So, How's Your 2017 Shortlist Looking?

Recommended Posts

Right, just to put a name on these hints, in the disbelief anyone cared...

I was having the typical First World Deathlister issues.

Person A has cancer, but said they were undergoing more tests in November. No news.

Person B doesn't mention what type of cancer they actually have. So you know if you pick them, it's the Scott Thorson Stage I ass cancer, and if you don't, its metastatic pancreatic...

Not to mention the person who has taken a turn for the worse, but is a dubious obit, and the person who might bring forth the ranters and the "long dark nights of the soul", as TMIB once put it...

Person A - Fabienne St Louis. Treatment going well.
Person B - I forget now...someone dropped very early on.

Dubious obit - Sasha Lakovic

LDNotS - Dan1elle K3emp

The folk I've got left as potential uniques not mentioned on here are probably on other people's shortlists, I'd guess. The least well known of the four (though still a proper celeb, in my book) is keeping off radar but still had their health mentioned in a major QO within the last twelve months.

Also, one of my own tips is no longer on my short list as there's a whiff of fraud about them. This isn't the same person Gcreptile mentioned. I think both of them might still make the Drop 40 though.

1. Rayya Elias (hah)

2. Nabeel Qureshi
(Pretty sure Gcreptile meant Quincy Jones, who I dropped for the same reason)

including one who was mentioned on this forum...about a year/eighteen months ago, took a down turn over the summer, still breathing, hopefully forgotten by the rest of the forum. ;)

Paul Van Zandvliet

Oh yes, pancreatic and glioblastomas. One of my short list even has both!

Van Zandvliet with a degree of misdirection.

Nasty cancer? Check. Aiming to have it treated via a combination of homeopathy and God? Check.

No mentions of note, even in passing, in the DDP QOs, ever? Check. Reliant on a bored Guardian journalist and a slow news week in 2017? Check.

I've got my Delpech dilemma sorted for the next eleven days then.

Alphonse Mouzon.

Not properly researching this year will probably see me finish way down the league next year, but I did find a nice potential 24 point joker. And he's not even a cancer dad either...

Complete misdirection - Gord Downie, if a Drop 40er, will be a 24 point joker.

The second last spot. I named the person to my wife, and said "they're not likely to get a qualifying obit, are they? I mean in The Guardian or Daily Mail or the likes." Her reply was "Duh, of course (they) are. I've heard of them!"

So I put them in the team, on the better half's advice.

The non-musician who might die next year (well, this year now...) I talked about is Wayne Barrett. That's the only cryptic post I can remember making.

The one I mentioned w/r/t being a pick I didn't think would obit but just seemed like such a me pick was Vinny Vella, an actor who had minor roles in Casino and The Sopranos and has stage-four liver cancer.

That's who I suspected it was, back then. I saw the GoFundMe too and thought "Sopranos actor? Surely one for DQSP". Only after that I looked into his actual Sopranos character and it was one so minor that even on a slow news day, he'd need considerable luck to get in the Mirror or Mail.
