Jimmy Carter still seems quite healthy, although he did look very tired when he appeared with Larry King the other day. George H.W. Bush also looked quite healthy in recent photos from last month

You could ask Iain what odds he's been given for that. Probably something ridiculous like 1-200 CNN are reporting his condition as being grave. I don't think they're updated the website to state that yet

I have a feeling next year will be quite possibly his last. The detoriation of his condition described in the article earlier in the year and also this one reminds me a lot of my gran in her last year when she was suffering from Alzheimer's. I think he should without a doubt go back on the list for next year and be higher up, possibly in the top 10

Don't know how I could have possibly overlooked this opportunity for so long. Josco, vous ĂȘtes un NĂ©erlandais. I only just noticed this post, I have to say Sir Stirling Moss is doing quite well despite having been diagnosed with prostate cancer 5 years ago. I believe he is only about 73 and makes lots of regular public appearances.

A dangerous state Phantom. Once over one of those newspaper features allowing the public to pose questions received a query from a reader asking if anyone had ever died of boredom. The following week an historian from some university wrote in and his take on this was terrifying. Apart from the random accidents caused by boredom he pointed out that several wars, including the 100 years war, could be attributed largely to royals and other heads of state lacking a meaningful focus. The moral of his response being that those suffering serious boredom often act in ways that cause the death of others. Phantom man, we're in danger until something good comes on your telly! Incidentally, if you're at work, you're not flying a plane or driving a 50 ton truck or owt, are yer? Just got a pile of work dumped on my desk. oh what fun, I have 200 mortages to review and check all the documentation is there by the end of tomorrow

Susan, I'd love to go and see Joe Longthorne, but sadly on the 10th & 17th of December, I'm removing the skin from my hands and dipping them into large bowls of salt and washing them with lemon juice

She's an aging British television actress. Most people tend to remember her as Lou Beale in Eastenders The only other thing I can remember her from was she played the neighbour in the Sci-Fi movie Xtro and she also played one of the women in the village in Pete & Dud's version of The Hound of The Baskervilles.

Has everyone forgotten who was on that first list? Did lists exist before the forum or were there many years after the initial idea when lists were not prepared? The '87 list (set in December '86) is the first list, and it should be included on the scroll down on the top of the page, along with every year through the present, excluding '88. Thanks CR. It's along time since I've looked there. I note there are a few survivors from nearly 20 years ago. We could just for fun, put the only survivors from the 1987 list on the 2007 list and see what happens. I think in total there are about 3 left remaining from the original list. Good call Phantom... I just had a look there are 5 still alive from the 1987 list Andera De Cesaris Clive Dunn Jimmy Saville Ozzy Osbourne Anna Wing

This is the latest news story I could find on Brady from October 23rd New battle for Brady journalist A journalist is facing a fresh attempt by a health authority to force him to reveal his source for an article about the care of Moors murderer Ian Brady. Robin Ackroyd's 1999 Daily Mirror story made allegations about mistreatment of Brady at Ashworth Hospital, Merseyside. Mersey Care NHS trust wants a High Court ruling won by Mr Ackroyd in February to be overturned. The Court of Appeal case centres on the balance between press freedom and the confidentiality of medical records. At the original hearing, the High Court rejected argument by the trust that the public interest in a journalist's right to protect his sources was overridden by patient confidentiality. On Monday, Vincent Nelson QC told three appeal judges in London it was not disputed the hospital had a legitimate aim in seeking to establish the identity of the employee who had leaked information to Mr Accord relating to Brady's treatment. The point at issue was whether there was a "pressing social need" for disclosure of the journalist's source in this case. In the High Court, Mr Justice Tugendhat had said Mr Ackroyd was a "responsible journalist" who was "acting in the public interest". The new case is among a series of court battles between the trust and the media over the Brady case. Some of the information disclosed to Mr Ackroyd came from Brady's medical records on a confidential database known as the Patient Administrative and Clinical Information Service (PACIS). It formed the basis of a story published in the Daily Mirror in December 1999 about alleged mistreatment of Brady while he was being force-fed on hunger strike. The Mirror fought unsuccessfully all the way to the House of Lords to avoid having to disclose its source - Mr Ackroyd - who then became the target of the action brought by the trust in its attempts to identify who leaked the information. A High Court judge ruled in October 2002 that Mr Ackroyd must reveal his source. But in May 2003, the Court of Appeal held that Mr Ackroyd should be allowed to defend himself - which he did, successfully, earlier this year. Brady was jailed for life with Myra Hindley in 1966 for the murders of five children in Greater Manchester. The 67-year-old began his hunger strike in September 1999.

Doherty voted leading 'anti-icon' Rock star Pete Doherty has been voted the most "undeserving icon" of the year in a men's magazine survey. Some 1,000 readers of Arena voted the Babyshambles singer, 27, as the personality least worthy of their celebrity status in an online poll. Doherty is rarely out of the headlines thanks to his high-profile relationship with model Kate Moss and his battle against drug addiction. Comedian and radio presenter Russell Brand came second in the list.

Former Russian PM 'was poisoned' Doctors treating former Russian Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar, who is gravely ill, believe he was poisoned, an aide said. "Doctors don't see a natural reason for the poisoning and they have not been able to detect any natural substance known to them" in Gaidar's body, spokesman Valery Natarov said. "So obviously we're talking about poisoning (and) it was not natural poisoning."
