A good list! I might add Andy Griifith, Dick Clark, Jesse Helms, Dolores Hope, and maybe a former president not on the current list (Carter, Bush I, and Clinton).

Miep Gies, Sheltered Anne Frank's family, born 1909

Interesting suggestion.

As an aside: last week Dr. Lou de Jong, the Dutch war historian, died. He was world famous here, but next to unknown outside the Netherlands. I knew his health was deteriorating, but I didn't suggest him to Deathlist.net, because of the famousness test.

I suppose Mrs. Gies will pass...

regards,

Hein

I didn't realise the Dutch were almost as blinkered as USAns when it comes to defining the world as the country you live in. :(

Well done, you spotted my little joke.

I could have put in a smiley, but that's much like people who tell tell a joke and ask: "Got it?"

Hein

How about a 'sector' based group of lists for next year in addition to the main 50.

For example:

Top 20 Acting types

Top 20 Politicos

Top 20 Scientists

Top 20 Artists

Top 20 Religious Types

Top 20 Famous for being famous

Firstly it gives us more scope, and a nice side bet on which group is suffering most at the hands of the Reaper?

For the life of me, I can't figure out why so many DeathListers have suggested adding the Queen's name to the 2006 list. Yes, she will be 80 next year, but she appears quite well, and if she's anything like her mother, may be on the throne for another 20 to 25 years.

Think you can take Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe of the list - he died in August.

Is Brooke Astor barred if she makes it to 2006? If not, get the 103 year old down. I've bet and lost money on her sorry ass and now it's kinda personal.

Having backed Astor to be the next death since July, I second MPFCs request that she be on DL 2006.

But then again, this is not a democracy. :P

Brooke Astor represents the type of difficult decision GR must make. She's old but perfectly healthy for her age... so there's really just a 50-50 chance she could die next year. On one hand, it'll look bad if she dies and she's not on the list. On the other, there are many unhealthy candidates for the list... albeit none quite so old as Ms. Astor.

It should be an interesting list next year...
