    Carry On Dying

Was that the "big breaths" scene? Barbara Windsor's boobs were not really up to their reputation, were they. Elsewhere, Fenella Fielding looks terrifying, and doesn't Gaby Roslin look old.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I've started watching it on spike. It's a bit of a slow burner at the beginning but it's been picking up lately. The first series & a half are pretty so-so - picks up considerably as the Gus Frink storyline develops, and Aaron Paul is pretty good too.I asked my friends on Facebook if it would be worth sticking with it or not. The majority of my American friends said to stick with it. So I am. Really, if I wasn't grabbed after 15 episodes ...... It was quite funny at the beginning. The bit very early on, where he tried to dissolve a body in an acid bath and it all fell through the floor, was hilarious, but after that it was boring, same stuff every time. Also I found it very hard to understand what people said most of the time. I just couldn't be arsed with it any more.

I watched one and a half series of 'Breaking Bad' recently. I was bored shitless. What do people see in it? Apart from the photography which is wonderful.

    The English Language

I don't remember if I've complained here before about this, but it really riles me. A half-sibling being described as a step sibling. There's a big difference, and an important one. If I mention this, some ignoramus usually pipes up and says, "Yes, but it can be used to mean either." Well, just because it can, that doesn't mean it should. It's yet another example of the richness of the English language, and its capacity for expressing a precise meaning, being eroded by ignorant fools.

    Life In Prison

"She was released from prison two years ago, after serving nearly 30 years" so not sure how she's saved the taxpayers money.

This was reported weeks ago. It's only in the DM today because some paparazzo managed to get a snap of him out and about.

    Dead Pop Stars

Well, that has made me sad. Jimmy Page played on 'Terry', and Twinkle's other hit, 'Golden Lights' was covered by The Smiths.

    The Dead Of 2015

She only sold 300,000 poppies in 76 years? If she had a 5-day-week and worked about 200 days each year, then that's 15200 days of work in 76 years, or about 20 poppies each day. Hmm... is it custom to buy just one of them or several at once? If the latter is the case, then that rate is indeed a bit poor... It's worse than that - the article says 30,000. But anyway - it doesn't work like that. Poppies are only sold for a limited period each year: usually from around 27 October to Remembrance Sunday or 11 November. So only a couple of weeks. I am a poppy seller, but I wouldn't have the faintest idea how many I've sold in ten years.

    Political Frailty

Heh, thanks, I was puzzled about the words "boozer", "nick" and "dodgy sirup". "Nick" in this context is really a tautology. I would probably say "Look at the state of that geezer" but all it means is "Look at that geezer's appearance". "Look at that geezer" is all that is needed. Boozer is a common synonym for public house. Booze means alcoholic drink. 'Dodgy' can mean illegal, or counterfeit. Here it means that the wig is so badly made, or so inappropriate in style, that it is entirely unconvincing.

Sorry, gc - here's a translation of some of the more vernacular phrases: Here's where I am with wigs This is my opinion about wigs If that bloke walked into a boozer without the syrup on If that man walked into a pub (or bar) without the wig on no one would bat an eyelid. no one would particularly notice him If he walked in to a boozer like he looks in these pictures, everyone would say "look at the nick of that geezer in the dodgy syrup". Look at that man wearing a ridiculous wig If I was bald, I know what I'd rather look like. "Syrup" is rhyming slang for wig. It is short for "syrup of figs" (a laxative) which rhymes with wig.

There were many others that subjected us to terrible comedy shows and acts. Cannon & Ball, The Krankies, Russ Abbot.. to name just a few, Sad to say, this was often referred to as "quality television". It's like when they introduce some old biddy on a chat or panel show and introduce her as "the lovely...." I never watched any of this shite. There was another option, reading, and I read a lot, usually free of charge via the library. And I never found Morecambe and Wise remotely funny either. They were just as childish and farcical as those mentioned, but they relied on having incongruous guests who were willing to have the piss taken out of them. For some reason people found this amusing. I found them just silly and boring. The library was always free of charge for me too, I read a lot, but also occasionally would take a break from that. Even looking back at some of the shows that I used to laugh at as a kid, now I can't understand why. Out of the comedy double acts around at the time, Morecombe & Wise were one of the best. I suppose I just don't like that kind of act. The only exception that springs to mind is the Two Ronnies, but there you had brilliant writing, and great comic timing.

I believe the creator of the Lamaze birthing method was Dr. Fernand Lamaze. Bing, however the co-founder of Lamaze International. If she had created the method, along with the co-founder of Lamaze International, then it would be either the Bing Birthing Method, or the Karmel-Bing Birthing Method Is there a Google Birthing Method?

THATS the obit link attached? Besides a nice telly number I can prank call from the States, it doesn't say anything this guy 'famously' did (or even so much as mention AM). Oh I could confirm on Wiki surely---that's not what we do here. Don't be presumptuous. Only Willie Wilson I ever heard of played some fine centerfield for the KC Royals. ;-) SC Appreciated. But it's definitely his obit. Nothing more substantial I could find, but I'll keep looking and update like I always do if I discover something better. Not much better, but still: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/190685/wilson-william-angus-walter-mbe KC Royals? Sounds delicious. That's not an obituary, it's a death notice. It's like a classified ad - people pay to have these announcements published. There is a difference.

If I had a say, I would combine them all into two topics, Classical Music and Popular Music, to include singers, musicians, composers, songwriters, conductors et al. There are way too many topics on here, it wastes time and it makes it difficult to find things. It also leads to duplication of posts because of overlapping.
