Weebl 216 Posted April 17, 2017 Anyone else watch the grand final last night? Here it is on iPlayer - if you've got a spare hour today and you're even remotely interested in metal machines smashing each other up you won't want to miss this... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08n8t6h That Carbide is an absolute beast of a machine - known for its infamous "death hum". Hmm, that seems appropriate on this forum. Some people think Robot Wars is just for kids but these machines are more than powerful enough to kill a human being and some of them can even rip through bulletproof material. New series is being filmed in Glasgow next month.

Garrod wasn't just a competitor in Robot Wars - he also designed the miniature car from the classic '90s kids TV show Brum. If you're of a similar age to myself you're likely to remember that one.

Didn't realise he created Noo Noo. Anyway, some sad news about Rex. He's still alive but according to rumours going about on various forums he's suffering from dementia: http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/threads/13393-rex-garrod?p=465520 He's also Wiki-notable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_Garrod
Sean 6,343 Posted May 1, 2017 I was aware of his condition but didn't want to say as I know it was not public knowledge for some time and the family wanted it that way.His daughter has mentioned it also in his FB appreciation page.Very sad to me on a personal level. He was something of a local hero when I was younger!A very genial kind and funny man.A gentleman to boot also.A rare combination these days.
Weebl 216 Posted May 16, 2017 I was actually at the filming of Robot Wars on Sunday and I'm going again tomorrow. First time I've ever been to the filming of a TV show. Saw Dara O'Brien and Angela Scanlon as well as some of the more famous robots and their teams, was good fun.

Not sure about Dara, but I am sure that a convincing and realistic robotic Angela would be like the #1 selling sex doll in the world if such a thing was ever created

Weebl 216 Posted April 9, 2019 Beat me to it. Truly a legend and a pioneer. Sad day. You would think given that he created Brum as well as appeared on Robot Wars, the BBC at least would give an obituary. There have only been unofficial reports so far. You would seeing as Robot Wars Brummie and teletubbies are all iconic shows.I am not surprised though as the BBC is shite. I am surprised the tabloids haven't picked it up.I do hope he obits. He deserves to. His daughter announced it on Facebook.Definitely true.
