DEATHRACE 2010: THE RULES

1 – The object of the Deathrace is to be the first contestant to reach 2010 points.

2 – To enter the Deathrace a contestant must have

A: A valid and current DDP team.

B: Status as a member of the Deathlist (i.e. be at least a Pointless Ranter and at most a Zombie)

Or…..successfully argue a case to MPFC for entry without the above.

3 – Entries are open until midnight on January 2nd. A team will be deemed to have entered when they post a full DDP team and the name of the team as displayed on the DDP on the Deathrace thread on the Deathlist.

4 – Entry into the Deathrace is restricted to a maximum of thirty teams.

5 – Players score points every time a team member dies and accrues an obit (see point 11). The score for each death amounts to 1 point for every complete calendar day of 2010 remaining after the death of said team member. So, a death on January 1st scores 364 points, a death on January 2nd scores 363 points etc.

6 – Jokers score double the normal points in point 4 above.

7 – The winner is the first player to reach or exceed 2010 points.

8 – In the event that a single death pushes more than one player beyond the victory score the winner will be deemed to be the player with the highest overall score.

9 – In the event that a single death pushes more than one player beyond the victory score and a tie remains between the winners, a sudden death play-off will ensue between all potential winners.

9a – The sudden death play off involves all possible winners waiting until one player scores another death of a team member. Said player will then be declared the winner. The sudden death play off will continue until a single clear winner emerges.

10 - For the purposes of the Deathrace the same rules about eligibility of team members apply as apply in the DDP, which is obvious anyway cos it’s almost exclusively DDP teams.

11 – ‘Obit’ in the context of the Deathrace means any report from a reliable news source in English. In this context the following are admissable: ‘Newspaper obits, national newspaper reports, local newspaper reports, coverage in trade journals or similar specialist publications. In all cases evidence online from these sources is sufficient to count for an ‘obit’ for scoring purposes. In the event of a debate about a ‘reliable news source’ MPFC’s decision is final. But he is very reasonable and quite likely to award points to the lowest hanging fruit.

12 – To qualify for points all team members must be alive on January 1st 2010.

13 – Any death between January 1st and the online commencement of the Deathrace will count for point-scoring purposes.

14 – If any team is found to have used Deathlist editing options to subtly change the line up of their squad instant disqualification without appeal will follow and MPFC will not be held responsible for any abuse heaped upon said cheat by other posters.

15 – The winner will receive a prize as follows:

A: Should the winner attend the next Dlcon MPFC will personally offer a single measure of an alcoholic drink of choice (beer/wine or spirit) along with much back patting and hearty congratulations.

B: If A is not possible MPFC will offer an item from his extensive collection of duplicate Carlisle United merchandise kindly donated by relatives who forget he already owns said books, scarves or pork pie hat.

C: If option B proves unattractive MPFC may be suggestible, via PMs, to offer summat more suitable.

Other General Stuff

The masterlist will be updated at least every ten days and a scoreboard will appear until such time as a winner is declared. Deathrace 2010 is exclusively a race to 2010 points, the conversion to a second competition based solely on the number of dead per team seen in 2009 will not be repeated.

As Neville Chamberlain stated: I have in my hand the piece of paper. Paul and his pubbing mates sank pints, deliberated and nominated......Michael Schumacher. Then again, they did snag that rabid woman in Ulster last year when the rest of us missed out.

Anyway who is Robert Hewlett? I've done a few searches and come back with a least 4 blokes!

And did they help you with the search? :evil2:

Whether the entrant or MPFC have put the wrong first name, I don't know, but it should be Raymond Hewlett, who might or might not know something about Maddy McCann. He's on my DDP team, I admit.

On the money as usual OoO, I was working from a hand-written list that whiffed a tad of beer. It is indeed RAYMOND Hewlett; Maddie-implicated paedo-scum. The presence of him and Schumacher on the list owe everything to the fact that those selecting the candidates wish the pair of them dead. Not sure how good a pick either is for early 2010 death.

You are very brave in putting your team forward at this time. I'm again wishing to have a go at your Deathrace and in time aim to post my DDP team in this window.

But for now may I add that your choice of Babcock won't win you many points in the DDP.

I've taken a better look at Mr Mason and his point don't do him justice. So I'm starting to re-assess giving a blanket set number of points for obesity and will note and reward due to size on a ratio of 26pts per 300lbs of mass in future.

Schumacher.... He's a not only a good driver, he's a great driver... I just can't see it. I've run his points and he gets 21.32 total. He age is a plus point and he's not ill. He's in a dangerous sport so that gets him 10points and broke a leg (1pt) a while back, and ricked his neck this year when he fell off a motor bike (3pts) I often give 1pt for car crash details but he's no Britney Spears behind the wheel.

Anyway who is Robert Hewlett? I've done a few searches and come back with a least 4 blokes! One person picked a Donald Hewlett last time. As for the Countess of Arran - she out there for sure!!!

Get a grip here peoples, first off this is Paul the Postie's list and it won't go to the DDP. He's the post guy where I work and also the reason for the arguing a case rule in the Deathrace rules. Him and his mates talk poorly celebs down the pub and he and I swap dead celeb notes as he peruses his copy of The Times over his morning coffee. His list is up because he isn't in work next week so his mates cooked it on Wednesday. I won't see him until January now. But this team won't see DDP action, unless someone else copies them name for name. So this team is solely there to compete in Deathrace. For all the concern above Paul did have a moment of 'my mates are better than your mates' with me last year because one of his mates had reasoned that the local press in Ulster might have let slip the name of the woman with rabies, and had her nominated and named on his team. Not summat the rest of us 'experts' considered. Since his team need only qualify for obits by Deathrace rules I'd say Mason is a good pick, Hewlett a questionable one and Schumacher probably more an indication of the pints sunk before scribbling. Is the Countess of Arran still alive? I haven't checked, but if she dies the local paper coverage would qualify for Deathrace points.

An interesting idea, Paul doesn't do online deadpools. But I'll get his number and ring him on Monday, I'm guessing he'd be up for it. We - sort of - clicked because Paul loves the lengthy obits on the famous and dead in the posh papers, something he used to get ribbed about when he worked as a real postman, I think.

This is a Deathrace team so Fiona, Countess of the Arran Islands, and Jack Babcock are DDP long shots, surely. Fiona's online write up here is coming up three years since an update. I think Paul's mob picked her because I was discussing the mentions on DL about peers who never turn up to the House of Lords. She's still alive, right? As for Babcock, he may get a fleeting BBC mention on a slow day.

I allow this Deathrace team because Paul and his mates don't take the whole thing too seriously anyway. Then again, if they finished well up in the DDP.........

I've had a PM on here and a Facebook message asking whether people need to post their teams on the thread and see all their picks get stolen. Please note the words from the first post on the thread:

So PM/Facebook me, or post the teams on this thread!

If you want it off the thread until we go live, just send it directly to me, I'm already compiling the masterlist. If you post the team on the thread, I'll add it to the masterlist here, but I'm going to update that list after we start, to include picks from the teams who didn't want to go public before New Years Day.

That clears up everything, right?

Reet, a reminder, entries are open until midnight - UK time - Saturday, we've currently got plenty space because only six teams have put up and shut up, leaving a maximum 24 more. If you're worried about me stealing your DDP picks, don't.....my DDP team is in and counted so any last minute details on Liz Dawn's lung deterioration are too late for me.

Go well

Very interesting list. I completely agree about Jean Marie Le pen, Liliane Bettencourt and Johnny Hallyday. But as I wrote in a previous thread, 2010 deaves can't match exactely 2010 deathlists.

Okay, entries closed, we're up and running. Masterlist, teams etc all in the right place on the opening posts. I've checked everything but if your team is in there you might want to double check your names and joker are all listed correctly.

We had us a winner on 2 Jan 2009, of course you need one more point to seal victory this year, will we get there as fast as we did a year ago?

Tension mounts, or summat.
