European central bank head found dead in pool

Dutch TV has the news that Wim Duisenberg, former president of the European Central Bank, has been found dead in his home in France. Cause of death is not yet known. He was 70 years old.

 

BBC News now has the story:

 

He drowned following cardiac problems at his home in the town of Faucon, a regional prosecutor says.

Police said the 70-year old's body was found in a swimming pool.

Wim Duisenberg, the former head of the European Central Bank who helped create the euro currency, has been found dead in a swimming pool in south-east France, officials said.

 

Police did not give a cause for Duisenberg's death, though a French government official was expected to give details later this evening
