    Valerie Harper

I wouldn`t read anything into it.It`s not a big birthday like 70 or 80.She probably just had a quiet one with family and friends.

    Jim Bowen

He also has emphysema which could hasten his decline further.Issue is with strokes and people over a certain age is that if you have two or more you tend to keep having them until one finishes you off.Certainly a household name who would make the news at 6 and 10 when he croaks!

    1. Jimmy Carter

Stage 4 cancer is usually terminal and when it is in four spots in the brain and the Doctors aren`t sure where it started and say it is likely other tumours will be found it is ominous at best.Even if he responds remarkably well to treatment he will still be 92 next year and the treatment will undoubtedly weaken him.

Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread

She is pretty much guaranteed a Guardian obit for her stage work.Digital Spy and the Mail will cover her demise too probably and maybe even the BBC News entertainment section if it is a quiet day.Don`t rate her chances on making 2016 though. She was initially diagnosed two to three years ago and can only get palliative care on the NHS.She also needs another £65,000 to get experimental treatment.

    The Death Penalty

You say that as if it's a bad thing. While I'm neither hippy (If anything, I'm a punk rocker), do-gooder, nor pacifist, some of my best friends are hippy do-gooder pacifists. I have never met a person of that description who wasn`t utterly insufferable maybe I just haven`t met a wide enough variety of them.Good to have you back by the way Magere !

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2016

Speaking of Sacks. He published a brilliant article a few days ago about his life and death.Don`t get the impression he has very much longer. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/opinion/sunday/oliver-sacks-sabbath.html?_r=0 "And now, weak, short of breath, my once-firm muscles melted away by cancer, I find my thoughts, increasingly, not on the supernatural or spiritual, but on what is meant by living a good and worthwhile life — achieving a sense of peace within oneself. I find my thoughts drifting to the Sabbath, the day of rest, the seventh day of the week, and perhaps the seventh day of one’s life as well, when one can feel that one’s work is done, and one may, in good conscience, rest."

Top 4 in that order would be good I think. If any are left off it would be a massive mistake. 5. We need Lynne Stewart as well Lynne Stewart I am slightly cautious about as her cancer is not progressing at the moment. However it is stage 4 and terminal plus she has loads of other breathing and blood pressure problems.I also wonder if she is really a Death List name. She isn`t too notable over here like the other 4.What does everyone else think?I guess she could be ok to put on the list as she is notable for her work and imprisonment and will easily obit.Same with Grace Lee Boggs Holly Woodlawn and Phyllis Tickle.

In the last 8 years I have been to ten funerals.3 grandparents 4 neighbours a great uncle a close friend of my grandparents and a schoolfriend.I am only 20 so that is quite a lot at my age but apart from my friend who was 18 all the others were aged between 80 and 94.

    Jeremy Corbyn

I am pretty sure he is going to be another Michael Foot.Foot was also elected with the principle of being a unifying figure who would get back to the grass roots of the party and re-capture the essence of old fashioned Labour. What happened though was the right of the party formed the SDP and the ones that did stay criticized other Labour Mp`s more than they did the Tories .I really doubt Corbyn could win in 2020 or even stay as Leader that long. The Blairitites will hate him as much as the Tories, if he tries to win back the Scottish vote he will not regain support in England due to the contention behind the West-Lothian question. The press of course will vilify him and he will struggle to get a shadow cabinet that isn`t comprised largely of ageing socialists such as Abbott and McDonell who I don`t think will endear themselves to the voters. As for this "Corbynmania" lark it is just a gimmick. After all we had Milifandom the Green Surge and Nick Clegg`s surge in the polls in 2010 and they are all well and truly on the scrapheap now.Funny how loads of Green party members I know have signed up to Labour to vote for Corbyn. They don`t seem to realise that if he gets in it will kill off their party through mass defections.

    May I Perchance Rant?

I don`t think a British actors thread is necessary. For example I think creating threads for John Hurt Liam Nesson and Ronnie Corbett are ok because they are massive names and worth highlighting for discussion. If the actor is generic or bit part then put them in the nearest thread possible unless they have stage 4 pancreatic cancer or ALS or something equally as deadly and are over 95 then they should get their own thread!

    The Death Penalty

Having said I personally don`t think the death penalty is the best punishment I don`t particularly care if some arsehole rapist or murderer in Texas gets the chair.Just though I would clear that up so none of you thought I was a hippy do-gooder pacifist or summat

:George has rang President Carter twice in the last couple of weeks.Doesn`t say anything about his health but shows he is still mentally alert and in touch with current affairs.

    1. Jimmy Carter

If you look his skin is yellowish which is a prime indicator of jaundice. He also was only diagnosed because of his severe cold in May meaning he has been able to uncover the illness before it gets debilitating.A friend of mine`s father for example injured his spine in a garden accident and was given a full body scan which reveled stage 4 colon cancer. He looked great for 3 or so months of his diagnosis despite being physically very bad.He died within 6 months of diagnosis. The reason is perhaps that if you find terminal cancer by accident before experiencing symptons you will look normal for a while whereas if cancer is discovered by symptons you have already deteriated physically somewhat.Terminal is terminal though at the end of the day.

Well, I think the situation is a bit different in his case. He said that doctors had told him that 98% of melanomas (or melanomae?) originate on the skin, and 2% internally. But the conditional probability that his cancer has originated on the skin when some spots were found in his liver and brain but (so far) none on his skin is probably less. I may have believed her if the cancer in the brain was in one small location as the treatment can then be localised or cut out through surgery depending on its location but 4 separate spots:no way. Also what she fails to consider is that many new treatments although somewhat effective have horrible side effects as was seen in the case of Sam Simon. Now Jimmy is very close to 91 has had in his own words a fantastic life getting to the top of the political game to setting up his own centre which will definitely go on for a long time and also has even got to the stage of his life of being a revered elder statesmen and elder. He has had a very happy marriage lasting nearly 70 years and has 4 children aged between 47 and 68 12 grandchildren and 10 grandchildren. You know that`s a full life plus he has a devout Christian belief in going to heaven meaning that if the treatment doesn`t work well he can still in his eyes look forward to a second life without pain. All this combined with the fact he has had a much longer life than all his siblings could likely mean he doesn`t opt for experimental treatment with horrible side affects. In the case of Sam Simon and many others there seems to be a fight to the death mentality due to a feeling of being short changed of time but with Carter he has achieved more than most people can ever imagine and is a darn good age and he is fully aware of that.[/url]

we need Clifton James and Sean Connery threads as well Surprised Sean doesn`t have his own thread. He is a former Deathlist candidate after all!
