IKYWN 6 Posted November 28, 2004 Another BBC DJ kicks the bucket> I wonder who will be next? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/t...dio/4050341.stm
Cerberus 304 Posted November 29, 2004 Alan "Fluff" Freeman gets my vote. Not a good year for BBC radio. Alastair Cooke, Hubert Gregg, Peely and now John Dunn. I used to quite like JD's show. Long before I became a Radio 2 listener, I used to hear his show in the car on the way home from various trips and holidays. It used to come before (or after) something called "Waggoners Walk" (Radio 2's answer to "The Archers"
Poetry Man 2 Posted November 29, 2004 I liked John Dunn and remember him from my paper round days. He used to be on the wireless at 5.30am - and at that time, was the only thing on the wireless at 5.30am. He and Ray Moore were the best, hope they are both having a good natter now. RIP JD

Bah; new fangled term. What's wrong with listening to the Crystal Set anyway?
Slave to the Grave 26 Posted November 30, 2004 No Teddy, I consider myself to be knocking on a bit. In my young days they were always referred to as 'Trannys', I think before the term became more widely used elsewhere. My Nan used to refer to her radiogram as the 'wireless' though. Teddy 21 Posted November 30, 2004 Reminds me of the metaphysical poet, John Donne, he of the 'no man is an island' sermon. After falling out with his wife, Anne, he apparently wrote a little ditty... 'John Donne, Anne Donne, Undone' I know a certain Lib Dem MP who could do with reading some John Donne poetry
Typhoid Harry 23 Posted November 30, 2004 I've always chaffed over the "metaphysical" label as a French invention. "Let us write with such obfuscation as that only the enlightened will perceive our greatness." It's "The Emperor's New Clothes" manifested. Donne was a gifted poet conflicted by his zealous religious upbringing and his logical mind; guess which side won, and became demented in the process? /professor mode
