    Not Exactly Famous...

He's pretty well known, I'd have thought Near Misses thread for him. I haven't read any of his books yet I'd still heard of him. wow, I'm astonished. I saw Gemell at a book signing at Forbidden Planet in London a couple of years ago, he looked really well. His "Waylander" series was one of the most popular of all his works

    Brooke Astor

She must be as tough as old boots. It didn't take long for hospital staff to also add "we are hopeful that she is going to go home in the very near future."

    Aaron Spelling

I am not surprised, because Tori had been estranged from her father for several years. Here is a link. Tori Won't Inherit the Earth The way they reported it on the radio yesterday, was that it was more due to her stepmother that there was some friction but allegedly Tori claims to have been quite close to her father. But what actually sickened me was that she was upset that she was only getting $1m, not the fact that her father had just died

Good to hear that he's beaten Leukemia (again) he was diagnosed about 10 years ago and managed to shrug that one off. Although looking at the photo, he's taken a severe bashing from the ugly-stick

    Near misses 2006

Perhaps the "Near Misses" thread should be renamed to "Smegging 'ell!!!! How did we miss that one"?

    Saddam Hussein

I hope his execution (by whatever method) is televised. That would be interesting though. I can just imagine how the event would take place. Commentator:- "And now we go live to the execution of Saddam Hussein. And Heeeeeeeere's Saddam!!" Voice-Over:- "Saddam Hussein's execution was brought to you by Addidas, McDonald's and Pantene official sponsors of The Execution" I can't wait to buy the DVD so I can relive it again and again. I was going to see if it's released on PS2 /3 or Xbox

    Gerald Ford

Ask and ye shall receive. Not quite CNN, but you get the point. You'd have thought they would have put something on the ABC News website as it was ABC News on the radio that I heard the details from.

    Aaron Spelling

I haven't found a proper link online, but I heard on the radio that Tori Spelling is fuming that she'll only inherit about $1m from her father's estate. Seems that her stepmother really didn't like her, but couldn't persuade Aaron to completely write her out of the will but a greatly reduced amount to what she originally thought she would inherit

I once got hit by a van when its brakes failed. The backpack I was carrying saved me from a nasty collision with the kerb. Strangely enough it had a few tins of food in it, but it didn't hurt me.

    Brooke Astor

Most interesting that it wasn't just in the Telegraph, but Brooke Astor's plight was on the front page. There's no doubt now, that she will get a UK obit, which had been a worry of mine. I'm surprised that she's suddenly getting so much press coverage. There hadn't been a word about her for such a long time. Maybe she's nearing her final days and the grandson is getting more and more concerned that his father will just take complete control over her estate and not leave a penny to anyone else

    Gerald Ford

I heard on the radio earlier that Ford had been released from hospital, I'll see if I can find a link from CNN or something

    The Poseidon Adventure Cast

No way, he'll be here for years yet. He'll outlive Borgnine, but both of them may outlive one of the younger names on the list. Han't Leslie Nielsen had a couple of small health scares in the past?

    Byron Nelson

The evidence points toward a naughty Banshees Scream, Interfering with the sacred Wiki, you fiend Banshees. oh well, I would have got a point for Joseph Barbera, although I don't want Byron Nelson to go as my father-in-law has him on his list and he's won every year for the past 5 years
