    Patricia Neal

B 20-01-1926, almost died of a stroke in the mid sixties. Surely she can't last forever. Does anyone know what state she's in today?

    Sister Wendys' Odyssey

Heard the old nun on the radio this morning. Sounded OK, but... Born in 1930, history of poor health since the 1970's, series of heart attacks around 2000/2001, not to mention her relentless hedonistic lifestyle. Opinions?

    Hugo Chavez

According to this story, professional voice of reason Pat Robertson is calling for the Venezuelan President Hugo Sanchez to be assassinated. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9047102/ Judging by how the vote went in the last election there's a lot of Robertson's supporters in the red states that Bush won, so maybe W will bow to the demands of his constituents. Although given the CIA couldn't plant, I mean find, any WMD in Iraq I very much doubt their ability to carry out something as simple as offing a Latin American president. Or, maybe we should just nominate Robertson for '06.

    Art Linkletter

I'm going to open this topic about the old school TV professional Art Linkletter ("children say the funniest things") since he is a very popular pick on the Rotten.com site (about 1,400 picks of 44,000 entries) Since he is known more so on the other side of the pond to me, I've always imagined that its very unlikely that he will get the obit to qualify him within the DDP. I watched quite a bit of an interview he did with Larry King on CNN and can't quite work out why Art would be gaining this level of support whilst still being quite on top of almost full health and sound mine whilst suffering from the mildest alzheimer's and one bout of a minor heart refibulation corrective procedure. OK so he is 93, even Larry noted that Art looked so good he would likely make 100 years of age. And I too can believe that! So please anyone. Why is it that so many people find this nice old chap such an easy choice, that he gets quite this level of such high evidential support?

    Harry Reid

Not a real biggie but what the hey. I realize that for the British clientele of this most esteemable forum this person may seem to be small potatoes but Harry Reid the Democratic Minority Leader has had a mild stroke. Word is that he will survive and his fellow Democrats are using this health scare to launch their 2016 election platform (they like to plan ahead that way they have only the best candidates ) of course looking at photos of Senator Reid I would have thought him dead a long while back. Anywhoople the only link I could locate was through Voice of america, if it fails use the google engine okay? Harry Reid ready to say goodbye
  7. "Labour Party peer Lord Whaddon died in hospital from a stroke on Tuesday night, it has been reported" The 78-year-old former MP who had been suffering from ill health died in Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, his daughter Eve-Ann Prentice said.
  8. LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Matthew McGrory, the deep-voiced 7-foot-plus actor who moved from appearances on Howard Stern's radio show to a high-profile role as a gentle giant in the movie "Big Fish," has died. He was 32. very sad news

    Elvis Presley

The King died on his throne exactly 28 years ago. Bookmakers have revealed that wagers have all but dried up from fans betting that Elvis Presley is still alive. Over the years bookmakers William Hill have taken thousands of bets that Elvis will be found alive, but in the last year fans have stopped placing bets. Bookmakers have now lengthened the odds of Elvis being found alive from 100/1 to 1000/1. "The biggest odds we have ever given was a Elvis related bet, we offered 14 million to one that Elvis will crash land a UFO into Loch Ness hitting the monster," said bookmaker Rupert Adams. "It is perhaps the end of an era, where even his most ardent fans no longer believe that Elvis could have remained hidden for so long."

    Nigel Kneale & Judith Kerr

Watching The Quatermass Trilogy on DVD a while ago, I found out writer Nigel Kneale is still alive (b. 18th April 1922). Judging by the documentary features, he can't have long left. Bright and alert in footage shot in 1993, he looked old and frail on the other made in 2004. And to be honest, he doesn't seem to have done much writing for TV in the last 10 years.

    Studs Terkel

Oral historian......nowt to do with denistry, he's noted for a kind of participant observation journalism where he gathers stories from 'ordinary' people and turns out books that cast light on the workings of the world. If you're British think Ray Gosling....assuming you've ever heard of him. Anyway, Studs' latest collection - Hope Dies Last - is garnering justifiably great reviews. Maybe made a little kinder by the fact the man himself is 93.

    Edward Upward

Writer, hung around with the likes of Sir Stephen Spender and WH Auden. Never got their profile but he's just won an award......and he's 101.

    Peter Drucker

Peter F. Drucker, 95, world-renown economist and management consultant, is in frail health and appears to be slowing down. He would be a good suggestion for inclusion in the 2006 list.

    Constance Cummings

Constance Cummings. Who she? Well she is a veteran actress hailing from the silent era who worked in Hollywood and the UK. And she's the widow of the British playwrite Benn Levy. She definitely passes the famousness test. She is living in Chelsea and is an extremely frail 95. Some may recall my pleas to include Kay Walsh (widow of David Lean and George Formby leading lady). Regretably, this was pooh-poohed and she was left out. Nine months later, she popped off and was accompanied by dazzling broadsheet obits. Miss Cummings is a similar worthy. May I urge the committee to take this nomination with the seriousness it deserves?

    Lemmy From Motörhead

"Lemmy, a man who once survived a two-week amphetamine bender on just two fruit pies and some yoghurt, was hospitalised last week for dehydration and exhaustion. Lemmy's manager has been trying to get him to start a more healthy lifestyle so the European tour can continue. Lemmy has compromised... he's agreed to start adding ice cubes to his Jack Daniels. " I would like to suggest Lemmy as a possible death list candidate, I can't predict exactly how he will die, but he might spontaneously combust Discuss. DDT

    Ibrahim Ferrer

Ibrahim Ferrer , he of the little white cap who sang latterly in the Buena Vista Social Club, died at the weeekend. Got no news coverage because of Robin Cook dying.
  17. She's quadraplegic and she set off today to sail the channel single handed. Can you be 'handed' when nothing below the neck works? Anyway, it's brave to the point of suicidal since she's dependent on blowing through straws to steer herself. There's some damn big ships going up and down that sea lane, it'll be dark part of the time. Etc etc.

    Clive James

Watched Clive James being interviewed on "Enough Rope" (the only decent chat show on Australian telly) the other week. He gives himself another ten years. So pencil him in for 2015. You heard it here first...

    Kir5Ty Howard

The back-to-front hearted girl who befriended the Beckhams has made another recovery from the edge of death. But her shelf life is long-expired. We obviously have a problem with people who are famous largely through their terminal illness but we could always set up a thread a bit like a horse race for the likes of Kirsty and Jane Tomlinson allowing us to add commentry on the snippets of media coverage and their headlong sprint for that final finishing line. Whad'ya reckon?

    Sir Frank Williams

His wheezing of late has been more pronounced. Either he's making some underhand statement about the continued need for tobacco money in F1 or his remarkable resiliance in the face of neck-down paralysis is finally melting. I remember a medically minded friend commenting when quadraplegic Curtis Mayfield made his last album that it'd better be good cos there wouldn't be another. Would those with more medical knowledge than me care to comment on long term survival for those injured to this extent?
