I'm reluctant to place him on my list for next year just at the moment as I know that as soon as I pencil him in, he'll die within a couple of days

I think half the shops are being raided at the moment during the rioting

Well, that's what happens if you opt for treatment on the NHS

According to the news crawler on BBC, Maggie Thatcher is quoted as being "greatly saddened" by the death of Pinochet. I guess Thatcher looked to Pinochet as a mentor

I might be the "one other", I can't remember who I voted for

I wonder why he's getting so much press? Mostly when they go, they only get a news story in the local news, yet Buchanan has been getting it nationally and now... internationally? He was one of just two WWI vets still alive in Massachusetts Which makes even less sense. If he's not even the last of something, how come he's getting so much press? The last British female WWI veteran got almost no press aside from a few bits and kibbles in the UK. A lot of veterans who are the last of their area don't even get obit period. How did an otherwise unremarkable WWI veteran get coverage all the way over in England? By the way, to keep on topic, it appears that Moses Hardy has died, though no newswire confirmation as of yet. I've not read the news report on him, perhaps he held a higher rank in the navy? All I saw on the crawler on CNN was that he was one of two left alive in his state. But I've no idea why it would generate such news coverage

If Doherty is providing the voice for himself, I wonder if the director will have to rephrase himself when he tells Doherty to practise his lines

Susan, I'd love to go and see Joe Longthorne, but sadly on the 10th & 17th of December, I'm removing the skin from my hands and dipping them into large bowls of salt and washing them with lemon juice Never mind Phantom 2000 people and more cant be wrong his shows are always full hope your hand are getting better That's ok, I've always considered Joe Longthorne to be among the same easy-listening set as people such as Richard Clayderman

Judge Awards $2.2M in Astor Legal Fees NEW YORK (AP) -- The judge who heard the fight over the estate and care of philanthropist Brooke Astor awarded lawyers in the case more than $2.2 million Monday rather than what he called the ''staggering'' $3.04 million they sought. State Supreme Court Justice John Stackhouse noted that the fee and expense requests were meant to pay 56 lawyers, 65 legal assistants, six accountants, five bankers, six doctors, a law school professor and two public relations firms. The judge noted that Annette de la Renta, whom he appointed to be the guardian of the 104-year-old Astor's personal well being, asked for nothing as reimbursement. The fees and expenses will be paid from the $120 million estate of Astor, who has for decades been one of the city's top socialites. The largest award, $1.07 million, went to the JPMorgan Chase bank, appointed by the judge to be guardian of Astor's finances. The bank was appointed after Astor's grandson, Philip Marshall, contended she had been reduced to sleeping in a ragged gown on a filthy couch and was subsisting on pureed peas and oatmeal. He accused his father, Anthony Marshall, of neglecting her while looting her multimillion-dollar estate. His father denied wrongdoing. The judge said he considered Philip Marshall the winner in the court fight and awarded him $368,912 to pay his lawyers. Stackhouse also awarded Anthony Marshall $409,451 to cover legal expenses. Astor is the widow of Vincent Astor, a great-great-grandson of John Jacob Astor, who made a fortune in fur trading and New York real estate. In the decades after her husband's death in 1959, Astor gave away nearly $200 million to support New York's great cultural institutions and a host of humbler projects, winning a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in 1998.

DID KIRK EVER, EVER ADMIT HE FATHERED THE TWINS OUT OF WEDLOCK? ONE OF THEM LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE HIM ON DOWN TO THE BIG DIMPLED CHIN. What twins? Is this yet another bizarre contribution from the Ether or am I missing something (again)? As far as I know Kirk didn't father twins, Michael is 3 years older than Joel

If he died this year and details aren't released until next year, then we'll have marked him down as being being a 2006 success. I'm not entirely sure what happens if he dies towards the end of the year and we've selected him for next year too. Unless there's a few days gap when the next year's list is revealed just to be on the safe side.

Pinochet shows slight improvement Doctors at the Santiago military hospital told reporters the former ruler was "exhausted" following surgery to widen a blood vessel after suffering a severe heart attack early on Sunday. He told reporters earlier that Gen Pinochet would stay in hospital and under observation for "at least 10 days".
-
Pinochet's condition is now being described as critical even though his son stated that he "spent a stable, calm night," So who knows, but the next few days will certainly be ones to watch closely

I hate spam too, my gran used to feed it to us when we'd visit her. Then one day she switched to corned beef

I wonder Mrs M Thatcher has time to send him a "get well soon" card!!! Initially they were saying that the 2nd op would be too risky, now they're saying it's 'not needed' Although I think it's a long way out of the woods for Pinochet, looks like he's just made it to the first clearing

More Pinochet surgery ruled out
