Lean was married 6 times & divorced 5, the second of each was to actress Kay Walsh (from 1940-49), who died 16 years ago today, exactly 14 years after ex-husband Lean, aged 93. time 8,618 Posted April 17, 2021 George Jennings, inventor of the flushing public toilet, died 139 years ago, aged 71. He;s responsible for the ornate underground toilets that used to be almost ubiquitous, but were closed down to save money/prevent cottaging. He's also responsible for the phrase 'spend a penny' becoming a euphemism for our toilet visits - he designed the toilets for The Great Exhibition in 1851, for which a charge of one penny was levied.
