Either you've just repaired the stairs in Bruce Forsyth's house, or Phantom's told you which new album he's obtained. Am I right? I'm not a stair fitter and I don't know Phantom that well. I feel it in my fingers, I feel in my toes. Death is all around me and so the feeling grows. That sounds ominous. Perhaps you need to check your own stairs -

I don't think Vince Clarke is gay? I thought he was married with children. Not that that proves anything of course, he might be bi, but still. He was a good sport to do this, because you just know it was Andy's idea

So if must of use know, why bother to post it again? I daresay there's a thread for agony aunts somewhere anyway. why bother posting Paul Daniel's cancer agin. Why post Sidney poilters poor aging but if you must ask it's because I don't want to repeat this year by forgetting a shit load of celebs with cancer i.e Dan heggerty and Pat Harrington. Well, keep a fucking list then, like the rest of us do. This forum is not your personal note pad. Any chance you could pm me your 2017 list Toast? This business of doing any work is what has prevented me from submitting a team on time the past couple of years. I mean obviously I'd make a few changes, that can't be too much effort. Actually the offer is open to anyone. Certainly, do you want it now or in December? Come on, it's hardly time consuming. It's just a matter of keeping a list. It can be a word doc on your PC, a piece of paper in your wallet, or the back of a fag packet. Whenever you come across a possible candidate while browsing DL, or elsewhere, you simply add the name eg "Denise Robertson". Then cross them out when they inevitably die before the starting date

My brother bought me Erasures '40 Pop Hits' CD for my birthday. One of my 'guilty pleasures', them and Depeche Mode. I must be a subconscious Vince Clarke fan methinx. Guilty pleasure, really? I wouldn't put either in that category. Erasure, yes.. with me being a heterosexual chap.. as most of Erasures fans consist of camp-chappies & sweet ladies who believe they can 'turn' Andy Bell. But having grown up during the 1980s, I did prefer the UK synth-pop tunes by the likes of Erasure, Depeche Mode, Human League, Howard Jones, O.M.D & most pop-orientated stuff that goes against the stereotype that most men who are now in their late 40s were fans of Dire Straits/Springsteen/Queen around 30 years ago. Though I've always had a soft spot for Madonna & Kylies pre-2006 material. Must be me feminine side. Now, where's me cowboy boots, braces & fake bushy moustache ?? Erasure my guilty pleasure, yes.. but a damn good one !! (I even bought a Jaki Graham 7" single in 1986 !) This must be a bloke thing, cos I've heard this sort of thing before - but never from women. If you like somebody's music, why should their sexual orientation cause you embarrassment? As a straight woman, I don't feel uncomfortable about liking, for instance, Dusty Springfield or Joan Armatrading. Or Freddie Mercury, since you mentioned Queen

The film was The man Who Fell to Earth - I thought it was quite good. It was a couple of years after the Lulu song but he would probably have been filming when it came out That's very kind of you Sir but I got it completely fucking wrong!! I suppose he must have sold the world after he fell to earth. -

I think this is as good a place as any to have a bit of a rant about this whole "what first attracted you to multi-millionaire Paul Daniels" thing that gets trotted out ad infinitum whenever he is mentioned, or whenever two people with an age gap and a wealth gap get married these days. So here we go: 1) When they first met, Debbie had more money than he did (see her interview in the Telegraph a while back). He was preparing for his first major TV show at the age of 40 and had been a struggling entertainer for many years, so was nowhere near being a mllionaire or multi-millionaire. She was only 21 but had had a successful dancing career up to that point, including a stint in Tehran at the Iranian national ballet. She was a graduate of the Royal Ballet School, and is from a middle class family, so not short of money. 2) They got married 9 years after they met. So hardly like Kylie (just engaged to a 28yo she's known a few months) or Stephen Fry, or Catherine Zeta-Jones or hundreds of others. 3) They're still together after 28 years of marriage, and knowing each other for 37 years. Probably longer than 95% of showbiz marriages. 4) Caroline Aherne, denizen of many DDP teams (who was Mrs Merton and in 1995 did the show with McGee) had herself just got married to Peter Hook, bassist of New Order in 1994. Let's for the sake of argument, call him "famous multi-millionaire bassist" Peter Hook, and ask what first attracted her. 5) Caroline Aherne's marriage to Peter Hook ended in 1997, after 3 years. it is not known how much of his estate she took in the divorce. So what is the point of this rant? I'm not entirely sure. I don't know either of them, perhaps they are both horrible unpleasant people. They said both the Mrs Merton show and the later Louis Theroux show gave them big career boosts. So it obviously doesn't bother them very much. But it bothers me because the whole thing is just so ridiculous and factually wrong, and every time I see it on my computer screen in the comments sections I want to put my foot through the screen and send the bill to Caroline Aherne. Perhaps some people feel the same about whenever Captain Pugwash is mentioned, some smart arse comes along and says "haha snort snort did you know they had a character called Roger the Cabin Boy and another one called Seaman Staines snort snort just imagine eh lolz" when of course none of those characters were actually in the programme, it was made up later by someone having a laugh. /end of rant. I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure that the Mrs Merton show was a spoof. In other words, it was a joke. That said, the line may well be "trotted out ..... whenever two people with an age gap and a wealth gap get married" - but often the accompanying derision is well deserved.

Tom Bailey had his own band, I think. He certainly had quite an elaborate light show. I would have enjoyed his set earlier in the evening, but as a closing act we found it a bit depressing as the Thompson Twins songs tend to be a bit downbeat. I want something a bit more cheerful to finish. But yes, there is a house band and very good they are too. Not going this year as there's nobody I'm keen to see that I haven't seen before. They have Andy Bell as one headliner, I would probably go if Vince was there as well. Either they won't pay them enough, or Vince doesn't want to do it. I'd rather go and see Erasure next time they tour instead.

I know what it means, I just hate jargon. We used to call that sort of thing "taking advantage of (whoever)".

He was also the keyboardist in the New Radicals. Apparently the dreamer's disease isn't curable. Aye, sad, bit partial to the B52s back in the day. It's sad, but Paul Gordon only started playing with them 9 years ago. So it was well after their heyday. They headlined the Rewind South festival about 3 years ago and were absolutely dreadful. I didn't go, but watched a live stream and was pleased I hadn't missed much. Friends there said they were awful, as did most of the regulars on FB etc. They had no rapport with the audience whatsoever. I saw the highlights of it, they just came out, sang their hits and that was it. There were other artists/bands that performed thart were known for only 1 or 2 songs that had more of a connection with the crowd and for them it was the biggest moment of their lives since their popularity waned. Some of them are eyeopeners. For instance, Rick Astley always puts on a terrific show and is hugely popular. With the B52s, I felt that there was a lot of in-jokes going on amongst themselves. As I wasn't actually there, I thought it might have just been me feeling excluded, but my friends said exactly the same afterwards. I saw the highlights of the 2014 and 2015 festivals. and I was surprised to see Hugh Cornwell on the line-up as he's still gigging, touring and releasing solo albums. It's not all has-beens and one-hit wonders. You also get the likes of Marc Almond and Midge Ure who are still touring and recording. When OMD reformed, they wouldn't do a "nostalgia" festival until they'd done a tour of their own and proved to themselves that they still had a dedicated audience. Now they do both. I think some artists worry that appearing at this type of festival will eat into their own tour audience figures, but I've been to see quite a few after seeing them at festivals, so I think it can work the other way too.

Being "blind and stuff" (deaf, wasn't it?) doesn't kill you. Unless it causes you to suffer a fatal accident, which is presumably why she was in a care home latterly. As for the "elder abuse" (who the hell thinks up these phrases) my guess is that was all part of the controversy about the "new" book.

As far as I remember, there wasn't much evidence of illness, plus the longevity of her sister may have been a factor.

Only one board is private. And it hasn't been used yet, I bet you didn't know there's a secret board on DL. Mod forum, I'd guess. Doesn't everywhere have one? I expect so, but that's not what I meant. -
