Crew Of USS Enterprise

Scotty & Bones have both gone. How long left for the others?
They're all in their 70s now, so there might be some possible candidates for next year.

In the words of Scotty himself 'Id rather be teleporting'

Rest in peace among the stars

For reference, DOBs of original cast:

William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk), b. 22 Mar 1931 (Montreal, Canada)

Leonard Nimoy (Lt. Cmdr./Commander Spock), b. 26 Mar 1931 (Boston, USA)

Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand ), b. 1 Apr 1930 (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA)

George Takei (Lt. Hikaru Sulu), b. 20 Apr 1937 (Los Angeles, USA)

Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura), b. 28 Dec 1932 (Robbins, Illinois, USA)

Walter Koenig (Ensign Pavel Chekov), b. 14 Sep 1936 (Chicago, USA)

Majel Barrett (Nurse Christine Chapel), b. 23 Feb 1932 (Columbus, USA)

so Sulu and Chekov not quite 70 yet

I couldn't quite work out if that was a rant, an insult or a compliment on the grounds that it wasn't really English............

so Sulu and Chekov not quite 70 yet

They used a William Shatner Mask in the film Halloween because of the low budget.

More to the point, don't think aluren or Lauren ever appeared in Star Trek, so what's she doing in this thread?!

Born 16 Sep 1924, by the way

Another Trek related individual worth considering is Ed Cassidy (b 4th May 1923) massive baldie about six and a half feet tall who made a notable guest appearance in the show and also has a toe hold on rock fame as the drummer with vastly under-rated Californian psychsters Spirit.

Still alive, which is more than can be said for Spirit's singer/guitarist Randy California.

Cassidy's health seems sound.........for an 83 year old with a few late nights and parties to his credit.

Good call, didn't know he was still with us (in spirit.Boom Boom.)

Check out 'Taurus' from 1968 album 'Spirit.' Jimmy Page had certainly heard this when he 'wrote' "Stairway to Heaven"

She was in that episode where Kirk says "Of all the starships in all the universe she beams into mine"

From yesterdays Metro; (Yes I do seem to find copies on the train)

WHERE ARE THE OTHERS?

Leonard Nimoy (Mr Spock) is now 74. He has recently starred in Brave New World on NBC and in The Simpsons

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) has starred in Futurama and 3rd Rock From The Sun. At 74, he is advertising cereal in Britain.

George Takei (Sulu), 68, hosted a US public affairs show in the 1970s. He campaigned to get Sulu made a captain in the sixth Star Trek film in 1991.

Nichelle Nichols (Lieut Uhura) is 72. Her last big role was in 2002's Snow Dogs with Cuba Gooding Jnr.

So there’re all relatively young and in good health, unless any develop major illnesses, it'll be several years before any will be viable candidates for Deathlist.

Anubis: Good call on 'Taurus' shamelessly pillaged for 'Stairway to Heaven.' Ed Cassidy was interviewed - albeit briefly - for Mojo last year when a raft of reissued Spirit was unleashed. Can't see the man as a candidate for action hereabouts for a year or two yet, he's still drumming.

On the subject of contributions to the world of music by members of the StarTrek cast, it would be a crime not to mention William Shatner's classic rendition of "I am a Canadian".

Not to mention Leonard Nimoy singing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"

And definitely not to mention Nimoy's "poetry"

Click That URL At Your Peril!

It's not quite Vogon poetry, but shockingly close. :P

Having bought and savoured Nimoy's excreble tome "Will I Think of You' I'll vouch for the Vogonity of its contents. In fact I once heard a Douglas Adams fan suggesting the idea for Vogon poetry was inspired by the fact that 'Spock' wrote such crap. Another celeb pushing him all the way in the pretentious drivel stakes is Art Garfunkel, an individual so self-obsessed his official site lists every book he's read since the late sixties and the number of pages contained therein.

The link below gets you within range of Art's writing, mainly poems and 'prose poems.' 'Still Water' offers the worst of the drivel...you have been warned!

Art's 'Art'

Looking through his reading list, I spotted one which looked a little odd...

501. Oct. 1989 Art Garfunkel Still Water - Prose Poems 1989 119 pp.

Does he mean he actually read what he was writing??

A very disturbing thought.

I haven't read that stuff yet. My poetry appreciation chair hasn't dried yet.

It's nice to see that amongst such highbrow books as Graham Greenauthor's (sic) The Third Man and some of Aristophanes' more racey work Art has time to read The Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (:P) Stone. It's a shame he hasn't read anymore of Harry's adventures and an even greater shame he hasn't yet read JC Jones' Influx. Perhaps someone should send him a copy.

It gets better. From the quiz

29. Art Garfunkel read this dictionary from cover to cover (all 1,606 pages containing 275,00 words):

  Webster's New World Dictionary

  Random House Dictionary

  Oxford English Dictionary

Reminds me of the man who read the telephone directory. Afterwards he was heard to complain 'Too many characters, not enough plot!' :P

Hein: Trust me, reading the works of Art Garfunkel and poetry appreciation are two activities unlikely to go together.

Years ago I used to wonder why Simon and Garfunkel split at the height of their fame. Then I visited Art's on line love letter to himself and began to understand why their reunion tours tended to allow for separate limos to and from the shows.

I suggest that the next person to happen upon the Deathlist and accuse us of being saddos who don't get out enough should be made to spend fifteen minutes surfing artgarfunkel.com.

Bear in mind Art was a post-grad archictecture student when S&G went pro as singers. So Paul Simon's 'So Long Frank Lloyd Wright" is really a barbed kiss off to Art on the Bridge Over Troubled Water album:

Archictects may come and architects may go

Never change your point of view

When I run dry

I stop a while and think of you.
