After the success of its first edition, the French Deathlist returns in 2025 with 50 new names who might pass away in the coming year. The 50 selected celebrities are French-speaking figures whose age or health condition seemed to warrant inclusion on our list. 25 of them have been carried over from last year, in line with the rules of the official Deathlist. The fame of the candidates cannot rely solely on their age or health condition. The first edition of our shared Deathlist was a real success, scoring 16 out of a possible 50 points, and we hope to do just as well this year. This list is the result of the common work of @BeretBleu, @etib80, @Fantomasss, @La Tombe, @thadee, @Bestparolanto and I. We will only post here in english and only on news concerning our 50 picks. Others news and discussion about french personalities will take place in the French Speaking Deathlist thread. Every time a hit occurs, we will post it here, cross their name off the list on the front page, and I'll make a quick recap of the deceased. We hope it'll be successful and that you'll enjoy it The official list will be unveiled on the eve of the 31st of december or on the morning of the 1st january. Thanks we took time to make 2025 be "un bon crû" ! Interesting the names but a lot of them are still very active Lionel Jospin and Pierre Richard, or not especially famous in France like Claudine Longet or André Oumansky. Yes and it will be probably 20 with Gabriel de Broglie too ! Traditionnaly, there is 1 or 2 deaths by year at French Academy, but the last was in 2023 with Hélène Carrère d'Encausse. In late 2023 his wife and friends opened a gofundme page to help raise money because he was supposedly broke and (of greater interest for our purpose) gravely ill. Former Minister of Education Claude Allègre passed away in the early hours of 2025, giving our list its first point of the year. Born in 1937 in Paris, Claude Allègre initially rose to prominence as a renowned geochemist. His work on continental drift and the evolution of the Earth earned him several prestigious accolades, such as the Crafoord Prize in 1987 and the CNRS Gold Medal in 1994, the highest scientific distinction in France. The following year, he was elected to the French Academy of Sciences. However, his fame also stemmed from his appointment as Minister of National Education, Research, and Technology by Lionel Jospin in 1997. His tenure at the ministry was marked by ambitious yet controversial reforms, driven by his intent to "trim the fat" of the national education system, which he famously likened to a "mammoth." After leaving the ministry, his climate-skeptical positions tarnished his reputation within the scientific community. He eventually left the Socialist Party and aligned himself with Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. In recent years, he had remained relatively discreet, and his inclusion on our list as one of our jokers was not unanimously approved.
