The controversy surrounding Corey Hill spurred me to open a topic.

UFC announced his death but the missus swears he's alive. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mma-cagewriter/corey-hill-s-wife-denies-ufc-report-that-her-husband-has-denied-022023494.html

Latest report indicates that he did in fact die this afternoon. Manager and another source confirm. http://mmajunkie.com/2015/05/ufc-veteran-corey-hill-dead-at-36-reports-manager

Wil Handford, UK cage fighter, dies of bowel cancer at 24:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3266204/Tragedy-super-fit-cage-fighter-dies-bowel-cancer-just-24-despite-best-shape-life-fell-ill.html

Basically terminal disease fame, or not even that, but with such a niche thread, it would be a shame not to post.

Edit: Actually a unique DDP hit!

Edit: Ok, it seems he had a little bit of local fame.

Yang Jian Bing was set to compete at ONE Championship 35 against Geje Eustaquio in a flyweight contest before that bout was cancelled on Thursday. ONE Championship noted via release following the weigh-ins that bout had been cancelled "due to Yang's severe dehydration from attempting to make weight. Yang Jian Bing has suffered from dehydration and suspected heat stroke. He has been transported to the hospital where he is undergoing intensive rehydration treatment."

The news took a turn for the worse on Friday when Bing, 21, ultimately died from the complications of his weight cut. ONE Championship released a statement following Bing's tragic passing:

Looks like he will make weight now.

I saw that, too, but wasn't exactly sure if it belongs here. (Now that I've looked at the sub-header, I know it did!). Anyway, dehydration and heat stroke... his weight was too high so he tried to sweat it out. I once saw a documentary about amateur boxers and their tricks, like stepping into the bathtub with a towel around your stomach and in a rubber suit, and then staying in there for six hours. You rapidly lose weight this way, but you also end up looking really, really sick. He obviously overdid it...

Manny Yarborough, from the glory days of MMA when it was a basic freak show, dead at 51.

Here he is fighting a guy who is 450 pounds lighter than him.

So with his passing who is the world's 'heaviest athlete'?

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway’s return to the octagon has been postponed again.

Holloway (19-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) has been hospitalized with concussion-like symptoms and won’t compete against Brian Ortega in Saturday’s UFC 226 co-main event, MMAjunkie verified following a report from ESPN.com.

Holloway’s management team released a statement to MMAjunkie with details:

“Max’s team and UFC staff noticed Max was not normal since late last week. This became obvious to many watching his interviews and public appearances the past few days.

“He was showing concussion-like symptoms before he even started his weight cut and was rushed to the ER on Monday where they admitted him overnight. Initial scans seemed okay, and he was released Tuesday afternoon, but symptoms still continued.

“Max fought with his team to continue with the fight. He showed some improvement over the next day but was still showing obvious symptoms. After open workouts, he crashed and was very hard to wake up. When he did, he had flashing vision and slurred speech.

“He is now back in the ER for further tests.”
