Toast 16,144 Posted May 8 Forgive me for asking for help for a charity I support. Kabul Small Animal Rescue is an animal shelter and veterinary clinic in Kabul. It's run by a heroic American woman called Charlotte Maxwell-Jones. The account in Our Story very much downplays the hell that Charlotte went through during and after the NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan. They are desperately overcrowded - as you can imagine, it's impossible to rehome many of their cats and dogs locally - and they have organised an airlift to the USA at the beginning of June to send 200 dogs and 100 cats to new homes or shelters in the USA. They are still a long way short of raising the funds for this. All Paws Airlift Please, if you can spare anything, even if it's only the price of a cup of coffee - it all adds up. Donate here And share to anywhere and anyone you know that might prompt a few donations. Charlotte is very active on social media and regularly posts updates on animals and new arrivals.

Toast 16,144 Posted May 9 Thank you all! Some good news: Quote Thanks to generous anonymous donors, the next $40,000 in donations will be matched as donations come in. As we reach every thousand dollar mark, another thousand will be matched immediately. https://secure.givelively.org/donate/kabul-small-animal-rescue/ksar-all-paws-airlift-2024
Toast 16,144 Posted May 9 Two orphaned puppies who were recently rescued. They are with Terrance who is the official "puppy uncle". He's very patient. This was Terrance two years ago when he was brought in.
Khthonia 101 Posted May 10 I hope they extend it to the UK as well as we have room for adoption.
Toast 16,144 Posted May 10 2 minutes ago, Khthonia said: I hope they extend it to the UK as well as we have room for adoption. Sadly the current rules make it difficult to bring dogs into the UK from Afghanistan, because of rabies which is very common there. It's not impossible, but it's time-consuming and expensive. Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, then have a blood sample taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination. The blood sample must be sent to an EU-approved blood testing laboratory. The results of the blood test must show that the vaccination was successful (rabies antibody level of at least 0.5 IU/ml). You must wait 3 months from the date the blood sample was taken before you travel. So in practice you need to find somewhere to board or foster the dog for about 4 months in a listed country.

Toast 16,144 Posted May 20 Thank you so much. Up to $673,000 now which is marvellous considering there haven't been many large donations. All those little ones do stack up! Someone has promised a generous match when it reaches $680k. It's getting very near the deadline though, as everything has to be paid by this Friday. That's $775k Also - shout out to USA members! There are still 16 dogs still needing adoption or fostering places. Please contact Charlotte at KSAR if you know of any rescues or shelters in the USA who might have room for one of these dogs. KSAR dogs are not kennelled, they live together in groups, so needs to be a shelter with similar facilities. KSARairlift@gmail.com Or better still, permanent adoption.
Toast 16,144 Posted May 22 Pleased to say that all dogs have now been found a place, so they will all be able to go. This will create 300 vacancies at the Kabul rescue shelter, which are sorely needed! Let's not forget that Charlotte employs over 90 people - supporting a lot of Afghan families. Fund is now over $723,000 with one day left. I didn't think they were likely to get anywhere near, but it shows what can be achieved through networking and social media. https://secure.givelively.org/donate/kabul-small-animal-rescue/ksar-all-paws-airlift-2024 https://twitter.com/KSARshelter https://www.facebook.com/kabulsmallanimalrescue
Toast 16,144 Posted May 27 https://www.facebook.com/kabulsmallanimalrescue/videos/1641405823302675 This has not just been about rehoming 300 cats and dogs. It has ensured the survival of the rescue itself, which could not have continued to function without making space for more sick, injured or orphaned animals. Thank you for donating or sharing. What looked like an impossible target has been reached and exceeded.
Toast 16,144 Posted June 2 The journey has begun! The plane is bound for Katowice (Poland) where there will be a stop for rest and refuelling, before continuing to Washington DC. On arrival the cats and dogs will be checked into Pender Pet Retreat where all necessary formalities will be carried out, and they will have time to decompress and relax before travelling on to their new homes. This will be the first time many of them have seen grass! Flight number is IGA 412 for anyone who wants to track it. Wish Cat O'Falk was still here, he would have liked this. Landed safely in Washington Monday around 3 am local time.
