Bahadur Pun seems recovered enough here. Not bad for someone who the Daily Mirror says is "on his death bed".

To make up for my rather lame Karl Malden posting, here's a treat: A Detailed interview with Zsa Zsa & hubby AND an updated picture! 6 pages or so of DL material there - the fact that Gabor claims to be a mere 77 & Anhalt a mere 58 is a laugh... She also joins the long list of people that thinks Paris Hilton is "silly" What IS clear, is that she's one frail little lady, and she does get very depressed. But on death's door? Zsa Zsa herself sums it up on the last page: "I don't have any complaints, except that I'm not in such good physical condition. But we are perfectly O.K. There is nothing wrong right now. I am taken care of very well. We have a very good marriage. He's very nice to me. He looks after me." Make of it what you will....

When his family accept he's not going to make a recovery - the hospital has confirmed he's still brain dead.

Ideas and possibilities for 2008

He's just left hospital. It appears he's got treatment in time & it's going well, but that's been said about others. Still, like I said before, I hope in this case all IS fine. His cancer has returned, he's back in hospital, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, more surgery, back on my deadpool team, etc etc Porterfield is currently unable to work, and back in hospital. -
Sorry... on reflection, it was a bit of a stupid post by myself. Lesson learnt.

This thread is far too boring, but this is not a boring candidate. However, Malden still seems well and capable, as he is still getting croissants & coffee to take-away. Okay.. it's not exactly breaking news, but at least it proves Malden is still getting around, and quite easily, rather than simply wasting away..

Rare sighting of Jack Chick Looks okay, too, for a man who has the illness he has had recently. But pictures can be deceiving... He is, however still working, apparently

Giap is now 96. Looks frail, but healthy.

Here's one for Brinsworth House Baiter to do a bit of undercover work... Maradona to play against England again at Villa Park Can't be a complete roll call of 20 years ago anyway, as one of the Argentines, Cuciuffo, died a couple of years back. Another ex-DL candidate, Peter Shilton, is also an original, but as he's nearing 60, I'm not sure he'll play. The original teams ARGENTINA: Pumpido, Cuciuffo , Brown, Ruggeri, Olarticoechea, Batista, Giusti, Burruchaga (76 Tapia), Enrique, Valdano, Maradona © ENGLAND: Shilton ©, G.M.Stevens, Butcher, Fenwick, Sansom, Hoddle, Steven (76 Barnes), Reid (66 Waddle), Hodge, Lineker, Beardsley

Another name to add to the mix: Sabina Yasmin, an entertainment colossus in Bangladesh, is seriously ill with cancer. She would probably get an obit via the BBC South Asia pages, which often report Bollywood & other entertainment figures from that part of the world. The cancer, though, appears to be Hodgkins lymphona, which is often one of the more "treatable" cancers. -
Ah good, excellent news. Not only because of her personality, but it always helps reduce the shortlist a little bit when people are cancer-free. However, might be worth keeping a very loose eye on her in a few years as she seems to have had a few health problems since the cancer.

Quiz Time
Octopus of Odstock replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
7 on the death, and 2 on the sport quizzes. -
No, because I used the search facility, something you've never done. Not all deaths are announced straightaway - sometimes the only time the general masses know they're even dead is through a broadsheet obituary, often written by a friend or colleague. But I don't know why I'm bothering explaining this to you as you won't understand such a complex argument. PS to Devil May Care - he died one day before his birthday, as he was born on the 7th, died on the 6th. Even worse, as you don't get any presents!

Byron Stevenson, former Leeds, Swansea & Welsh International footballer, has died of throat cancer, aged only 50.

Oh bollocks. He was on my DDP 2008 provisional list & was a good hope for an unique pick. *Sigh*. Not my week DDP wise, but never mind.... Great shame though - another of those famous faces from my childhood gone. Whilst on the subject of dead UK and Northern TV actors, Geoffrey Wilkinson, another of those "you know the face..." has died

When I saw a top Canadian hockey player over 80 had died, I thought "Ah, well done, Canadian Paul", a early hit for you. Alas Max McNab was not on your list. PS I'm trying to send you a PM, CP, but your PM box is full. No rush, mind, so if they're full of CPDP stuff, I'll hang on for a bit.

Actress Miyoshi Umeki has died. She was the first "Asian" actress to win an Oscar, which was the Best Supporting Actress gong for Sayonara in 1957. This launched her onto a long & successful Stateside career as well as in her native country. Umeki was 78 years of age.

Not looking good for him is it? Apparently he had both a radio & a mobile phone with him, so as the BBC news report put it, it's rather "ominous" he hasn't made any contact....
-
Hmm.. another one I should've selected for the DDP but didn't. I knew my reasoning, as I suspected him to succumb to pancreatic cancer long before he actually did & thought recovery would be slow, but still doable. Obviously not. I suspect the news that he is gone very shortly, and when it does happen, well done to all the teams who DID pick him, which is a sizeable amount. Ah well, from dreams of 4th on the DDP, I'll be lucky if I'm 24th by the end of the week...
-
Well, at least CP should be given credit for thinking out of the box and trying to choose interesting candidates, again, remembering, of course, partly why the CPDP was set up - both are something you seem to have failed to do again, with another bunch of 100 somethings. Not a criticism per se, more an (barbed) observation. I suspect Koenraad Elst may not die, but if he does, then I'll get 10 times more satisfaction than if the oldest man in the world goes. Where's the skill in choosing people like that?

Well, I make it just one point between Football Fan & Rotten Ali now... Top 15 after Tomlinson's snuffing;- 1 Meet Your Maker 82 2 STAB_in_the_DARK 81 3 Mollie Sugden's Old Pussy 72 4 R.I.P. It Up And Start 68 5 Impaled On The Antlers Of Doom 67 6 Dead Men Walking 65 7 Eejit 61 = Bazzilliant 61 9 The Pale Rider 60 10 Deceased Hose 59 = Carkers' Convention 2007 59 12 Octopus of Odstock 57 ** (63 if Ruesch Obit) 13 No Noose Is Good Noose 55 14 We Spin Terror 54 = Go Fish 54 So I'm either in 12th, or 7th, dependent on if I'm successful or not in achieving that obit. Jane's death has certainly shook things around.
-
Maybe she wasn't faking after all then... I must admit, when I saw the news, when I read this thread, I'll be utterly berated by angry Tomlinson lovers. But no.. can't decide if that's good or bad. From a DP point of view, bugger it. That close to going 4th as soon as Ruesch got his obit.. now.. goodness any knows. Tomlinson has her revenge on me at the end, which I suppose is only fair, though slightly annoying

Jean-Paul Belmondo is possibly returning to films. He also managed to father a baby despite his stroke, so he can't be completely over the hill yet. Meanwhile Dick van Patten IS making a TV return and feels (and looks) "much much better".
-
Indeed, there's another UK based one, and one on Entertainment Insiders. I think the English media are only now just getting the news via the agencies. I understand from my motor racing sources at the broadsheets that he was on the obituary list (ie when they die, they get an obit), so there may well be one in The Independent or The Times by week's end. Not sure about the Telegraph, however, but only one is needed. Here's hoping anyway, it would put me fourth if no-one else dies by the time Ruesch gets his obit. Good obit too in the New York Times, but then they do research well.

Mike Soper might be one to watch, admittedly, but looking at these two articles, in 2002 & 2007, perhaps more for DL 2010/2011, than 2008. 2002 article 2007 article Greg Louganis has depression as well as HIV I can't link to it, as it's a subscription site, but Sir Bernard Lovell is still giving interviews & touring the country.
