YoungWillz 21,046 Posted May 15, 2020 Too much time on my hands, apparently. Don't think I can be of much help regarding the outstanding ones, I'd have to go back and start from A again! Squeezing Colin Green for info would unlock a whole lot. I assume you are going to do new A-Z for following decades. That first page is going to get awfully clunky with 60s band line ups who change in the 1970s and it might become a complete monster to track when researching if it trickles into the 1980s. Since the last update I posted, other than completing the letters M and S, I added quite a few featured artists to other letters but I think only three had missing info: Millard Thomas (Harry Belafonte's long time guitarist), The Curls and The Clark Brothers. I will contact Colin Green, he seems to have been in quite a few of these outfits and could probably help loads. I'm not sure what to do with the next lot yet. I will definitely do just the 1970s first, rather than lumped together with another decade like this was. I was thinking of going on GoDaddy tonight, buying a web page and making a start on 70s "A" there. I suppose I could just post a message/appeal for info here each time I've updated the site with a new letter? Would save some middlestepping/congestion in this thread.

Ulitzer95 12,620 Posted May 20, 2020 Right, 1970s, because why not. Got nothing better to do under lockdown. I'll post these sporadically every now and then. If people want to view them all in one place, there's a website in the pipeline. I'll need to revise this at a later point as there are so many blanks. YoungWillz 21,046 Posted May 20, 2020 The Angelettes. I appreciate your difficulty here, as the girls were all (apart from Sue) under 18 at the time of the record. Now helpfully, Julie Abbot (Hammersley) has her own webpage with a little more information: https://joolshammersley.com/jools and her hubby Michael also: https://michaelhammersley.com/about-the-author so I'd say they are likely resident in Cheshire. This clipping is also helpful: http://www.spectropop.com/Angelettes/full/full11.htm and if we tie that in with the Wiki which indicates The Angelettes appeared on TOTP on 27 April 1972: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_performers_on_Top_of_the_Pops Then what we get is Jan (17), Patricia (17) and Susan (18) all attending Levenshulme High School in Manchester and Julie (17) attending Bury Grammar. That puts their dobs somewhere in the region of 1953-1955.

Ok so here's what I got with this. Julie Abbott b. 1955, Pat Fitzgerald b. 1955. Assuming that Jan = Janet or Janette... didn't help at all. There were loads of Heywoods. So going by the ages above safer to put it as c. 1955 for now. Sue Hampson opens a whole different can of worms. Under the years 1953–1955 there's several ppl who could be her. However, what's ever more puzzling is her death. Online it's said she died around 1998. I can't find her in the GRO because I'd need her married name. Searched on Ancestry instead. Nothing by the way of official records, but there is this. Could she or the studio have knocked a few years off her age for image purposes? I will email Julie Abbott.
YoungWillz 21,046 Posted May 20, 2020 Cool stuff, think I'm done with my researches for the As, too many dead ends becoming one huge circle.

Yes, I'm finding this harder to do than the 50s/60s. Obituaries make all the difference for information, and the majority of performers from the 70s are still with us. That and because I think there were far more obscure one hit wonder/studio groups around in this decade. Blame disco! I think the 80s will be easier.

A little better with the 80s I'd presume, I've researched 1981 to 1987 with all the bands who had top 30 hits. However, I'll warn you now - there were so many synth records which effectively were studio productions with the occasional passing session singer. Stars on 45? The Tweets? Windjammer (an actual band) who I found no line up for? There still will be those ones waiting, and never mind that you are going for Top 75. So how do you decide who was on the record? The synth programmer and mixer? The minefield awaits, don't rush to get there. 1

There’s still a lot of people around from then to reach out to. I think the 50s and 60s are slipping out of memory for many involved in these hits. I can’t imagine there’s anyone I can get in touch with about The Stargazers for example.

Enjoy listing everybody on The Crowd's You'll Never Walk Alone. And an interminable amount of football singles (you are beginning to find these in the 1970s), from World Cups, European Cups, FA Cups.... And the Eurobeat stuff. Oh the spelling fun you will have! But I'll not put you off.
Ulitzer95 12,620 Posted May 20, 2020 Whilst we’re on that subject... if anyone has a sharper eye and a better knowledge of 70s footballers than me, I need help with some face recognition with this: There are 17 players pictured here, so I presume they all sang on the record. Above I’ve only managed to list the 12 who were on the team for the final itself. If anyone can give me the other 5 names it’d be greatly appreciated. YoungWillz 21,046 Posted May 20, 2020 Ok, so I said I wouldn't do any more. However... Aquarian Dream. According to the sleeve notes on Tough! by Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers released in 1966, Claude Bartee is referred to as being in his "late twenties" (so anywhere between 1937 and 1940 I guess) and a native of Detroit. https://www.amazon.com/Tough-PUCHO-LATIN-SOUL-BROTHERS/dp/B07T3TWYHJ. I've seen him referred to as sideman for Pucho and also Grant Green so it's the same guy. That's it.

Claude Peter Bartee, Jr. b. 12 Oct 1934, d. 05 Aug 1993. Born in and resided in Indianapolis, Indiana. This Nuvo article (GDPR blocked) and a discussion on this forum mentions he was from Indianapolis. That's good enough for me. Another one down
Ulitzer95 12,620 Posted May 21, 2020 Cracked reggae artist Richard Ace. He's 80 and living in Philadelphia, where he moved in 1981. Here's a clip of him performing I Got You Babe in 2005. Also added the correct lineup for the Atlantic Starr record. Two more down. Okay, I must go out and enjoy the sunshine for a bit!
