Phantom 2,533 Posted January 23, 2006 How about Charles Forte as a possibility for next year if he makes it to the end of this year? According to Wikipedia, he'll be 98 this year
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 23, 2006 I mentioned him last year in the Ideas and possibilities for '06 thread, http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?...indpost&p=24147 I agree he would be a good choice, definitely famous enough, in the UK anyway. Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 23, 2006 How about Charles Forte as a possibility for next year if he makes it to the end of this year? According to Wikipedia, he'll be 98 this year Is he in ill-health though? People have a bad habit of picking people who are simply old which, although being a better strategy than picking people are simply young, still isn't as good as picking the infirm. Ah yes the infirm, like Ronnie Biggs or Pope JPII, who lingered for years. Unless it's a terminal illness, you never can tell when they'll drop.

Ah yes the infirm, like Ronnie Biggs or Pope JPII, who lingered for years. Unless it's a terminal illness, you never can tell when they'll drop. Pope JPII was first placed on the 1990 list. If you had put Brooke Astor on that list, she'd have been 88, which is in and around the age a lot of "pick them because they're old" suggestions get suggested, and she's still around. I totally lost my point. But yes, point taken. If DLing was an exact science, we'd all have gotten pretty damn good at it by now.
Godot 149 Posted January 24, 2006 Quite right CP etc, My theory is that the older they get, the more proficient they become at being old. So if you make it to 90, for instance, and your heart's sound and you're relatively cancer free, there's no reason why you shouldn't be good for five, six, eight years, even the ton. It's the fatties and the smokers, like Bernard Manning, you have to start watching in their 60s. There is no way that someone like that or Barrymore, for example, is going to make 90 and Doherty won't make 60. But once the big C gets you good and proper, like John Spencer, the clock is really ticking. Alcohol is not always helpful because the liver can regenerate unless you push it too far of course. Next year all my DDP choices are going to have to be really cancerous, have learned my lesson. Still it's fun to pick the Thatchers of this world. I had Rugova for one entry but it was a bit boring. I couldn't even muster a whoop. Imagine picking a fit thirty-something like Matt Lucas, say, and he keels over one day. DL Bliss. Has anyone picked anyone young at random and scored in the history of the deathlist? Anyways Forte looks like he could be up for the ton.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 24, 2006 Has anyone picked anyone young at random and scored in the history of the deathlist? No, but I was going to pick Wendie Jo Sperber for DDP 2006 before she died, although that's arguably not random. Had born-again pornstar Samantha Fox and Michael Palin on one, after a hunger-induced hunch, but they're doing fine the last I heard.

If you can find 20 really cancerous celebs then good luck to you. Remember though that cancer patients are surviving more often and even terminal cancer sufferers are living longer than ever. Godot 149 Posted January 24, 2006 True, cancer isn't what it was. I tend to discount first mention of breast or prostate. But lung cancer is still fairly successful and if it's clear that its travelling.... I have these 10 in my Hartlepool deadlypool cancer ward: 1.Charles Haughey 2.Tammy Faye Messer 3.Ross Davidson 4.Norodom Sihanouk 5.Harold Pinter 6.Alan Bennett 7.Ibrahim Rugova 8.Wendy Richard 9.Scott Hamilton 10. Alex Hurricane Higgins I feel really bad about the picks, have always liked Wendy Richard and am loving Bennett's latest book. In fact I'm sure he will make it clear OK. I'm not sure I have the stomach for this; mind I'm not sure that some of them have either.
