As it says on the tin. I'll use this as a guide to how public opinion sees these two issues, or something like that anyway. ;) Ta ever so.

Is that the "Have your say, and they will completely ignore you" rule change idea?

I suppose its a bit naughty of me to comment, I dont really play, BUT its pretty obvious that picking old fossils or dead certs, excuse the pun, is hardly "sporting."

Go for more 20 somethings!

Fellatio Nelson you have clearly been under the wrong influences. Being twenty five, it's improbable that you are going to meet the standards most deadpoolers play for. It's that simple. I can see from your view point but this is more of a game that is based around production, rather then just a list filled with young reality TV stars who don't wear seat belts and who check into rehab routinely so they can get on page 2 in the big magazine. If that is how you would play it, that's a different game. I have nothing against that game, but the so called comparison 'in so many words' that you just made is like comparing 'chess and checkers' for example.

That may well be all true BS.

Look at it this way, what would be the more skillful pick, Britney Spears or Ernest Borgnine? One is living life recklessly, the other is very old indeed.

Had the hard drinking Lee Marvin been alive now and about 65 would he be a candidate? Probably.

Why, not because of his age but because his liver would, sooner rather than later give out.

Its not about comparing Chess with checkers its about picking people who you think will snuff it within the year.

Age isnt THE issue, lifestyle, medical history and sheer recklessness are equally important.

In view of the above, I see no reason why age is a primary reason for a pick.

Thats all.

Having read all this I'm now thinking I should have voted for Ban The Lot instead of for no set execution dates. Candidates on death row would actually be more appropriate for a Live Pool.

1 point if he manages to live through the year

2 extra points for an appeal

3 extra points if he is exonerated and released

4 extra points if he escapes

(With penalties of course if someone is murdered or tops themselves while in jail)

Hmm democratic approach from OoO. Impressive, your willingness to devote time and effort should maintain those high DDP standards. Is the day job suffering?

Though I love my new job, it's a relief to get away from it for a bit, as I've been forced to taking on far too much workload lately & that should ease - thankfully for this & everything else - next week. The "other" day job - the motor racing sideline - isn't affected either - it all fits in quite nicely bar a frenetic few weeks in January.

I'm still tweaking the e-mail account as it is playing up, so there's no time limit on this poll just yet - I must admit the results so far have surprised me, but the "great unwashed" :ghost: have spoken.

LFN, I will take the votes on board - I was going to have the final say if it was too tight to call, but thus far it's quite clear what options are favoured - 18 & ban them.

In metaphoric terms, of a president listening to the "peasants", I would like to think running this DP is somewhere in between a Drnovsek presidency & a Musharraf presidency. That is, unless the rabble rises up, when I will turn into Saddam. ;)

Anyway, seriously, thanks to you all again for your patience, co-operation & ideas, and all will be sorted soon.

This is a very good idea. I could have a field day playing this on Texas' Death Row. Have you copywrited it?

I changed my mind and voted with the majority.

The reason being that it levels the playing field by not giving an unfair disadvantage to those respectable folks who have some moral or other understandable objection to such picks.

Right, I think that's enough time now for everyone to have their say.

Rather than post-whore on both DDP 2008 threads, I'll post it in this thread.

  • Age Limit
  • Executions
  • 2008 Game

Age Limit

Well, it was far more conclusive than I thought, so fair dos - the minimum age limit will now be 18.

Executions

A tighter one to call this, but having pondered & thought about it all & going by the feedback on here.... executions will be banned.

Both of these new rules will be reviewed, but my mind was made up by looking at the current DDP scoreboard. Go Fish has picked 8 hits, none of them old fossils either, but still is way behind in 6th place - although you can't blame people by playing by the rules - and that was GF's choice, of course, you do wonder how the Top 20 would look without the Iraqi twins & Jozie.

2008 Game

I was just waiting on one last bit of software to come through. All being well, I should have some time tomorrow to update the entry form, change a few small bits & pieces & send out the 2008 Game Open e-mails. If time goes against me for whatever reason tomorrow, then stay tuned as it will be sooner rather than later that it will be Game on...

Finally, thanks for all your support & feedback & I hope that these new rules will not stop anyone joining in & enjoying the game!

Well done OoO. Canvassing opinion like this was a good idea. I welcome the changes. Banning executions will make the competition much more interesting and will still leave room for intelligent picks among those who like to dig around. The 18 minimum age limit was a no brainer as far as I was concerned.

Godot says it exactly right and I want to take this minute to thank Triple O for his liberal approach to the future rules of the DDP and his recent efforts to make the game more civil and competitive. It was back in October when I confirmed 'My Problem' with DDP and don't get me wrong 'I'm not trying to insult anybody' ..... (but talking leniency) Siegfried Baboon and Rude Kid resigned just in time. I mean I would have never expected the vast majority of members to be so generous towards the real fact of the matter and everybody has shocked me with their voting-contribution to the essential rules that should have existed since day one. Now the wall paper might still have the same scene but DDP has been revolutionized, with the age limit now eighteen and executions banned and the bar has been raised for unique selections making them worth three points a piece. I'm looking forward to DDP 2008 and I plan to own the standings by all means. I now say thank you to everybody, good luck, and let the raffles of the dead roll!

Hats off to OoO for bravely stepping in to the Kid and Baboons shoes. Whilst I may not agree wholeheardtedly with all the rule changes from a selfish point of view (I have very few morals left) I agree with the sentiments and thought behind them and will pick my team accordingly.

And come nowhere.

OK What happens if I pick, say, OJ Simpson and he commits a murder (hard to believe, I know), found guilty and sent to old sparky before the years out. Would I get the points?
