maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted July 21, 2005 Another Trek related individual worth considering is Ed Cassidy (b 4th May 1923) massive baldie about six and a half feet tall who made a notable guest appearance in the show and also has a toe hold on rock fame as the drummer with vastly under-rated Californian psychsters Spirit. Still alive, which is more than can be said for Spirit's singer/guitarist Randy California. Cassidy's health seems sound.........for an 83 year old with a few late nights and parties to his credit. Good call, didn't know he was still with us (in spirit.Boom Boom.) Check out 'Taurus' from 1968 album 'Spirit.' He has recently starred in Brave New World on NBC and in The Simpsons William Shatner (Captain Kirk) has starred in Futurama and 3rd Rock From The Sun. At 74, he is advertising cereal in Britain. George Takei (Sulu), 68, hosted a US public affairs show in the 1970s. He campaigned to get Sulu made a captain in the sixth Star Trek film in 1991. Nichelle Nichols (Lieut Uhura) is 72. Her last big role was in 2002's Snow Dogs with Cuba Gooding Jnr. So there’re all relatively young and in good health, unless any develop major illnesses, it'll be several years before any will be viable candidates for Deathlist. Ed Cassidy was interviewed - albeit briefly - for Mojo last year when a raft of reissued Spirit was unleashed. In fact I once heard a Douglas Adams fan suggesting the idea for Vogon poetry was inspired by the fact that 'Spock' wrote such crap. Another celeb pushing him all the way in the pretentious drivel stakes is Art Garfunkel, an individual so self-obsessed his official site lists every book he's read since the late sixties and the number of pages contained therein. It's a shame he hasn't read anymore of Harry's adventures and an even greater shame he hasn't yet read JC Jones' Influx. Perhaps someone should send him a copy. Years ago I used to wonder why Simon and Garfunkel split at the height of their fame. Then I visited Art's on line love letter to himself and began to understand why their reunion tours tended to allow for separate limos to and from the shows. I suggest that the next person to happen upon the Deathlist and accuse us of being saddos who don't get out enough should be made to spend fifteen minutes surfing artgarfunkel.com. Bear in mind Art was a post-grad archictecture student when S&G went pro as singers.
