If I am reading the list/descriptions correctly, that would mean there is only one veteran left from a country other than Spain (that being Italy).

Assuming we can add no more names, whether from not finding them or this group actually being the last living survivors, that is a significant event.

Well, actually I don't know if that italian is living or not, besides I know another names but those are limbo cases, except for Luis Torrás who is 109 years old.

Torras and Mateo Balbuena Iglesias are #2 and #3 on the Oldest Living Men in Spain list (#1 is a supercentenarian former mayor of a small town, all three slightly/very slightly famous)

There could be more, I think more names will occasionally pop up during the next few years. The list, now deleted from the original source, is from wikipedia and not complete, see Ulitzer's post from last page

Recent video on Luis Torras Martinez (Galician wiki), Spanish civil war vet and painter. He's 109, seems to have been deaf/nearly deaf since the war but in a pretty good condition for someone his age.

Luis Torras Martinez is 110 today. Here's an image from last week:

Apparently he still paints and must be locally pretty famous as he's had a Galician wiki since he was 95. His wife is "only" 99 or 100.

last week died Juan Azkarate at 100 https://www.elsaltodiario.com/euskal-herria/juan-azkarate-ultimo-superviviente-marina-guerra-auxiliar-euzkadi (in Spanish)

he was named as one of the last two survivors of the Basque Army (the other is Mateo Balbuena) according this https://www.deia.eus/historias-vascas/2023/06/05/miliciano-comunista-irreductible-109-anos-6890945.html (in Spanish)

so we can say Juan José Astobiza is certainly dead off radar...or somebody has something about him, cause I don´t

I believe this brings the total down to 13. It’s truly incredible how many of them are still around.

Actually there are news about 2 of them only (Juan Mariné and Miquel Morera), the others easily have could died off radar...

That is very interesting information. I sincerely hope not many of them have. As that will lead to an annoying and perennial conversation here as to whether or not they’re all dead and who was the last one.
