Guest IYG

I was just looking at the stats on the home page and noticed we had 0ver 300 people on-line at once on the morning of 9th November? Why? What was so special about that day?

Hmm, no one on the DL died that month, interesting.

Maybe there was a full blown orgy here? biggrin.pngwink.pnglaugh.png

Or maybe, because it's exactly a week before my birthday, everyone got excited for some unknown reason. wink.png

There was an orgy and I wasn't invited? Maybe the orgy was for your birthday IYG.

Actually I think I've worked it out. Did either Emlyn Hughes or Fred Dibnah die around then?

The orgy wasn't that good really. I suppose we could have another one sometime if you really want, Inar.

Maybe it's because it was the third anniversary of "9/11" as anyone from a country that can put dates in the right order would tell you...

That might work in theory except for the fact that it was not in numerical but rather in word form.

November 9, 2004 as opposed to 11/09/04. Now if it had been numeric then you might have an almost reasonable although clearly insane arguement of irrationality; however, seeing as how what we have here is the complete month of November being spelled out, your idea falls to the wayside much like cheese to the bottom of the barrel during a typhoon.

November 9 is a pretty unclear way of expressing a date if you ask me.

However saying "November the ninth" or "the ninth of November" leaves nobody in doubt, the second being clearer than the first because it less resembles such formulations as "Willard P. Rickenbacker the Fourth", "George the Sixth" or indeed "Larry Pestilence the Third"

When expressing dates numerically, it is much more logical to keep the numbers in some sort of order, be it ascending or descending, Thus Day/Month/Year must be preferable to Month/Day/Year.

That in a perfect world, but a couple of centuries ago some Americans wanted to be demonstratively different to the British for some reason, so they started holding their cutlery differently and messing around with a perfectly good language, a thing which caught on very quickly and can lead to disagreement among the less tolerant on both sides.

Now don't get me started on what Americans call 9/11. (To me that is a car. I always call it the 11th of September 2001)

One wonders why the US didn't go metric after 1790.

Never?

You should make a point of trying everything once, excepting incest and folk-dancing

What about a BurgerKing?

Or Pizza?

It appears to be disputed with attributions of the "Morris-dancing" version to Malcolm Sargeant, Noel Coward, Thomas Beecham and even Stephen Fry. On balance though and in the face of the evidence offered at the bottom of the following terrifying site, I think you're right :

A morris-dancing webpage....

Never?

Never. Neither the shops nor what is sold as food there seem edible.

I admit to drinking their coffee once. Has anyone tried the packaging?

What about a BurgerKing?

Nope

Or Pizza?

If you mean the abomination that calls itself deceptively "Pizza Hut", that's another no.

I prefer food to cardboard or greasy sawdust innabun.

Hein

I do agree that it expensive for what is really just 'cheese on toast', but when the need arises it can be satisfying.
