Banshees Scream 110 Posted July 5, 2005 Just checked Chuck's official website, and it appears he's still performing one-nighters at the age of nearly 79. I reckon he'll go the day after he has to give up doing his show. Well a day may be a bit sudden. He doesen't seem to have any life threatning health problums. Though for the future sometime he may be one to watch.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted July 5, 2005 Interesting speculation for the moment though, who'll go first. Him or Bo Diddley? Re Chuck's 'alleged' perversions. There's a graphic description of the contents of a video involving him, a willing female partner much younger than him and Chuck's very peculiar fascination with sharing his bodily functions during sex. Worth reading in 'Rock Bottom' by Pamela Des Barres and it's noticable that the book did well in the USA without Chuck even threatening legal action.
M.Lawrenson 11 Posted July 6, 2005 I had read somewhere (probably Q magazine) that he'd set up cameras in the womens' toilets in a restaurant he owns and had in his possession videotapes recorded from the above cameras. 'Alleged' is covering both the forum's and my backs. Can Chuck manage to do his patented 'duck walk' these days?

maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted July 6, 2005 Dad: This is grim and I've never seen the tape but I'd refer you to Pamela Des Barres book. At one point in the section on Chuck Pamela discusses his fairly well known sexual proclivities with reference to a tape she'd seen. In this tape Chuck has fairly normal sex with a groupie and then urinates on her whilst holding a conversation 'How's that piss taste...salty ain't it,' before reversing the roles, placing his face near her bottom and announcing it's time for his breakfast. I trust you get the gist. Then again, it may be the secret to along and active life in rock. I mean, the man is nearly eighty and still gigging.

The old rocker's sweepstakes stands like this Chuck Berry - b. 18th Oct 1926 (78) Fats Domino - b. 26th Feb 1928 (77) Bo Diddley - b. 30th Dec 1928 (76) Jerry Lee Lewis - b. 29th Sep 1935 (69) Little Richard - b. 5th Dec 1935 (69) As far as I know, they're all still performing. maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted August 3, 2005 It was more than his private life when the law got involved. He lost a fan or two amongst the women he'd videod going to the toilet at his seedy little theme park. How about we combine our view of him and yours and call him a 'Pervert Legend?' Rotten Ali 600 Posted October 15, 2006 I would have expected someone to have picked up on the BBC2 Newsnight report on Chuck Berry during this last week. Since he is turning 80, they sent a top music editior & tv crew to track down the old guy and see what he was upto. Well, in the end found that CB was indead going to do another small gig in his own home town of Missouri. Did an interview with his son and daughter, and were asked not to film him but came away with some still photos of the event. He looked moderatley well and if it were indeed a whole set then Chuck does indead have quite a few more years in front of him to look forward to.

maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted October 15, 2006 One thing that's kept Chuck going is is relatively low work rate on stage. As a rule for over thirty years now, he plays less than an hour, virtually always avoids encores and uses pick up bands to run through the same old greatest hits routine, with a few guitar solos thrown in. Less a full-blown gig and more a gentle stroll.
Guest Guest Posted October 18, 2006 I saw Chuck play this summer in St. Louis and have to say the man still has it goin on! Yes, the show was about an hour, but it didn't matter. It was Chuck F'in Berry! Living legend.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted October 18, 2006 Cheers Chuck, nice of you to drop in. The ageing rocker who runs through a predictable and messy set of ancient songs and avoids encores no matter how dedicted the crowd is obviously someone else.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted October 20, 2006 Bo Diddley, another ageing blues/rocker - 78 in December - a man noted for giving his all in a gig, not shortchaning audiences. Note the level of activity on his news page. It'll be a nail-biter of WW1 veterans vs Titanic survivor dimensions as to whether Bo or Chuck peg out first. King may beat them both. I'm not in the mood at the moment to look for the article, but he's 81, admittedly slowing down (rightfully so), is in increasing discomfort and his head isn't as clear as it used to be. From what I hear of the man, he's as pleasant as they get and for me, a joy to listen to.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted October 29, 2006 BB's older than the pair of them and he's lived a healthier life - mentally - than f**ked up Chuck. Might count for summat in the longevity stakes. When yer body gives out yer mind often makes the final decsion about how long you're around.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted April 25, 2008 He's coming to Maryport.
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted April 25, 2008 Correction: He's booked to come to Maryport. Whether or not he shows up on stage depends on his being paid, upfront, in cash. A (late) friend did a tour with Mr. Berry, and at all times had to wear a large badge emblazoned with "Chucks' Slave" He had a few tales about shows being blown out due to lack of hard dollars upfront. He's coming to Maryport.
