You know, it just occurred to me that I never really answered the question, did I?

During the American Civil War there were two major battles at Bull Run (Manassas to my Southern brethren) and, fittingly, they are referred to as the first and second Battle of Bull Run. There is a famous fraud case (immortalized in a childrens' book) where a commemorative sword, supposedly awarded shortly after the first battle, but before the second, was sold to a collector for an absurd amount. The collector failed to realize it was a fake, even though the engraving referred to the 1st Battle of Bull Run and was dated before anyone could have known there would be a second.

He used to be very good at beating the crap out of other people (who were also very good at beating the crap out of other people). In fact, the better they were, the more he'd love to beat the crap out of them.

He was good like that.

He used to like to share his love of boxing around--you wouldn't even have to ask; he'd just show you how good he was with his fists.

That's how nice he was.

I never knew the story of Max Schmeling until last night when I watched it on the History Channel. I was very impressed by his story and what a man he was, not just an athletic champion, but a true Human Champion also. I was fascinated by the fact that a man who lived thru much History and was part of it is still alive and that he had a happy life, which he deserved. I can not believe the world has forgotten him and that really makes you think, here is a man who was at he center of world history and survived it s most horrible times and retained his Humanity and Dignity. Boy he is Man at his Best...I hope his spirit lives on for Ever

Well we've had the debate before and we've all learned that Max is pretty courageous guy and quite an anti-Nazi hero...however the point that cannot be disputed is that Hilter certainly tried to use him for his own objectives and, frankly, if DL readers weren't sure who he was, the description jogs the minds perfectly.
