Interessante. Uno dei casi più grandi (IL più grande?) rimasti chiusi.

In my opinion the most important case is the last Auschwitz operator still alive, Helma Kissner (if she is still alive).

Interesting. One of the biggest (THE biggest?) remaining cases closed.

Sommer was the last survivor from this widely spread BBC graphic from 2011.

Any surviving cases now (e.g. possibly Kissner) only came to attention post-2015, and none of them seem to be prominent.

According to wikipedia's list of notable surviving ww2 veterans there are 4 people alive with a wikipedia page who served in the SS.

The only one with an English wikipedia is Gerhard Sommer.

The three others are interesting cases, all Estonian:

Raimund Johannes Piirvee (1923-2011) Forester and ecologist. The Estonian wiki for some reason hasn't marked him dead, but he died in Canada in 2011: https://www.marshallwdrivercremationandburialservice.ca/obituary/Raimund-Piirvee

https://www.geni.com/people/Raimund-Johannes-Piirvee/6000000064787412834

Hans Ots (1921-2018) Scientist and engineer. Again, the Estonian wiki hasn't marked him dead but he died in Australia in 2018:

https://www.geni.com/people/Hans-Ots/6000000027669742316

Ülo Lepik (born 1921) Mathematician and academian. Much more active and alive than the two others, even has a linkedin page and contact info, including his email

So actually there are only two.

Actually there's still two. Hardy Kruger (1928-2022), German actor/author was conscripted into the SS in March 1945. He refused to kill a group of American soldiers and was sentenced to death, therefore can't really count him as a "nazi"

Who's still alive from Prophet's February list? Veikko Kasslin and Irmgard Furchner seem to be the only ones who are still alive and have not died off-radar (unless it has happened very lately in Kasslin's case)

Hoffmeister, Helma Kissner, Johann Robert Riss, Aksel Andersen and Helmuth Rasboel? High chances that many of these have died off-radar.

Gerhard Sommer, Alfred Stork, Helmut Oberlander and Friedrich Karl Berger are definitely dead.

The possible additions to Prophet's list:

Jacob Luitjens (1919-2022)

Kurt Gosdek (1919-Dead, unknown. Source.)

Josef Schutz (1920-2023)

Ulo Lepik (1921-2022)

Herbert Wahler (1921-)

Hilde Michnia (1922-Dead, ca. 2020)

Harry Paul Fritz Schultz (1925-last confirmed alive in 2017?)

Hilde Michnia (1922-) Current whereabouts unknown

Ulla Jürß (1923-?) Current whereabouts unknown, could be dead

Harry Paul Fritz Schultz (1925-)

Ulla Jürß?! She was last confirmed alive 30 years ago!

If you're going that far down the rabbit hole (please no), you may as well just list all the female concentration camp personnel from here that are missing a date of death.

We need to be sensible about this. Anyone who has been confirmed alive within the last 10-15 years is worth looking at. Otherwise they're almost certainly deceased.

In this forum I have not found any reference to this proceeding dated December 2018 against Hans Werner H. (95 years old at the time), former SS guard of the Mauthausen concentration camp.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.timesofisrael.com/german-court-says-not-enough-evidence-to-try-alleged-nazi-camp-guard/amp/

In this other article dated February 2021 it is said that "Prosecutors are examining a further dozen cases against former Nazi or SS staff who worked at Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen, Neuengamme or MAUTHAUSEN camps, according to the national broadcaster ARD." So, he may still be alive today..

"There is a case at the Erfurt Prosecutor's Office in relation to the Buchenwald concentration camp; three on Neuruppin, two on Ravensbrück and one on Sachsenhausen; one in Hamburg and the other in Zelle, on Neuengamme; and two others in the Zelle and Berlin Public Prosecutions, against former guards of a prisoner of war camp.

In addition, the Central Office of the Judicial Administrations for the Clarification of the Crimes of National Socialism, based in Ludwigsburg, has yet to decide whether to transfer another six cases to the corresponding Public Prosecutions."

I wrote to Efraim Zuroff on Facebook and he kindly replied. He said that Hilde Michnia is dead (Maybe 2020?) and about Helma Kissner he is not sure.

I watched his documentary on the BBC about 10 years ago. It’s also on Netflix now to watch if anyone is interested.

I personally think the man is nuts and is fighting a pointless cause, yet the vile anti-Semitism he faced when visiting South America in the documentary was horrible to watch.

SS-Rottenführer Veikko Kasslin dead.

Died on the 19th of November at the age of 102, he was (probably) the last living Finnish iron cross recipient. Two Finnish SS volunteers remain, names not mentioned in that post.

The Hamburg public prosecutor's office is investigating a former security guard (95) at the Neuengamme concentration camp on suspicion of complicity in murder. According to information from the Hamburg Journal on NDR television, the investigations are being delayed due to the corona pandemic, as the suspect's ability to be questioned cannot currently be determined.

New name: Herbert Wahler.

He is 99 years old and he was a member of Einsatzgruppe C, which systematically shot dead tens of thousands of defenceless Jewish children, women and men in the atrocity in Ukraine. He is the last living veteran of the SS death squad behind the Babyn Yar massacre.

Herbert Mahler turns 100, an occasion which seems to have sparked protests outside his house.

It really is a perverse World when so many innocent children die in childhood but a character like this makes it to 100.

Yeah, they are. Efraim Zuroff's post, 12th of December 2021:

It took the German authorities 17 months to check the list, which they informed me included three people alive in Germany, all of whom had served in Einsatzgruppe C.

I received the news with a mixture of joy and trepidation. Joy that at least three were alive, trepidation that they might not live long enough to be prosecuted – which is why I sometimes find myself praying for the good health of Nazis who might be prosecuted). In the meantime, my fears turned out to be well-founded and Kurt Gosdek and Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Hoffmeister have already died without being brought to justice.
