MariNisia 4,245 Posted June 30, 2021 Lillian Hellman, American playwright, wrote a series of powerful, realistic plays that made her one of America's major dramatists, and motion-picture screenwriter, died of cardiac arrest in a hospital near her summer home on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts in the United States in North America on this date in 1984. She was 79 years old. Some of her best known plays were "The Children's Hour", "The Little Foxes" and "Toys in the Attic". Among the many honors she received were a Gold Medal from the Academy of Arts and Letters and two New York Drama Critics Circle Awards. MariNisia 4,245 Posted July 1, 2021 Walter Matthau, American actor who was known for his deep voice and razor-sharp comic timing, died of a heart attack in Los Angeles on this date in 2000. He was 79 years old. Best remembered by the public for his many roles opposite Jack Lemmon. Walter Matthau won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "The Fortune Cookie" (1966). On Broadway, Matthau received two Tony Awards for Best Actor for "A Shot in the Dark" and "The Odd Couple". He also won a Golden Globe Award and two British Academy Film Awards. He was 61 years old. Hemingway's grandfather, father, brother, sister and granddaughter all killed themselves. Many of his literary works are considered classics of American literature. Hemingway was renowned for novels like "The Sun Also Rises" (1926), "A Farewell to Arms" (1929), "To Have and Have Not" (1937), "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1940) or "The Old Man and the Sea" (1952). He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in 1954. Ernest Hemingway was buried in Idaho. His long-running TV comedy series "The Andy Griffith Show" established him as a television icon. He is also very known for his portrayal of a defense attorney in the dramatic series "Matlock". Born on the same date as Marilyn Monroe. Griffith had battled other health issues for years, including coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. White was undergoing dialysis treatment, but the combination of illnesses proved too much and he died at a West Hollywood hospital on this date in 2003. He was 58 years old. During the course of his long career in the music business, White earned an astounding 106 gold albums, 41 of which also attained platinum status, 20 gold platinum singles and 10 platinum singles, his musical talent had earned him more than one hundred million dollars in worldwide record sales. He was 63 years old. An admirer of the etchings of Menzel and Goya. His work had a deep influence on Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dali, Max Ernst or Edvard Munch. Symbolist prints and paintings by Max Klinger can be seen in the best art museums around the world. For his efforts, Klinger received a number of awards and honours. He was made a Knight of the Pour le Merite order, elected a full member of the Munich Academy and an honorary member of the Stockholm Academy. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was 69 years old. Eleven of his recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Armstrong was buried in Flushing Cemetery in Queens, New York, just a few miles away from his home in Corona. His grave is simple, engraved with nothing more than his name, Louis Armstrong and the nickname "Satchmo" in quotes. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was 71 years old. Conan Doyle wrote 60 stories featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal assistant Watson. Holmes was his most celebrated creation, a fact that was more irritating than pleasing to Doyle. In addition, Conan Doyle wrote a number of other novels, including "The Lost World". She was 88 years old. After her film career ended, Allyson became one of the first top film stars to have her own weekly television show, "The Dupont Show with June Allyson". As a good friend of President Reagan and the First Lady, June was appointed by President Reagan to the Federal Council On Aging in 1988.
