Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway

Recommended Posts

Mette-Marit suffers from "an unusual variant of pulmonary fibrosis", diagnosed in 2018. It has been suspected that it might be linked to an autoimmune disease. Pulmonary fibrosis is unpredictable, incurable and can only be slowed somewhat.

She has suffered from complications now and then - Swedish media reported her to be "seriously ill" back in 2021 and she was on a long sick leave late last year. A couple of months later she was too unwell to attend the annual Christmas celebration at Oslo Palace in December. Earlier this month it was announced that she'd restarted/changed her treatment. She has seemed quite well in recent events but has mentioned she runs out of breath very easily, and her poor health might be delaying her and Haakon's accession.

Today it has been announced she's on a sick leave and has cancelled all her appointments due to complications from her new treatment, with rumors going around she's doing much worse than they're letting us know.

Would this not be best posted in the non-British royals thread? I'm not sure she needs one of her own.

Why not? A-list and the future Queen of Norway if she outlives Harald, terminally ill for the last six years, health updates becoming much more frequent, Epstein connection that we might hear about later, crazy cocaine addict son. Very underrated name here.

The "fits perfectly well in another thread" argument could be used for nearly all of the individual threads on this site.

None of that can't be accommodated in the Non-British Royals thread.

a preliminary charge of having "sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act".......

......The charge was brought by the police, not the woman who was allegedly raped, according to her lawyer ......

...... Details are unclear but police said there was "a relationship between the suspect and the victim".

Sounds like a domestic rather than violent stranger rape.  (Yes, I consider there is a huge difference.)

Shagged the girlfriend while she was asleep or drunk?

A rape is a rape. There are situations more violent than others but it doesn’t depend on wether it’s coming from a stranger or your husband. Domestic rape can be violent too, you should follow the Pelicot trial for example. I’m not sure there are « better » rape than others to suffer, it depends on individual reactions and characters.

I disagree entirely.  There is an enormous gulf between being violently attacked and raped by some hideous stinking stranger who jumps out of a dark alley, and your partner making love to you when you didn't really feel like it because you were too tired or had a headache or whatever.  Yet we are now conditioned to regard these as equal.  It is nonsense.

This is not rape. Rape is when you say no or express disagreement and the thing still happens. What you describe is some implicit and vague compromise that everyone once in a while does in a relationship. Rape in a couple exists, should be taken seriously and this is absolutely not what you describe. Again, refer to the ongoing Pelicot trial for example.

This is a myth that rape is only commited by stranger in a dark alley. 80-90% of rapes (or something like that ?) are commited by relatives. and still they are subject to criminal conviction.

Exactly. But people are now being influenced and encouraged to regard it as rape.

No, it isn't and I'm pleased that you agree with me.

The Pelicot case is egregious.

That's not what I said.

Anyway I am not going to discuss this any further.  I won't be moved from my opinion that there are degrees of severity, just as there are in cases of causing bodily harm or death.
