Quite a prominent name in folk/jazz. Interestingly it looks like she died by suicide.

Assisted Suicide to be precise, and it would have been nice to see that thread get some love.

If you ever need such “assistance”, do feel free to give me a shout.

Lou Donaldson (wiki), American alto saxophonist, died yesterday aged 98.

No obits yet but tributes galore on Facebook, including confirmation from Ronnie Scott's.

Edit: Obit

Lou Donaldson is a unique pick for my jazz DDP theme team. I mulled over picking him as I had doubts that he'd get a QO - he did release an album entitled 'Forgotten Man' after all!

I read about a new live recording of a John Coltrane concert  and wondered how many jazz musicians that played with Coltrane are still alive. Wikipedia gave me the names of Albert Heath (88, who played on his first album als a band leader)  Julius Priester  (88) and Reggie Workman (86). He played (once) with Sonny Rollins as well. But how many more are there?

Edit: Found some more: Kenny Burrell (91), Louis Hayes (86), Roy Haynes (98), Archie Shepp (86), Carlos Ward (83).

Heath died earlier this year, Haynes died this week: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/music/2024/nov/13/roy-haynes-obituary
