He wrote and produced several hit songs for Adam Faith and Sandie Shaw, amongst others, including Shaw's UK number one hit Long Live Love. As a solo artists, he had a number of UK chart entries in the mid-60s, his biggest being Yesterday Man, reaching number 3. This reached number 1 in Europe and elsewhere, establishing his popularity in Germany & Austria, (possibly owing to the similarity of the rhythm of his songs to that of 'Oom-pah' music!) as well as South Africa and Zimbabwe.
