Jürgen Becker has died.

No, not Jürgen Becker the comedian, kabarett artist and actor.

And no, not Jürgen Becker the state secretary.

It's also not Jürgen Becker the jurist and academic.

And no, not Jürgen Becker the theologian.

It's Jürgen Becker the writer and poet.

And when his son dies, things get interesting again, because his name happens to be Boris... but no, not this one...

He was picked in 2023. A classic.

As mentioned in the Dying Bigots thread, German Holocaust denialist and Neo-Nazi activist Ursula Haverbeck has died at age 96.

For the D-A-CH-List, she is considered another miss because we included her on the first two lists in 2021 and 2022.

But ultimately it is certainly a death that we are all "happy" with. One Nazi less.

Argh! Another miss for the D-A-CH-List (picked last year, dropped this year):

German actor and voice actor Jürgen Thormann has died at 96. He was best known for being the German voice of Michael Caine, Ian McKellen or Peter O'Toole.

Damn, our list could have gone up to 15 hits or so with a perfect selection. Though of course, getting them all correct was statistically extremely unlikely.

Real name Franz Seeberger.

Fun Fact: Tony Marshall sang the German version of this song, called "Auf der Straße nach Süden". It peaked at No. 41 on the German charts, while Seaberg reached No. 16.

We don't need to talk about Hasselhoff; his version was No. 1 for 8 weeks and the hit of the year in 1989. Meh.

I mentioned elsewhere I was in Berlin for a week at the end of last month - Germany really isn't doing its reputation any favours by having two completely separate commercial campaigns currently running featuring Hasselhoff and "Looking for Freedom".

I totally agree with you and I never understood the German fascination with Hasselhoff!
