if Mr Rea can be contacted to confirm which stains (and by what girls) he's droning on about in that special gravelly voice of his... As the great Mr A. Partridge once said in an imaginary conversation with Chris Rea, "Alright Chris!", "Hello Alan I didn’t know you’d moved in", "Yeah, just moved in, last week. I’m having a barbecue, fancy coming over?", "I’d love to! Do you mind if I bring my guitar?", "I’d rather you didn’t, it’s not that kind of area." "Do you like Mini Kiev’s?", "I love them! But my wife’s vegetarian", "Doesn’t matter. She can have fish", [gradually getting irritated] "No she won’t eat that either", "Oh forget it!". You people.

I'm a diabetic chain-smoker; if you ever check out the list of things I'm more likely to die of than the average person you might be surprised I managed to finish this post before keeling over....

A very suitable name for them too. Perhaps they could invite Mick Hucknall to join them, just before they perform in space, sans space suits. If that was then presented on an 11 CD/DVD gatefold box set, I'd happily buy it just for the poster of their final and greatest performance. 11 Chris Rea CD's isn't just too much for the attention span of adolescents, it's too much for an entire planet as far as I'm concerned.

Erm, possible misunderstanding here, I wasn't taking the blame or feeling particularly guilty on a personal level. And I'm not American. But thank you anyway. The 'mostly our fault' referred to you graciously accepting that some of the people involved in leading the balkans to war were to blame (a bit), but mostly it was the West supplying weapons and interfering that created ethnic tensions, and then a war out of nothing in particular. So, me saying 'mostly our fault then' was meant to be an interpretation of your opinion, not mine. Hope that clears things up, but my track record on clarification of my own posts is pretty poor... no more than a 10% success rate
-
This ain’t no technological breakdown Oh no, this is the road to hell.... At the moment, discussing the Balkans (on a different thread) is making my brain hurt less than this.
-
So just mostly our fault then. I just figured that the Serbs & Croats fighting each other in WWII, then all having to live in one country under Tito's independent communist rule for about 45 years probably made tensions simmer for a bit before the west even got a chance to meddle, either with weapons or politics. I'm happy to be corrected on this if I'm wrong, however. I may be a bit out of my depth on this one.

I can't save you, but if it's any consolation my mind is also in Rea overload, except it's the horrific high pitched guitar bit from 'on the beach' that's doing the damage to me rather than the gravel voice. Misery loves company? It's not helping me at the moment.
-
Ah right, it's the fault of Europe and the US as usual. Not the massive ethnic tensions that have always existed in the area then? Not that I'm trying to say we're blameless with regards to creating or inflaming conflict, but I don't think anyone needed our assistance on this occasion. Is the book still around, or has that disappeared with his death? Would be interesting to see what these facts are.

I bet it was disappointing, although it's the next best option if he can't be made to face justice. We'll have to make do with him meeting his maker I guess; I hope for his sake he's got his summer clothes on because it's about to get very warm for him.
-
This thread explains how to post pics, hope it helps. Voila! Thanks LG, I wonder if the hair is still as magnificent today? Maybe those protecting him from justice have insisted on him brylcreeming it. And thanks to RK for editing my previous post with the exact pic I was trying to post, only even bigger!
-
Just checked his discography to see if I hated any of his other songs, and apparently he also did 'Fool (If You Think It's Over)'. If I didn't know better I'd presume he'd written it in the last few days as a response to this thread.

The Docklands Light Railway station Mudchute is fairly silly, I'm not sure if Cockfosters leads up to it...

Just need to find Radovan Karadzic now, if not for his war crimes then at least for his heinous crimes against hair styling. If the word Bouffant didn't already exist, it'd have been invented especially for him.. I imagine the Institute of Trichology have been trying to bring him to justice for years. Erm, can't work out how to post pics, but there's some beauties here. http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=...l=1&sa=N&tab=wi It's good to know that even in a war situation he was able to get hold of a good quality diffuser! (Pic added for you - RK)

Returning back to Chris Rea briefly if I may, last year I had to hire a car to drive from London to Scotland, which bizarrely was a brand new Ford Ka with a f***ing tape player installed! This ruined my plans of listening to my own fantastic choons (or is that choonz, I forget) as I'd unwisely invested in CD's thinking they might catch on.... Anyway, after putting up with radio for as long as I could, I stopped at a service station to see if they still had any tapes worth buying. 2 different Chris B***ard Rea greatest hits albums, and nothing else! Surely the grave awaits this man, if there's any justice in this world? I was also surprised his greatest hits would take up two tapes, surely even one would be on the generous side? On the plus side, I did get to hear of Richard Whiteley's demise on a radio newsflash because of this lack of musical choice, so I know where I was & what I was doing when the great man passed away...

The Unwritten Rules...argue About Them Here
TLC replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I thought it was pretty clear too, but when I mentioned earlier in the thread that if people were able to use the site properly without written rules then they probably understood the unwritten ones, I got a reply suggesting my point of view was nonsense and DL desperately needed rules, hence my more careful questions afterwards. I also agree with Windsor on this one, hope my point of view hasn't come across too confusingly. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I just don't seem to be very good at this forum type communicating. Maybe I should go back to being an interested observer of the site, rather than a contributor? -
The Unwritten Rules...argue About Them Here
TLC replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
For punishment - There are no written rules. With rules there will be less bad behavier issues. Some people don't know how to act. Ah right, got it I think. I guess I've just not seen that much bad behaviour on here. If people are pushing their luck with the unwritten rules then I'm all for written ones. -
The Unwritten Rules...argue About Them Here
TLC replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Wow, clearly I don't understand. I'm not purposely being thick, but what is the deluge of crap exactly? And getting away with what? I don't want to be accidentally contributing to that deluge and p***ing everyone off. -
The Unwritten Rules...argue About Them Here
TLC replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I just presumed that the people who run this site can administer justice (or whatever) whenever & however they see fit. If it was badly done, people wouldn't use the site, and so those that do use it must kind of understand the unwritten rules to be able to enjoy using it. I think.... .....although if I got it right that means I just wrote down the unwritten rule, which can't be right. -
I'm still waiting for Robert Maxwell to make his return 15 years post burial. He'd have done it by now if he wasn't still so universally hated all this time later. And just because a body was found it doesn't mean anything; after 7 hours in the sea, most people would look like him to some extent...

She's still not forgiven for taking my milk away from me at school, she will always be 'Thatcher the Milk Snatcher' to me at some level. Not only that, she didn't even get the trains running on time, like any self-respecting dictator leader should.
