Guest Jimmy Fitzsimmons Posted January 16, 2005 Jake LaMotta was a professional fighter, with a chin of granite and heart bigger than a lion! A man who feared no fighter in the ring nor man on the street. A figher who beat the best of the best in his day. A man who learned what the word "comeback" was all about later in life. He fought all commers and then some. Hail to the Ragging Bull!!! My kind of fighter bar none.
Guest Dinny Posted January 16, 2005 I just don't know how anyone could not like Raging Bull. I just watched it again last night and Robert Di Niro did an amazing job in that film. He deserved every inch of that academy award for the roll he portrayed. I was aware of the fighting Jake LaMotta did but never really watched him fight as I wasn't a fight buff at that age, I was in high school at the time, or perhaps grammar school, but still, the movie was amazing to me. Except for the parts where he was beating his wife. That was disturbing, obviously Jake was a bull, a real horible person who deserved everything he got after he was champ, I mean the jail and the desertion of his family, but the acting DiNiro did was still amazing! How could you not agree with that?

How could you not agree with that? I have problems regarding Martin Scorsese movies, I can't stand most of them. I saw Raging Bull and I heard all the hype about how great it is and blah blah blah and I was just bored, I wanted it to end, the pain of watching it was unbearable. Your criticism of "Raging Bull" is tainted by the fact that you dislike most of the work of one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. You obviously have no taste, nor do you possess any appreciation of true brilliance. Your personal favorites are likely to be "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "Jaws: The Revenge". Revel in your ignorance. honez 79 Posted January 31, 2005 Revel in your ignorance. We all revel in our own ignorance. If we weren't ignorant to a large degree we'd go mad. No-one knows everything about everything. Even you. I suspect you may not have postulated a solution to Fermat's Last Theorem, or come up with string theory, or are not a brain surgeon. But because you happen to like films that M. Scorsese has made, you believe this somehow elevates you above other "ignorant" people, who happen to disagree with you. This sounds wrong to me. I am better than you because I like this/do this and you are inferior because you do not. I'd say you're the one with the problem, not IYG.

But did you know that Raging Bull which was the second movie I watched by Scorsese (Taxi Driver was the first) caused my dislike for him? I'll admit I like certain Scorsese movies but most of them are on my dislike list. I'll also admit to liking Gone in 60 Seconds but that's because of Angelina Jolie and even the great Michael Caine couldn't save Jaws: The Revenge.
Typhoid Harry 23 Posted February 2, 2005 (edited) BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Boxer Jake LaMotta's ex-wife has died. The former middleweight champ's marriage to Brooklyn-born beauty Vicki LaMotta was portrayed in the film "Raging Bull." She was 75 years old. Her family says she died in a hospital in Boca Raton, Florida, about six months after undergoing open heart surgery. In the movie, Robert DeNiro plays the boxer who is obsessed with his young wife, played by Cathy Moriarty. The real Vicki LaMotta posed nude for Playboy in 1981, when she was 51 years old -- saying she did it to show life doesn't end at 30. LaMotta later lent her name to a cosmetics line, made commercials and appeared on television and at fight arenas. Husbands often follow closely after wives... Guest matthew Posted April 12, 2005 maybe everyone here has forgotten that jake lamotta isnt just a character in a movie. the topic was jake lamotta not raging bull. and i dont understand why anyone would think it was cool if he died, you put your post on the internet about him, does anyone post about you? jake lamotta cant be that bad of a guy because raging bull was based on a book that HE wrote, therefore he would have to know that he was a monster or he would have never portrayed himself like that. Gunjaman5000 30 Posted May 4, 2005 It would be something if Lamotta passed this year. In the boxing catagory we would be 2 for 2... but what are the odds? 2 to 1 on that he throws it in the 86th round.
