Guest wineguy Posted October 19, 2004 Have you ever worked in the wine business. Gallo is to selling wine as a goodfella is to a nice game of dice, for the Gallos' it is all about dominating the business. Ever wondered why you might look at a grocery store wine display and wonder why two complete shelves are Gallo? The Art of Domination!!!!!
Stayin Alive 26 Posted October 20, 2004 Personally, I would of preferred: Gallo is to selling wine as a goodfella is to a nice american-style pizza. But I don't want to pour over this one for much longer. Anyone for a nice glass of grenache?
Josco 49 Posted January 4, 2005 I understand that drinking a little red every day prolongs ones lifespan. Could this be the proof? Is Ernest on the list a little too early?
Guest deed54 Posted February 2, 2005 no not the wine, he has the best cardiologist taking care of him, Kanu Chatterjee at UCSF medical center, he donated millions to their cardiology center, hence it's named after him. I worked there.

Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted May 12, 2005 Interestingly, the Gallo company are also responsible for the legendary rot-gut Thunderbird Wine. This from www.bumwine.com "The history of Thunderbird is as interesting as the drunken effects the one experiences from the wine. When Prohibition ended, Ernest Gallo and his brothers Julio and Joe wanted to corner the young wine market. Earnest wanted the company to become "the Campbell Soup company of the wine industry" so he started selling Thunderbird in the ghettos around the country. Their radio adds featured a song that sang, "What's the word? / Thunderbird / How's it sold? / Good and cold / What's the jive? / Bird's alive / What's the price? / Thirty twice." It is said that Ernest once drove through a tough, inner city neighborhood and pulled over when he saw a bum. When Gallo rolled down his window and called out, "What's the word?" the immediate answer from the bum was, "Thunderbird."

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted November 27, 2005 Ernie's daddy murdered his mommy and then killed himself. Ernie is a bit of a bastard, his lawsuits against little people are a disgrace. Time to die Ernie, you greedy old vintner.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 27, 2005 Healthy bugger though, no doubt to the aforementioned cardiologist and the red wine: From 2002, and on the right.

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted March 18, 2006 Happy 97th birthday to Ernest Gallo today! Happy 97th Ernie, your wine may be overpriced piss, but what the hell. I'll stick to the cheap stuff that doesn't spend a fortune on marketing its brand.

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted March 18, 2006 I just noticed that Wikipedia listed him as dead here. Which one of you sly DLers slipped that in there to try and catch iain? Sorry, that was me couldn't help myself. I blame the drink, shame iain isn't about. I'm surprised Ernie hasn't got a Wiki page, but the Wiki is full of holes.
