Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted July 28, 2012 With the shock sudden death of the beloved David Barby from Bargain Hunt, I thought it was time to devote a thread to that most British modern phenomenon, the celebrity auctioneer/antiques expert. (Yes, all of those seemingly endless UK antiques shows eventually end up on Aussie television, too.) With half the specialists on Roadshow being antiques themselves, who do you think the Reaper will bid for next?
Youwanticewiththat 611 Posted July 28, 2012 With all that high-kicking hilarity I think we can rule out Tim Wonnacut, unless testicular torsion has some impressive complications. Sad about David Barby, I'd notcied he'd appeared on a few episodes bruised from various trips 'n stumbles...

Octopus of Odstock 2,195 Posted July 28, 2012 I think if you widen this thread to antiques experts, or the Antiques Roadshow, then Bruce Parker and Henry Sandon (now 84) would be the most likely. I think because of the large amount of interest in antiques, a lot of the experts who have been on are likely to get obituaries in the mainstream and/or broadsheet press. Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted July 29, 2012 FWIW, my friends and I reached the following common consensus on the "chicks of Bargain Hunt" (yes, we are that sad): Anita Manning - most lovable personality. (Didn't know Scottish women were so much fun until she came on the tele. ) Pity she is so plain but she can so easily get by without looks. Probably the most cunning auctioneer, too, the way she plays the bidders. Pippa Deeley - best girlfriend material (she is rather sexy in a somewhat haughty kind-of-way. You could imagine her being the poster girl for the Olympics dressage team.) Elizabeth Talbot - best wife material. Catherine Southon - sweetest. Almost/sort of/borderline sexy.(EDIT: it seems others agree.) Kate Bliss - daftest. Seriously, that woman is bloody useless. Has she ever lead a team to victory yet? Even her expert bonus choices tend to regularly lose 80-90 quid.
Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted July 29, 2012 Pippa Deeley - best girlfriend material (she is strangely sexy in a rather haughty kind-of-way. You could imagine her being the poster girl for the Olympics dressage team.) It seems that others do indeed consider her to have a "Jolly Hockeysticks" personality. The comments about her permanently windswept hair are a bit cruel though - I think it adds to her sexiness.

Yes, definitely intended the thread to include the old boys on Antiques Roadshow and all those other myriad programmes like Flog It, Cash in the Attic, Secret Dealers, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Dickinson’s Real Deal and all the countless others.... Magere Hein 1,400 Posted July 30, 2012 Shouldn't the whole silly bunch be auctioned off as antiques, before bits fall off and ruin their value? regards, Hein 1

Everyone seems to be in consensus over which auctioneers are best, too.

It also seems a few of the female viewers are irritated by Catherine Southorn's propensity for draping herself over male contestants and indulging in mutual gropes. ITDY 20 Posted August 23, 2012 The head of Sotheby's has been accidentally shot in the face (but will survive). Well when shooting in the great outdoors there are a lot of noises and then there is the safety equipment like earplugs so perhaps his request of "Shoot on my face" was mis-heard by his buddy

Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted July 22, 2014 Bunny Campione said on an edition of Antiques Roadshow that her real first name was Anastasia. Uh? Free BMD Birth Entry - Carolyn Fisher Iain Grahame of Claverhouse (husband). At 68 or 69, I don't think she'll be troubling us for a good many years.
