The "any one" bonus point rule is excellent. I'd go for any one Russian dissident now living in London. Or is that too big a pool? You could say "any Russian dissident now willing to openly criticize Vladimir Putin" and you might get both of them

Arthur Laurents was born on July 14th 1918 which makes him 88 Other than that, I can find very little on his health status.

I think there was a seperate thread that I forgot all about when I posted the link to the BBC site last night. Well, no. A member started a new topic about him and I moved the posts in the "Near Misses" topic there, including the two above. regards, Hein Ahh MH, that explains it. I'm half asleep this morning and saw the post from the guest, then thought "where did my post go"?

I wish I had someone who would be willing to stump up 10,000 if I guessed correctly on someone's demise without any intervention. Closest I'm going to get at the moment is $35 if things stay the same

What odds did the bookie give you? Anubis, I know it's illegal to bet on someone's demise in the UK, that's why I had an air of dubiousness about the placing of the bet and even more so with the odds of 1-100.

Not the Fluff meister, NO, damn it to hell another DDP candidate slips through the net. I even dropped him from my list this year in the hope of including him next year. Oh well, that's the 9th one I had ready for next year to die in the past 6 weeks. who were the eight others? Sounds like being on your 2007 short list is worse for one's health than a visit from Jessica Fletcher out of Murder she Hoped Wrote Puskas, Sandy West, Freddy Fender, Si Simmons and Ross Davidson were some of the others. I forget who the other 3 were as my list is at home. I did put Angela Lansbury on my list one year just out of wishful thinking

That's almost as bad as "Thatcher - The Musical" or even "The Times They Are A-changin' " based on the songs of Bob Dylan. I believe both of those were short lived. I wonder which will die first, Tammy or the musical

Steve Favela the Honolulu police officer who was injured while escorting George W. Bush has died at the age of 30. His motorcycle collided with two other police motorcyclists. It also wasn't a good week for those protecting the Bush family. One bodyguard was mugged and hospitalised when he was off duty from protecting Bush's daughters. And then later that same week his daugter Barbara had her purse/handbag stolen from a cafe while a number of secret service agents were present. None of them saw a thing

To be read in conjunction with this. awww why did they have to edit it. It was funnier the first time it was written

According to a Wikipedia Entry Giorgio Panto regional television station owner has died in "an elicopter incident" It's almost grammatically correct, however they missed the apostrophe in front of 'elicopter

You beat me to it. A nasty accident. Accedent happen often in indoor cycling races, but they're rarely fatal. While Galvez is famous enough in my book he's hardly a Near Miss either. regards, Hein Would help if I typed his name correctly though It should read Isaac Galvez. I think I've heard of him briefly, but I'm not one to follow cycling. The only ones I've really heard of are Chris Boardman and Lance Armstrong.

I'm sure you're aware that we've described a lot of celebs as being "dull" Just because Longthorne is ill it doesn't make him any less dull than he already is. Or are we to believe that once a person becomes ill, we're only permitted to print nice comments about them? I wonder if Saddam was to fall ill before his execution we'll have to give utmost sympathy and quote his previous judge's words in that he wasn't really a dictator, but that he just fell in with the wrong crowd I'm obviously not a Joe Longthorne fan and find his shows about as exciting as watching paint dry

Isac Galvez world cycling champion has died after a collision with another cyclist during a race.

Rita, I think the hospitalization was something to do with his kidneys although I've not seen any reports to state that. The only thing I've seen mentioned in the news about him this year has been when he was writing to the mother of one of his victims. Then again 18 months ago he was given "weeks to live" by doctors tending him. I wish they would just remove that feeding tube and do us all a favour

Silvio Berlusconi collapses during rally Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been taken ill during a speech to supporters in northern Italy. Mr Berlusconi, 70, slumped at the podium while delivering a speech at a centre-right rally in Tuscany and collapsed into the arms of his aides. Although the next paragraph states that he's on the mend and that he was just overcome with heat. I'd have to look at the weather reports to see how hot it is in Italy during November

Ah, but later in that article, he claims he has been healed by God. We shall see. I have doubts over his fame, but I guess he'll get something in the broadsheets if nothing else. I had no idea Tommy Makem was still alive, I thought he'd left us a few years ago. I've got a copy of him singing "Whiskey, you're the devil" with The Clancey Brothers.

membership to the site doesn't cost anything. When I've posted links to articles, it's because I'm at work and in a hurry. Unfortuntely, NY Times seemed to be the only place that was following the court case.

Lizzie Bolden will make the news, purely because she was the world's oldest person before Maria Esther de Capovilla was discovered to be older. This made Bolden the oldest confirmed person in the US and now she's both the oldest in the US and the world

Great actor, and was on my shortlist for 2007. The fact that he's got quite a prominent mention on the BBC entertainment page gives me hope that a few more on my shortlist will get UK obits... I've only ever seen him in Cinema Paradiso and Il Postino. He was a fine actor in both of those

Who me? Or www.sweatpantserection.com? It's an AP photo, according to the information I have. Just so happened the above site had a handy picture of said now dead director in wheelchair. The owner of sweatpantserection.com was the one I was referring to. Not sure why they were so particular about you linking to their website. You'd have thought they would be grateful for the free advertising
