Films with entirely dead casts

Recommended Posts

@diego could you please stop, this could be one of the most interesting threads on the sight and yet it isn't because it has been filled with hundreds of links to IMDb for films most people have never heard of and unknown actors with very few credits. If you don't know if a film has 'an entirely dead cast' don't post it here, it isn't useful to list numerous films and actors (who may or may not be alive) multiple times a month.

Yes look at all the links to the films where the late centenarian actress  Micheline Presle played....There are too many.

With this thread I empathise with parents whose son turned out to be a nonce. Having all that hope when it started and those great moments in the early years, and then....

I quite enjoy this thread. But I do see the point you're making. Thinking it through, every film ever made will be eligible eventually so we're setting ourself one heck of an admin job. For example, the cast of this might be the first entire cast of a film to all be dead.

[Actual 4K Scan] The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station - Lumière Brothers - 1896. (youtube.com)

I can't track down dates of birth/death but the cast is

  1. Marcel Koehler

    Self

  2. Mrs. Auguste Lumière
  3.
  4.

    Rose Lumière

    Self

  5.

    Suzanne Lumière

    Self

    All presumably 'mort'/

And the behind the camera talent is

    Directing/Producing

    Auguste Lumière

    Auguste Lumière (died 1954)

    Louis Lumière

    Louis Lumière (died 1948)

Which leads to the logical question: What is the second film ever made where we can say with confidence/prove that the entire cast is now dead?

And that's beforen we even get into the question of whether the above and this ( Roundhay Garden Scene (1888) (youtube.com)) from a few years earlier count as "films".

They were publicly shown, people paid to see them, so I guess they do.

Does anyone watch Talking Pictures TV? They show a lot of old movies and TV shows. This is their schedule for tonight. I've pondered going through some to see what casts are still alive.

Sky - 343

Freeview - 82

Only downside is the only bloody adverts they show are for planning your funeral.

Really enjoyed coming across the 1961 British Rail faux-documentary/advertorial Terminus directed by a young John Schlesinger on there the other night. On the other hand, that show where Mike Read and the guy who runs the station do what amounts to a "chatting with DA LADZ" podcast but for people born during Neville Chamberlain's premiership might be the worst thing on TV.
