If we can have football, cricket, ruggerbuggers and baseball (hell, even wrasslin') threads, I don't see why there shouldn't be a US football version. These guys are always doing drugs, shooting and raping people, organising dogfights etc, so there should be plenty of DL action for them. And we have our fair share of transatlantic members to consider, don't forget.

To get the ball rolling, today saw the college football equivalent of Carlisle (or summat) beating Man Utd, as tiny Appalachian State downed mighty Michigan in one of the biggest shocks ever. No-one died, though.

Go Pack, go Badgers!



Edit: on reflection, this is unfair on Carlisle. A more accurate example would be Man Utd losing to the bobbins robins of Altrincham.

Linebacker Bill 'Romo' Romanowski is on my CPDP theme team 'Nothing in Moderation', basically because he's sustained a whopping 20 (documented) concussions and because he's injected himself with a staggering amount of just about everything including the cells from Scottish sheep and a special steroid cocktail called 'the clear' because it could not be detected in tests.

Of course, he's written a book about it.

I saw a re-run of the 60 Minutes interview and noticed how his eyes kinda glazed over as he described the popping sound made by someone's finger when he broke it.

Didn't know that there was a thread for this. Anyhow, Kevin Everett, Buffalo Bills player, has sustained a life-threatening spinal cord injury. Not to mention, as we saw with Christopher Reeves, that paralytics are not conducive to long life, unless you're basically a robot like Stephen Hawkings.

 

Mike Utley, the other player that the make reference to, is supposedly doing fine.

Thanks for your polite observation, Lord. The fact of the matter is that "boring" is a word that usually goes with either a lack of understanding or having no dog in the fight (excuse me Mr. Vick). Many Americans consider your football (our soccer) to be boring merely because they really don't understand the finer points of the game. The same can be said for many who find baseball boring. American football is a lot of fun to watch if you know what you're looking at and have a rooting interest. The New England Patriots would be a good start for a rooting interest. If that doesn't appeal to you, there's always your local bookie and the point spread.

For the masters and the professionals it only matters when they fail, victory is just another colorful day. I have, in my youth, played both the American and British versions of Football ( the Brit one to a high standard) Softball

( which, excuse my ignorance, I assume to be loosely based on Baseball) and Rugby.

I can say, with a degree of understanding, that American Football is less interesting to Play and watch than Rugby and Rugby falls well behind "Soccer" on both counts, though not always.

Softball ( Baseball) is barely an adult sport, an opinion which will no doubt anger many but to temper this I will hold up Cricket as being bloody awful.
