Von Trapps

Recommended Posts

Sorry, bad timing, not many DLers about and needs research but I'm excited about the von Trapps. Apparently they now live quietly in Vermont but there must be tons of them, probably more than surviving munchkins. Maria must be long dead, but what about the kids? Famous enough, surely.

All that stuff in the film - it didn't happen. They caught a bloody train and didn't live happily ever.

I quote: "The isolation of a life on the road or on the farm, combined with constant work and Maria's volatile temper, took its toll. Rosmarie, Maria's eldest child, suffered a nervous breakdown and her mother sent her for electro-shock therapy. Another daughter ran away to elope."

It's like Eastenders.

Yup, she's long dead, as is Christopher (well not Christopher, he's doing fine but her old man). But there's 10 little VTs to be accounted for, each of whom will get an obit when they go.

Meanwhile a song for Kurt:

Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me

small and white,

clean and bright,

you look happy to meet me

blossom of snow

may you bloom and grow,

bloom and grow forever

edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my home-land forever

A disappointingly large number of dead von Trapps there. It's easy to forget that The Sound of Music was made a long time ago. For me it was like yesterday. Agathe and Maria F look promising and definite obituary fodder with a slightly better claim to fame than munchkins.

It's time for a remake of the Sound of Music that gets rid of all the schmaltz and tells the story how it was - a bunch of singing Austrians whose off-stage antics put the Osmonds in the shade.

In their time, in their own way, and in Austria at least, the von Trapps were bigger than the Osmonds, the Lonely Goatherd being far superior to Crazy Horses.

only 4 of the Von Trapp children have died, 6 of them left

I can't count, almost as many surviving von Trapps then as surviving munchkins. I wonder which of these two groups will suffer the first death from here on in? I suppose the odds must be with the munchkins. The von Trapps appear to be very comfortable, like most Austrians. Or maybe an Osmand might come up from the back of the pack and surprise them all.

Marie Osmond seems to be the only one who has distanced themselves from the rest of the family. Which Osmond had a mild heart attack a year or so ago?

I know Donny is going strong, he's just finished a sell-out stint in Minneapolis

Those Von Trapp bastards have got a lot to answer for,

If only the Nazi's had got 'em, then that god awful musical would never have been made.

Inflicting unnaturally shiny white teeth on an unsuspecting and ill prepared British public.

The bastards.

All this talk of the Osmonsa reminded me of this from a couple of years ago.

It wasn't this website that started the rumours by any chance was it?

The site incidentally is worth a look around. Do we know about it?

It's a shame it's not accompanied by the words of "I'm you're long haired lover from Liverpool...", my favourite song, ever.

Guest John

You show Rosmarie's year of birth as 1929, which is the year given in Maria's first book.

On Maria's Declaration of Intention to become a United States citizen, signed on January 21, 1944, she shows Rosmarie's date of birth as February 8, 1928. In her Petition for Naturalization, signed on May 26, 1948, she also shows February 8, 1928, as Rosmarie's date of birth.

On both documents, and in her book, the date of her marriage to the Captain is shown as November 26, 1927.

Married on November 26, 1927

First child born on February 8, 1928.

Two months, and 13 days, later?

It doesn't take a math major (or a biology major) to figure out what happened.

Or why the Captain suddenly broke off his engagement to Princess Yvonne.

Or maybe Princess Yvonne broke it off?

Or why the convent let her go?

Or why the captain married beneath his social rank?

The declaration and the petition are under oath. And nobody knew about her then. The book and the family website, of course, are not under oath.

Anyone care to comment on this?

Maria up the duck before she got to the alter? This is a good story - one for the red tops. Where's Hackenslash if he's the real McCoy?

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?

It's that bloody Holy Ghost up to his old tricks again I'll bet.

Just wait till his Dad finds out.

You'd have thought Maria would have been so used to hearing "Candles out" that she would have taken more care with the Captain. It gives a whole new meaning to "My Favourite Things".
