I saw BB King perform last night at the Minnesota State Fair. for someone who is due to be 82 in a couple of weeks time he was in fine form. His voice was powerful, although he only performed for an hour and talked through most of the set. Etta James were there also fresh out of the hospital. She was on stage for an hour too and for someone who was discharged from hospital a short time ago, she was great. Both James and King arrived on stage on motorised wheelchairs

That really is sad news. Farewell Hilly

*grumbles to himself and crosses another name off his ever-shortening shortlist for 2008*

If Graham does go this year, it would be a good idea to take note of George Beverly Shea's condition at the funeral or even just put him on the list for next year

Its sooo difficult to ignore, it gets my goat!!!!!!!! ... Might be a good task for some mod on a rainy afternoon to give this thread another well-deserved once over. I beg to differ. It's comprehensively not the Mods' job to clear up this sh*t on a rainy afternoon. It's up to the membership, people like you and me and Windsor and LFNelson especially, not to keep responding so pathetically, cheaply, soullessly and predictably to every vaguely-annoying guest comment that appears in the thread. The bulk of utter sh*t in this thread comes from members who just can't let a guest comment lie, for whatever reason. Stop cheapening the experience for the rest of us and stop abdicating responsibility for thread quality to the Mods. Castro's still alive. SC, I dont' think they need any encouragement, they'll fill the thread up with inane banter anyway. The best any of us can do, is nod, smile and ignore the comments

I'm on the edge of my seat with anticipation

Just how many hoaxes does it take to get to the death of Castro? Along the same lines of how many Cuban revolutionaries does it take to change a light bulb... What's the point with all these imminent-death-announcements of Castro? Does anyone believe that his final breath will come any faster by wishing him dead or something? Ive already dropped enough hints about this thread, you and me are wasting our collective breath. His death has been imminent for the past couple of years. just ignore the comments. It's similar to how Michael Foot was supposed to die last year and his death was supposedly imminent

They both had the same make-up consultant by the looks of things, but Helmsley was just a bitch whereas Messner was at least quite a nice person but it was her husband at the time who was the one behind the fraud that was commited

I was getting a feeling of deja-vu but it seems that this is the second Iraqi governor to have been killed within the space of about a week

I didn't understand a word of that

I voted for Shamir I've been wrong each time so far no need to break a habit

what a turn around for this year. only a few months ago we were kicking ourselves for not getting a single hit and letting many others slip by

Oh bollocks. He was on my DDP top 5 for 08. I read a report about two months back, which said he was in his last year or so. Well, at least all the recent culling of my 2008 team makes it a bit easier to choose other candidates. To DDT and Phantom, I share your pain. To Anubis, excellent pick, well done. oh well, back to my ever shortening shortlist for '08

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! He was on my CPDP team. Honestly he was. He took Phil Drabble's place. Looks like Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria is going to have to come off the subs bench. I was a bit peeved about that one too, heard it on the radio when driving back to the office

O arguably. Of course. It's arguable. Filmed last century. It was last filmed in 1998. Last Century. Thanks for letting me know. Thanks I actually happened to know that already. But you were just trying to help) - A silver star for you today! Or maybe you were aiming higher. Just a little bit higher. Your expectations were higher. Sometimes we don't get everything we want. So wipe those tears from your eyes and keep your head high. O and while your at it forget the logic of 'what comes up must come down' It's all gonna be alright. Your parents love you and your future is looking real bright - your popular and your girlfriend is dynamite walking (If you get my tone). Your a superstar. Not sure it was the best comedy of the last century. I'm currently in the process of watching season 8 at the moment. And... hmmm it could be better

Is there a list published somewhere? This one Thanks I wonder what's the Japanese secret for long life. Only letting the GRG to review their records every September. The correspondents are only allow to check the Japanese records once per year due to their privacy laws, so I'm told that a lot of the Japanese cases are likely already deceased - and some already are, they just usually wait until September to do the big update. now that is something I didn't know. so our Henry could be even higher up the list?

Alzheimer's and a combination of not having any visitors takes a lot out of a person. basically it shatters your spirit. Norman Wisdom was/is a very popular person and thrives on being around people who enjoy his company and have grown up watching his movies. After all Lee Evans modeled himself on Norman Wisdom. I think Wisdom will be a far flung image of who he used to be in about a year's time.

Mainly cos the whole idea of that particular deadpool was not to choose easy picks like ancient old biddies. I think it's also notable that none of the teams that selected her on DDP had her down as a joker pick. I'm guessing that most people had her down as a "20th person" or "low banker" pick - a strong, good pick, but not worth as many points as say the Iraqis or Messner etc. (Shamir was my 20th/low banker pick - he'd better die as Lady Bird Johnson, Astor, Bruce Bennett & Zahir Shah were all rejected in favour of him) Totally agree OoO, it removes any skill when you pick someone just because they're old. My father-in-law does that each year. I think the youngest person he has this time round is 92.
-
But at the time of her death she was dead. That's how we would know the time. So she couldn't have been the oldest person then, only up to the time of her death. she died, you don't get much older than that That puts Henry Allingham as the 53rd oldest person in the world

Well, if that's the case - my mind's made up - if it stops Iain from posting, this forum upgrade is the best thing ever to happen to the Deathlist. It gets my vote
