Drewsky1211 4,739 Posted April 9, 2023 DMX died on this day 2 years ago, aged 50. - DMX's real name was Earl Simmons, and he was born to teenage parents (18YO father and 19YO mother). His birthplace is disputed between either Baltimore, Maryland, or Mount Vernon, New York. - DMX had a rough childhood: he was constantly abused by his mother, and drank alcohol for the first time at the age of 7, and also went to jail at that age for stealing cakes at a supermarket. He was expelled from his school at the age of 10, and his mother put him in a children's home, which he once tried to burn down. - DMX would soon be sent to a group home, where he found a shared interest in hip hop music with other students. During this time, he got his stage name, after the Oberheim DMX drum machine- he also went by "Dark Man X". - His life would take a downturn again, often committing theft and carjacking. He would be in jail 30 times over the course of his life. - In 1991, DMX was signed to Ruffhouse Records, and would later sign on to Def Jam in 1998. - DMX's best selling album was 1999's ... And Then There Was X, known for its single "Party Up (Up in Here)", which was nominated for a Grammy in 2001. - In February of 2016, DMX was found unresponsive in a hotel parking lot, allegedly from an asthma attack. He was resuscitated using Narcan. - On April 2, 2021, DMX had a heart attack from a cocaine overdose, and would die from multiple organ failure a week later- he died on the same day as Prince Philip, though his death still received substantial media coverage. - My favorite song of his:

Drewsky1211 4,739 Posted April 11, 2023 Pope Donut Pope Donus died on this day 1345 years ago, aged 68. - Donus' life is largely shrouded in mystery, although it is known that his father's name was Maurice and that he was a native Roman (the city, not the empire). - Donus was elected pope in 676 following the death of Adeodatus II. He is currently the only pope to choose the name "Donus", but there was an accidental Donus II inserted in the official list (placed after Benedict VI) due to mistaking the title "domnus" with "Donus". - During his papacy, Donus remodeled several churches in Rome, and a schism between the Catholic Church and the Bishop of Ravenna was resolved. - Donus died after less than a year and a half as pope and was succeeded by Pope Agatho- who was allegedly 100 years old at the time (which was highly improbable considering the time period).
