Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted June 9, 2004 It's research time again - and this news article came to my attention. http://www.star-ecentral.com/music/sleeve/...D&date=6/8/2004 Quite how famous the Metallica drummer is could be debatable - however we should check on his progress. Grim Reaper 186 Posted June 9, 2004 Lars is definately famous enough - his demise would be well reported should it occur - not too many clues given as to what the medical emergency is - "metal fatigue" perhaps ?
Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted June 9, 2004 Yup, Lars registers of my fameometer. From the band's perspective, having someone die is about the only item missing from their rock 'n roll Hall of Legends resumé. Oh, and a decent song or two. But that doesn't seem to have stopped the album sales to date.
Teddy 21 Posted June 9, 2004 Ronnie, Me wonders if you are showing some signs of memory loss there....taking you to a place where the rest of us can't go (©Nancy). Metallica already have a death in the resumé. Way back in 1986, they managed to roll their tour bus over the bass player, Cliff Burton. Brings a whole new meaning to the term Heavy Metal! Those hoping that they were following the advice of their first album 'Kill 'Em All' were sadly dispappointed at this solitary effort. But, looks like they may be about to pick up the album, pop it back on the turntable, and after a long hiatus, start again. Fingers crossed.
Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted June 9, 2004 Thanks for that Teddy. At this rate deathlist.net may soon surpass Google as the number 1 global information gathering resource, especially as ours often includes a smart ass comment or two. Guilty as charged on the lax research into the history of Metallica. What is it about rock stars being killed by their own tour buses? I seem to recall Randy Rhoads of Black Sabbath had a run in with his whilst buzzing it in a small plane, and came out the worse for it. Maybe Mr. Stats could conduct some research into which band will be spending the most time on the road next year, and we'll plump for the drummer or something for the '05 list. The Four Horsemen 26 Posted June 9, 2004 Also see Fairport Convention in 1967 and didn't Lynard Skynard die horribly in a plane crash?
Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted June 9, 2004 In 1990 Gloria Estefan tried to get off her tour bus via the windscreen resulting in a broken back - dangerous things tour buses - perhaps pop stars should fly! DWB
The Yeti 14 Posted June 9, 2004 In 1990 Gloria Estefan tried to get off her tour bus via the windscreen resulting in a broken back - dangerous things tour buses - perhaps pop stars should fly! I'm sure Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Glenn Miller & John Denver agree ! And for other past Rock Stars ... Stiff Little Fingers
The Yeti 14 Posted June 9, 2004 taking you to a place where the rest of us can't go (©Nancy) © JRR Tolkien, or near enough. which band will be spending the most time on the road next year Isn't that seemingly The Rolling Stones or The Who. And they're getting on a bit ...
Rude Kid 3 Posted June 9, 2004 And for other past Rock Stars ... Stiff Little Fingers Interesting list there. Whoever compiled it really doesn't like rock stars, do they? "They DIE in youth, and their life is among the unclean"?? Sheesh. I also like this quote: NOTE: This is EVERY death of a Rock star we've found. This is NOT a "RIGGED" list to produce FALSE numbers, but an HONEST observation. Er...apart from the fact that rock 'n' roll hasn't been around long enough for any of its stars to die of old age yet. Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted June 13, 2004 False Alarm! Lars was feeling a bit tired - not the biggest cause of death in the pop world I imagine! http://www.undercover.com.au/news/2004/jun..._metallica.html DWB
Guest me Posted July 21, 2004 actually cliff burton died, so they have had a death in their metal history
Guest joe Posted September 8, 2005 Cliff died in 1986, and Randy Rhoads was part of Ozzy's solo career, not of black sabbath. You really need to get your facts straight.
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted September 8, 2005 and didn't Lynard Skynard die horribly in a plane crash? Indeed they did - well 3 out 7 of them anyway. Their drummer survived the crash and set out from the wreck site - which was in a swamp and staggered for 3 miles to get help before stumbling out on to the highway and getting hit by a fire engine looking for the crash site causing serious injuries. PROS - The Cmme thought Metallica were famous enough for DL contention should the need arise. CONS - They'd never heard of Cliff Burton.
Charles De Gaulle 484 Posted December 28, 2020 I think we've found a contender for the longest time between thread being made about them to them actually dying. MacGowan and De Niro have threads started about then that are old enough to drive but MacGowan isn't going to live to 70 and De Niro is 20 years older than Ulrich. But you'd never know how things might turn out.

Vinegar Tits 606 Posted December 24, 2023 Probably deserves to be in the tennis thread tbh. One of Denmark's most famous tennis players and a prominent tour player back in the day.
